NEW DOG PARK

The Town of Greenburgh will dedicate our new dog park on Sunday, October 5th at 2 PM at Rumbrook Park (off of Dobbs Ferry Road—across from the old Frank’s Nursery). This is an exciting accomplishment. Dog owners have been pressing for a dog park for many years.
I had the opportunity to visit the dog park (in the final stages of construction) earlier this week. The park is awesome! There is a section for small dogs and bigger dogs. There is a trail dogs will enjoy. The park is surrounded by beautiful views of the woods – an incredible scenic setting for a dog park! We also plan to install some benches at the park so people can enjoy the park while their dogs are having fun.
We are looking for volunteers to help us raise funds for the dog park. We will be setting up a town account. All donations (made out to Town of Greenburgh) will be used to enhance the park. If you are interested in making a donation – please advise pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

  1. So you have another dog park, isn't that great.
How much insurance do you carry to cover just in case there is an accident.
Will you put up a sign at Hartsbook Park that no dogs will be allowed especially of the leash.
How much extra will this cost the taxpayers?????????

  2. Super! I'll feel right at home at the new dog park as I'll soon be eating dog food because I'll be too poor from paying taxes.

  3. Paul this is another one of your gimmicks. I noticed the date posted is September 25th and I wonder with the approaching Nor Easter about to hit us where is the long awaited East Hartsdale Avenue flood study promissed to us by Yesterday and no posting as of yet. Is there a cover up here? You shoud be ashamed of yourself for not posting important Info that you had dated from the Past.

  4. Why is fundraising needed? What enhancements are needed for a dog park?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Private fundraising is better than charging taxpayers. Feiner is doing the right thing. Don't complain about EVERYTHING!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Paul since Valerie Whitehead didn't work out at TDYCC why dont you make her commissioner of the Dog Parks. No administrative skills are necessary and she can hire the "felons" to work with the dogs instead of our kids.

  7. How many dog parks are needed in Greenburgh????
People take their dogs to Ridge State park on ridge rd.
Hartsbrook is a free for all leashed and unleashed dogs running all over the place even on the private property .
Now we have another park at Rumbrook.
You say that you are trying to cut corners to save us some money. WHERE>
The dogs are more important to you than the residents.
Paul It is time for you to step down while you still have some friends that maybe would give you a job.
You have ruined Greenburgh and you will not stop until the residents take legal action .
If you don't want the job step down but by you spending taxpayers dollars as foolish as you have been doing is a crime.
There are many qualified people to run for the position.
You can run for dog warden since you come up with all these ideas to please the dogs.
A swim day at the local pool and now a new dog park.
How about becoming a dog walker.

  8. There is only one dog park in Greenburgh-- it will be at Rumbrook Park. Ridge park is a county park. Dogs are prohibited from running without leashes.

  9. I feel this is such a misappropriation of funds. What a disgrace to society. I cant believe the town is more concerned about getting donations for a DOG PARK while on the same town website they have a WAITING LIST for MEALS ON WHEELS. i'm sure those senior citizens will be happy to know that they can't get any food because people in the town of greenburgh are too concerned with the physical activity of their dogs. I hope Mr. Feiner doesn't have eldly parents and if he does i hope THEY have food on their table. i have a dog and love her very much. i also have an elderly mother (82 years old) who continues to buy only what she can afford because she has to live on a fixed budget. The town shoud do away with their waiting list for meals on wheels give those people some FOOD!!!!!!

  10. 1:11 when was the last time you visited the county park or Hartsbrook park.
Take a good walk and then return to the blog to give your report.

  11. I don't know why you keep bring up ridge rd park im there quite often and find dogs there on a continual bases more so on the week ends

  12. There are many aspects to having a great town. A dog park will make many people happy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am shaking my head. So much negativity. You negative people don't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  14. In these uncertin times I find it hard to beleive that any town will spend tax payers monies to build or maintane a park for dogs. Is this park open to town residence only ? and how will you ensure that all these dogs have their shots up to date. May be we can charge the owners of the dogs a annual fee to use this park. It might recoup some of the monies that the tax payers are force to support. Again a worthless use of tax payer money.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Everyone I know takes their dog to Ridge Rd park where there is an area that owners unleash thier pooches & let them roam free.
This has been a happening for years.

Does anyone think this "group" will be heading up to Rumbrook now? I doubt it. Wast of money again.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Most of my friends are excited about the dog park.
Most of my friends think that some of your comments against the park show that you're out of touch with the community.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Don't any of you get it yet?

    This is another Feiner initiative.

This is the Town Board's answer to rising costs: Greenburgh's future is in the yet untapped fossil fuel, dog poop.

Something that is right up Allegra Dengler's alley.

Start the Town budget countdown on October 5 when Feiner squeezes out his newest Greenburgh energy saving program: "Collecting poop in the Park".

Perhaps the Xposure kids could get paid internships (money to go toward building their stock portfolio) by helping collect this vegetable oil alternative (remember how long that lasted) and they could bring their harvest to Town Hall where they could replenish what the Town Board has already distributed on neighborhood walks.

So next time you feel frustrated by the Supervisor, be kind; remember what he's really doing is contributing to Greenburgh's renewable energy program.

  18. Hal: You're a nice guy but out of touch. You get your entertainment by attending Town Board meetings. We get our entertainment walking dogs and enjoying our parks.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dear 6:35 maybe you should start waking up early to see how many cars turn into the park early in the morning seven days a week.
My friends donot live in the area but are there every other day having coffee with other dog lovers.
You can rest assured that they will not go to the new park to have their dogs run arround since they have been using this place for many years .

    ReplyDelete
  20. I too take my dogs to Ridge Park for a good run. I also enjoy the company of the other animal lovers.
Not only do the dogs enjoy themselves but we too have much to talk about since we have become park friends for a number of years.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dear 9:11
Bet you are wrong! Try it. You'll like it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "There are many aspects to having a great town."

Absolutely, though not at the expense of neglecting basic municipal services, the primary purpose of a township.

I'd welcome a dozen town-sponsored dog parks if I felt that baseline municipal services such as budget management and roadway cleaning were professionally supervised.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Serious question: Does someone know what the official rationale was for creating a third dog park in the town? Ridge Road and Harts Brook are centrally located and accessible to all, so I don't understand why a third dog park was needed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The third dog park is a Feiner response to the support he's received from PETA. You may view it as a political payoff - jsut like any other.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am not a member of PETA and wanted the dog park.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dear 9/27 3:23 PM,

Let me personally assure you the budget and expenditures are being PROFESSIONALLY supervised. The policy decisions may not be so professional.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree. The supervisor and council are working hard to professionally supervise all expenditures. That is why the town is well regarded.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am a member of PETA, and I want weed-free roadways and unclogged sewer grates.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Greenburgh is a nice town to live in. I have few complaints. No one is perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Paul does not allow the town workers to spray weed killing chemicals. Not the "green" thing to do.

What's so frustrating is that they don't whack the weeds either. Awful.

Paul runs this town with his own vision in mind and not the vision of the people of the town.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wonder if they use chemicals on his Bolder Ridge lawn? I'll bet they do and I'll bet he's never suggested that they shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I stopped by to look at dog park today. It's very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The county cops stopped my friends when they brought their dogs to the park at Ridge Park. Glad that the town will have a legal dog park.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm also glad we will have a legal park. You get harassed at both Hartsbrook and Ridge if you let your dog off the leash.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Paul has a vision for the Town (no zoning protections) and a vision for himself -- living in gated communtiy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes, Paul does have a vision for Greenburgh and we should all embrace it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw the new dog park today it looked good, and well designed, but I have a feeling that most of the monies allocated to the "dog park" went towards revamping the asphalt of Rumbrook Park. Mabe that is what the huge push was the dog park!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I took a look at the dog park this morning. Very attractive. Good investment. Will be enjoyed by the community.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agree with anon 11:47. Most of the expenses seemed to be spent on non dog park related park improvements. Predict that dog park will be popular.

    ReplyDelete
  40. How many times was the asphalt revamped in this park.
The taxpayers could not be told that it was needed again so wasn't it convient to build a dog park so the work could be done again.
There are so many ways to skin a cat and believe me these commissioners are finding every way to screw the public.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Paul's vision could be improved if he chose to remove weeds and debris right in front of his face (and ours).

    ReplyDelete
  42. How sad that a discussion of a dog park draws more interest than the fact our Town taxes will double over a 3 year period.
Even sadder that the Supervisor actively encourages ignorance of, and deceit about, the Town's true fiscal condition.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Where have you been? Francis Sheehan, Paul Feiner, Sonja Brown, Kevin Morgan & Diana Juettner stopped by at my neighbors house this summer and spoke to us about the fiscal problems. We discussed with the Town Board members our views. Paul is liked because he has kept us informed.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't always agree with Paul. The dog park is a nice amenity to have in town.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "The dog park is a nice amenity to have in town." Though we already have two others. Hopefully cancellation of that science program will balance out this dog park expense.

  48. There has been a phrase coined on another global message board (thousands of participants)I participate in called "drowning puppy, baby lake"

It is derived from numerous polls where the question is asked, in variations, "if your puppy/dog/cat and an unknown child where drowning, burning, in a burning house...(fill in the blank) and you could only save one, which would it be?"

Time and time again sadly, the predominate answer is the pet.

    Shocking?

The phrase "drowning puppy, baby lake" has come to mean that many treat thier pets better than children personally unknown to them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. So each dog park needs a supervisor.
You have got to be kidding.
This town has truely gone to the dogs.

  50. COMPARING THE PAUL OF 1992 TO THE ONE OF 2008

1992: There should be term limits.
2008: Except for me of course.
1992: Criticizes Tony Veteran for the use of cars for town employees.
2008: The Greenburgh fleet has expanded to 22 vehicles, all of which go home at night.
1992: I promise to follow up, and actually did at that time.
2008: Could someone explain to me what follow-up means?
    1992: Kept his word.
2008: Put it this way, if you put a poly-graph near him, it would never shut down.
1992: Let’s have citizen committees for many different aspects that improve life in Greenburgh.
    2008: What’s a committee?
1992: You could call him at home.
2008: Please deposit 75 cents for the first minute.
1992: If this blog existed, it would be full of praise, support, and promise for a bright future.
2008: 90% of the postings here are complaints because of inconsistent following of the rules, favoritism, citizens not being treated fairly, staff morale non-existent, and Paul’s reputation has denigrated to your stereo-typical negative politician. Anything to get reelected, anything to avoid confrontation, and talking on both sides of his mouth. Many of us who live in the town don’t really want to talk to you Paul, because we have no faith in your word which is meaningless.

HOW DO WE GET THE GUY FROM 1992 BACK?
WE ALL LIKED HIM MUCH BETTER THAN THIS 2008 EDITION.

  51. How much insurance does the town carry for the dog parks???????

    ReplyDelete
  52. January 2008 - Hopeton White & William Bland contracts not renewed.

Feiner - A new direction for the Community Center - appoints Valerie Whitehead (no education, experience secretary) Community out rage follows

Now the V.Whitehead appointment (7 months later) has come home to roost - An Investigation for "thief of service" paying no show nephews/felons at CC for jobs they never showed to work.

Paul - What's the new direction now?-prosecute your appointment VW-
Leave the management of Town departments to the educated recreational and parks professionals. The TOG will be a better place.
Anonymous due to necessity-being vendictive is Paul nature along with being saddistic- oops I finally figured out Paul

  53. I agree it does look like all the money went to renovations of the parking lot rather than the dog park.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I inspected the park last week and again today..Very well though out,but I suggest placing a gate at the bottom, and top of the path that leads into the lower dog park area..This is necessary as many people may not accompany their dog to that area and will sit at or near entrance and not supervise or clean up after dog.It would also give much more control oover the area.
Also very badly needed a quick exit at the lower play area so that an aggressive animal can be quickly removed from the area without having to traverse to the top of the hill, through another play area where other dogs may be..Can be very dangerous the way it is now. There is a gate there now but it is locked by parks dept personnel. One excited ,aggressive dog can excite all the other dogs in the area and this would result in multiple fights between animals. Its all about pack mentality ,which is very strong in all breeds of dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. How much insurance does the town have to cover these dog parks.
I do hope that you have enough just in case there is a good law suit concerning the dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  56. wha ever happened to the skate board park over there?

    ReplyDelete
  57. to the poster "woof woof"-- to my knowledge the monies to create the park came from a ny state grant of $43,000.Local greemburgh/westchester tax money was not invloved..Even if it was from local tax base it would most likely come out to maybe .25 cents per resident or less...if spending .25 cents causes you to eat dog food you have many more problems than getting poor paying taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It is your understanding that the money was a grant.
Up until a few weeks ago I thought the same but when someone wrote here on the blog that each grant that is received we the tax payers have to match.
That is the silent way of taxing the public.
One way or another we have to pay.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If a grant is received and not used by a set date it has to be returned to state.
So even if the taxpayer covers the entire cost of the park..it comes out to maybe something like .25-.50 cents per resident,if that much..its about the quality of life here in Greenburgh.A dog park makes it a better place to live for all.Don't own a dog, thats cool.Just go the park one day and see the joy of life that it brings to the dogs and owners that use it,it just may make you feel the joy of life too.

  60. keep the dog park, get rid of the GC7 school district!
Nobody with half a brain sends there children there anyway.

  61. 12:46 = "drowning puppy, baby lake"

    ReplyDelete
  62. To 11:41AM on 10/6 -
Do not buy into the politicians' wet dream that a grant from the state or federal government doesn't cost you a dime.
Who do you think pays the taxes to the state and federal governments which get disbursed as grants? You do!
This area pays far, far more in taxes to the state and federal governments than it receives back in services and grants. Do you really believe that some magnimous government somewhere just sends along money it has lying around doing nothing so that Greenburgh can have a dog park? If so, may I please send you my children's lists for Santa Claus because you obviously know where to go with them.
Taxter Ridge cost taxpayers in Greenburgh the whole $10 or $12 million - unless you have a magical purse which pays the Town, the State and the Federal government from different sources, YOU paid for all of it.
    TANSTAAFL!

    ReplyDelete
  63. At the park today! It is Great! More benches would be nice though.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The Community Center has been crippled by the Town Supervisor and Board members.

For all the TDYCC critics - stop in and visit the place. The diversity, the programs are what happening at the center, it's a great place!!

Merging the department services of P& R and TDYCC maybe one answer, but it will keep Gerry, Joe and James from playing golf everyday.

The Parks and Recreation department is a joke too!

Programs operate three months out of the year - Nothing done during the months of October to March. Oh Halloween. Cut a few lawns, one senior program, one special needs program - Separtism was created because we (caucasion) did not want to mingle.
Racism is rampant in Greenburgh -perpetualed by town board members, motivated by being re-elected.

Let's raise fees of non-residents who use our facilities at rock bottom prices, structure the programs at the Center/P&R to be self sufficient and stop doing favors for people who are supposed to pay fees.

Get it right Paul and Board members; Nov 2009, 2010 will be here before you know it - Then it's over!! smile Greenburgh taxpayers
