The Town of Greenburgh will dedicate our new dog park on Sunday, October 5th at 2 PM at Rumbrook Park (off of Dobbs Ferry Road—across from the old Frank’s Nursery). This is an exciting accomplishment. Dog owners have been pressing for a dog park for many years.
I had the opportunity to visit the dog park (in the final stages of construction) earlier this week. The park is awesome! There is a section for small dogs and bigger dogs. There is a trail dogs will enjoy. The park is surrounded by beautiful views of the woods – an incredible scenic setting for a dog park! We also plan to install some benches at the park so people can enjoy the park while their dogs are having fun.
We are looking for volunteers to help us raise funds for the dog park. We will be setting up a town account. All donations (made out to Town of Greenburgh) will be used to enhance the park. If you are interested in making a donation – please advise pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

I noticed the date posted is September 25th and I wonder with the approaching Nor Easter about to hit us where is the long awaited East Hartsdale Avenue flood study promissed to us by Yesterday and no posting as of yet. Hartsbrook is a free for all leashed and unleashed dogs running all over the place even on the private property .
Now we have another park at Rumbrook.
You say that you are trying to cut corners to save us some money. WHERE>
The dogs are more important to you than the residents.
Paul It is time for you to step down while you still have some friends that maybe would give you a job.
You have ruined Greenburgh and you will not stop until the residents take legal action .
If you don't want the job step down but by you spending taxpayers dollars as foolish as you have been doing is a crime.
There are many qualified people to run for the position.
You can run for dog warden since you come up with all these ideas to please the dogs.
A swim day at the local pool and now a new dog park.
How about becoming a dog walker.
There is only one dog park in Greenburgh-- it will be at Rumbrook Park. Ridge park is a county park. Dogs are prohibited from running without leashes.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is such a misappropriation of funds. What a disgrace to society. I cant believe the town is more concerned about getting donations for a DOG PARK while on the same town website they have a WAITING LIST for MEALS ON WHEELS. i'm sure those senior citizens will be happy to know that they can't get any food because people in the town of greenburgh are too concerned with the physical activity of their dogs. I hope Mr. Feiner doesn't have eldly parents and if he does i hope THEY have food on their table. i have a dog and love her very much. i also have an elderly mother (82 years old) who continues to buy only what she can afford because she has to live on a fixed budget. The town shoud do away with their waiting list for meals on wheels give those people some FOOD!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteIn these uncertin times I find it hard to beleive that any town will spend tax payers monies to build or maintane a park for dogs. Is this park open to town residence only ? and how will you ensure that all these dogs have their shots up to date. May be we can charge the owners of the dogs a annual fee to use this park. It might recoup some of the monies that the tax payers are force to support. Again a worthless use of tax payer money.

This is the Town Board's answer to rising costs: Greenburgh's future is in the yet untapped fossil fuel, dog poop.
Something that is right up Allegra Dengler's alley.
Start the Town budget countdown on October 5 when Feiner squeezes out his newest Greenburgh energy saving program: "Collecting poop in the Park".
Perhaps the Xposure kids could get paid internships (money to go toward building their stock portfolio) by helping collect this vegetable oil alternative (remember how long that lasted) and they could bring their harvest to Town Hall where they could replenish what the Town Board has already distributed on neighborhood walks.
So next time you feel frustrated by the Supervisor, be kind; remember what he's really doing is contributing to Greenburgh's renewable energy program.

You can rest assured that they will not go to the new park to have their dogs run arround since they have been using this place for many years .
I too take my dogs to Ridge Park for a good run. I also enjoy the company of the other animal lovers.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, though not at the expense of neglecting basic municipal services, the primary purpose of a township.
I'd welcome a dozen town-sponsored dog parks if I felt that baseline municipal services such as budget management and roadway cleaning were professionally supervised.
Serious question: Does someone know what the official rationale was for creating a third dog park in the town? Ridge Road and Harts Brook are centrally located and accessible to all, so I don't understand why a third dog park was needed.

ReplyDeleteI saw the new dog park today it looked good, and well designed, but I have a feeling that most of the monies allocated to the "dog park" went towards revamping the asphalt of Rumbrook Park. Mabe that is what the huge push was the dog park!

There are so many ways to skin a cat and believe me these commissioners are finding every way to screw the public.

Where have you been? Francis Sheehan, Paul Feiner, Sonja Brown, Kevin Morgan & Diana Juettner stopped by at my neighbors house this summer and spoke to us about the fiscal problems. We discussed with the Town Board members our views. Paul is liked because he has kept us informed.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, responsible for the administration and organization of recreational services, activities and programs for a major segment(s) of the Town’s total recreation program and do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
· Plans, develops, implements and promotes a specialized activity phase of recreation on a community-wide basis.
· Administers a major segment/facility of the municipal recreation program.
· Administers a major segment/facility of the municipal recreation program.
· Plans, organizes, promotes and directs specific recreation activities and specific events.
· Assists in the administration and organization of the total comprehensive recreation program.
· Supervises trains and evaluates subordinate staff personnel.

ReplyDeleteIt is derived from numerous polls where the question is asked, in variations, "if your puppy/dog/cat and an unknown child where drowning, burning, in a burning house...(fill in the blank) and you could only save one, which would it be?"
Time and time again sadly, the predominate answer is the pet.
Shocking?
The phrase "drowning puppy, baby lake" has come to mean that many treat thier pets better than children personally unknown to them.
So each dog park needs a supervisor.

I agree it does look like all the money went to renovations of the parking lot rather than the dog park.
ReplyDeleteI inspected the park last week and again today..Very well though out,but I suggest placing a gate at the bottom, and top of the path that leads into the lower dog park area..This is necessary as many people may not accompany their dog to that area and will sit at or near entrance and not supervise or clean up after dog.It would also give much more control oover the area.
ReplyDeleteAlso very badly needed a quick exit at the lower play area so that an aggressive animal can be quickly removed from the area without having to traverse to the top of the hill,through another play area where other dogs may be..Can be very dangerous the way it is now.There is a gate there now but it is locked by parks dept personnel.One excited ,aggressive dog can excite all the other dogs in the area and this would result in multiple fights between animals.Its all about pack mentality ,which is very strong in all breeds of dogs.
How much insurance does the town have to cover these dog parks.

ReplyDeleteto the poster "woof woof"-- to my knowledge the monies to create the park came from a ny state grant of $43,000.Local greemburgh/westchester tax money was not invloved..Even if it was from local tax base it would most likely come out to maybe .25 cents per resident or less...if spending .25 cents causes you to eat dog food you have many more problems than getting poor paying taxes.

That is the silent way of taxing the public.
One way or another we have to pay.
If a grant is received and not used by a set date it has to be returned to state.

Who do you think pays the taxes to the state and federal governments which get disbursed as grants? You do!
This area pays far, far more in taxes to the state and federal governments than it receives back in services and grants. Do you really believe that some magnimous government somewhere just sends along money it has lying around doing nothing so that Greenburgh can have a dog park? If so, may I please send you my children's lists for Santa Claus because you obviously know where to go with them.
Taxter Ridge cost taxpayers in Greenburgh the whole $10 or $12 million - unless you have a magical purse which pays the Town, the State and the Federal government from different sources, YOU paid for all of it.

ReplyDeleteFor all the TDYCC critics - stop in and visit the place. The diversity, the programs are what happening at the center, it's a great place!!
Merging the department services of P& R and TDYCC maybe one answer, but it will keep Gerry, Joe and James from playing golf everyday.
The Parks and Recreation department is a joke too!
Programs operate three months out of the year - Nothing done during the months of October to March. Oh Halloween. Cut a few lawns, one senior program, one special needs program - Separtism was created because we (caucasion) did not want to mingle.
Racism is rampant in Greenburgh -perpetualed by town board members, motivated by being re-elected.
Let's raise fees of non-residents who use our facilities at rock bottom prices, structure the programs at the Center/P&R to be self sufficient and stop doing favors for people who are supposed to pay fees.
Get it right Paul and Board members; Nov 2009, 2010 will be here before you know it - Then it's over!! smile Greenburgh taxpayers
