IN OTHER NEWS...Today the Appellate Division: Second Department dismissed Bob Bernstein’s most recent appeal of a lawsuit he filed against the town.. The town has also reached a tentataive agreement with Irvington's fire company to serve E Irvington. The contract had expired in December, 2005. Finally - we agreed on a formula. The contract will be renewed till December 31, 2011. The town has also reached agreements with Glenville, Tarrytown and Elmsford fire protection districts (all volunteer departments) to provide service to some parts of unincorporated Greenburgh.

  1. I heard that the Greenville Fire Department ratified their contract this week. 4 1/4 % per year for the next 3 years. Is this true??

    Consolidation!!!!!!!!
    Never Happen!!!!!!!!!

I guess they deserve it, so many fires.....sooooo many!!!

  2. The Greenville Fire District announced that next year's tax hike will be only 1.6%, making this the fourth year in a row that the fire district's tax hikes have been less than 4%. Compare that with unincorporated Greenburgh's taxes, which have gone up by more than 31% over the past two years alone.

Consolidation would hike those fire taxes in Edgemont by 21% to subsidize Fairview and Hartsdale. No one in Edgemont would ever support such a thing, but it's easy to understand why Feiner is pushing it..

He'd rather foment baseless disputes among unincorporated Greenburgh areas in the hope of distracting attention away from the Town's own soon-to-be-announced tax hike for unincorporated Greenburgh in 2010, which won't be pretty. Taxpayers should demand accountability from town government and not tolerate this BS from Feiner.

  3. Paul will be elected to another two year term. We must like those tax increases.

  4. Don't know that Edgemont cares much for those whopping town tax hikes. They seem to be moving toward incorporation again, and encouraging other parts of unincorporated to do likewise.

  5. kind of pathetic reading the anti-Feiner whiners when they had two years to find a candidate and did nothing but kvetch anonymously on this blog.

  6. Don't blame the residents for not having a viable candidate for Supervisor - Feiner has amassed a huge campaign war chest - most having come from his unsuccessful run for Congress a few years back. He's become too powerful in terms of money and also has the luxury of campaigning on Town time. He also uses the Town resources to mail out all kinds of nonsense just to keep his name in front of us - mailings that we pay for.

We need term limits and campaign reform. That's the only way to get rid of this guy. He will die in office!

you dont need to beat feiner
you need to replace his enablers like juettner, sheehanigans and morgan

just 3 votes can undo the damage

  11. Dear 11:33,

Oh but there was an effort afoot to replace Feiner. Mike Kolesar was going to run for Supervisor and with a team. But haven't you heard, when Feiner got wind of it (not so hard as Mike was already talking to village officials regarding support) that was the reason Kolesar was fired. And a very convenient opportunity for the pliable then, Deputy Controller opened up.

Come 201l, there will be a better prepared and funded opposition. Of that you be certain. And there will be the requisite just three votes.

Let me perform the introduction to someone you seem to have a lot in common with.

    Dear 11:45,

"Wherever you go, whatever you do, were're gonna go through it together..." Department.

Loved you on the Blythedale blog and love you even more on philanthropy...

So blithe spirit, let's go to the tape:

How can Edgemont justify giving firemen more than a 4% salary increase when many people in the community are struggling and out of work?

    To 11:48 (anonymous, of course),

I would think that Edgemont can justify it because it is their money and their vote cast to do so.

And because of their foolish behavior, when it comes down to what this raise means to the check they write which includes the raise, their Fire District taxes only increased 1.6%. Doing something wrong apparently has its benefits.

Not at all unlike the popular quote regarding General Ulysses Grant's drinking "problem" at the time of the Civil War. Was it Lincoln who said something like "Find out what brand he drinks and send a case of it to all my other generals".

How is your pet Fire District doing by comparison?

I'm equally curious as to your response to the question: Who's buried in Grant's tomb?

  14. Since there are no more fires in Greenburgh and the Greenburgh Firefighters continually get rewarded for doing nothing. Why don't they start cleaning the parks and doing the lawn maintainance around the Town Parks and Town Hall to justify there existence.

"Kvetch anonymously." I that any different from, "diss anonymously?" You phony.

There are just as many Feinerites posting anonymously, as anti's.What I don't seem to understand is why the Feiner supporters have to post anonymously... oh! Lightbulb...they must be Feiner praising Feiner. How silly of me.

I can't remember Feiner supporters using their names in support of Greenburgh's Greatest Blunder.

  17. If Greenburgh awarded employees a large salary increase of almost 5 percent we bloggers would scream. why shouldn't we scream when an independent fire district in Edgemont awards big salaries to their employees when many of us are out of work.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Great to have someone spending your money foolishly

    ReplyDelete
  19. That independent fire district in Edgemont seems to have its financial act together, unlike Feiner's Greenburgh. Let's see if Greenburgh can match Edgemont's 1.6% tax hike for next year. Don't count on it.

  20. Do you wonder why the Fire Chief of Fairview F.D. doesn't retire at his age? All one has to do is check his yearly salary. What a joke!!!!!!! And how many deputy chiefs do one fire department need?

    paul -

can you tell us which of bernstein's lawsuits was dismissed by the appellate division. i thought he was only seeking to reargue cacace's decision on the tdycc?

  23. Greenville fire dept vs Greenburgh. Don't compare tax hikes. Compare services offered and the costs. Super sized salaries are not justified at the fire dept.

  24. 12:52,8:37,10:59 and 12:52 are you a disgruntled police officer who took the wrong test? I know you're

  26. Dear 11:31, as a blogger, even as a non-taxpayer, I would praise the Supervisor's budget that gave employees 5% raises and still resulted in a 1.6% tax increase.
Probably that would mean the end of the Arts Council and private tennis lessons, two of my focal points.
So, Feinerfoils, if you want to see me eat humble pie, convince the Supervisor. 5% raises, 1.6% increase. Maybe that's the prescription for those that urge consolidation. Follow Edgemont's lead, maybe they've stumbled on the winning formula.

  31. Where was the debate and public hearing on the town's recent CSEA contract? Feiner reneged on agreements made with that union, nevertheless charged the taxpayers for their raises, and then used the money for other town purposes. Eventually they got their 3% raises. This was not prudent fiscal management. This was both venal and reckless.

Where was the debate and public hearing on the town's contract with the Teamsters Union? There wasn't one.

Nor was there any debate or public hearing on the town's contract with the PBA. And how bout that settlement of the PBA's dental claim? The town agreed to make contributions over a ten year period, ending in 2019, with annual increases in excess of 6%. Didn't hear much about that from Feiner, did you?

    ReplyDelete
  32. So you picked on Greenvilles fire department salaries without checking on the other departments.........

    Is there any differnce???????

    ReplyDelete
  33. When and where was Feiner's press conference on the Police contract and dental claim settlememt ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. FYI, the settlement of ONLY a portion of the PBA dental claim had a present value of $1.8 million. Read the Bennett Kielson management letter and the Town's response therein regarding the risk retention fund.

Still pending is a claim on behalf of "most" of the retired PBA members. In the papers initially filed against the Town, guess which retired PBA member wasn't a named party? (The only one.) Anybody care to venture Kevin Morgan? He should have recused himself from all activities and decisions on this matter, but he didn't. Guess who "won"? Is wasn't the taxpayers of unincorporated Greenburgh.

  35. Can't believe you're now going after kevin who works very hard and is a great addition to the Town Board.

Isn't the fact about Mr. Morgan
mysteriously being left off the retiree PBA's claim correct? Don't address the real issue ( a real ethical conflict of interest), but try to divert attention from the "hard working" Councilman. Nice going, but we the taxpayers aren't buying. Next.

  39. No one can put a value per se on human life, not Mr. Joyce's nor the 300+ brave members of the NYC Fire Department, many of whom climbed the stairs of the WTC on 9/11. On the other hand, there must be limits and reasonable compensation. For the record, Mr. Joyce is reported to have earned ONLY $90,563 in the year 4/1/08 tp 3/31/09. How do the "Chiefs" expect taxpayers to respect them for their $200,000 + compensation which in turn gets a very, very nice retirement. It doesn't work this way in the Federal Government and it doesn't work this way in private industry. Forget about the very few who make ( and I'm not sure they "earn") big bucks. Most don't and that's reality. We need some reality checks in our society.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sadly but not surprsingly, Kevin Morgan is Feiner's rubber stamp. Feiner subsidized 100% of the campaign for Morgan and Brown to run on "his" ticket. Why do you think Sheehan and Juettner have quieted down the last 2 years? They know he will do the same to remove them from office as well. The only who dares to question him is Brown which I'm sure comes as a surprise to him. She'll be next on his hit list. Don't believe Morgan is a nice guy - he's a snake on the take. How dare he take a $2,000 medical insurance buy-out when we're talking about laying off employees and cutting senior programs! This guy will be pulling down at least 2 pensions when he's done. Give back the $2G
