POOL AT THEODORE YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER SHOULD BE OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK

A number of years ago the indoor pool at the Theodore Young Community Center was open seven days a week. I plan to request that we resume having the pool open seven days a week.
We are currently unable to accomodate all the special needs of our swim teams, the disabled and others who use and enjoy our pool facilities.

TDYCC is one of the best things about living in Greenburgh. The pool, and the building should be opened 7 days a week, it is a real unifying factor for a town the size of Greenburgh.

& days is a good idea. The entire center should be open 7 days a week including most holidays. We need a safe place for our youth to go. And is a shame they cant go there on Sundays or Holidays.

Might be a good idea, but what were the specific reasons for having it closed on Sundays?

Yes the pool should be opened 7 days a week. we have to do everything in our powers to help the youth of Greenburgh. It will give them something to do on sunday. If money is needed get rid of Kaminer and give the money over to the center.

We should think of having a second indoor pool to accomodate all all-year event like swimming

It would be nice if the pool were open another day. Can you also make sure the 5:30 AM swim continues. It's really great swimming before the crowds arrive. Thanks.

Elmo Ardlsey has an indoor pool at the middle school.

I would assume the Ardsley pool is not open to non-Ardsley people, and also has to balance needs of school.

Mr. Feiner: Is there a reason that it used to be open on Sundays but now isn't? Just gotta make sure to look at all angles before jumping into an idea.

I think it's a good idea to have it opened 7 days. Also, many seniors that frequent the GC gym have now been displaced due to the school district slashing hours at the gym at Woodlands.
Can there be a program or equipment in place for these poor folks?

I can't believe a few people get up at a Town Board meeting and complain about the pool and the Town wants to jump through hoops to fix the problem. It's been brought up 100 times about the people putting their garbage at the curb 24/7, the over crowded single family homes and nothing is ever done about it. Can anyone answer me why?

I agree the pool should be open seven days a week. My larger concern is the need to re-open the fitness center at Woodlands High School. This was also discussed at the meeting the other night. I hope the fitness center will be open by September if not before for all Greenburgh residents (old and young). It is a wonderful state of the art facility with a wonderful certified fitness instructor, Mr. Carl Tucker. I hope to hear good news very soon!

yes one of the biggest problem is the garbage put at curbside,How many times must one repeat themselves .This complaint really should be on another page, Hold on I'm switching pages.

"Can anyone answer me why?"

I agree that this is another issue unto itself that deserves its own page, but it is a very important question.

DPW-related concerns of the everyday citizen seem to be ignored (trash, mowing, street sweeping, general simple maintenance), and they are of the highest importance to the citizen's quality of life. I don't get it either.

Sure, open the pool on Sundays - whatever - but it truly baffles me to see so many sewer grates throughout the town clogged and median strips neglected and ... okay ... I'll stop here or else I'll crash the blog system!

Suffice it to say that the opening the pool on Sundays won't win votes, but action in meeting the ** routine expectations ** (nothing fancy, just simple ongoing maintenance) of taxpayers might.

I hope that Francis Sheehan will reconsider his opposition to opening up the fitness center. using the center at woodlands provided residents with a great benefit.

Has anyone noticed what is happening here in Greenburgh. The last blog states they hope that Sheehan changes his mind about the fitness center,If Feiner said that he wanted it closed --Sheehan would say he wanted it open . Since Feiner said he wanted to help the center stay open for the residents, Sheehan is against it. If anything has to be done from now on in Greenburgh Feiner should refuse all requests. and it will be granted by Sheehan. We have to use reverse physocology.

As many comments were stated on the blog, Sheehan is against any suggestions made by the supervisor. This also goes for the residents, It has to be Sheehans idea or there is no go.

"SILVER STREAKS" SWIM TEAM IS A PRIVATE "FOR PROFIT" OPERATION--
MOST OF THE PARTICIPANTS ARE "OUT OF TOWN" RESIDENTS--
THE FOUNDER'S SONS WERE OLYMPIC QUALITY SWIMMERS & HE WAS TED YOUNG'S
ATTORNEY AT ONE TIME--
ALL THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT--
WHATEVER THEY PAY FOR THE USE OF THE FACILITY NEVER MET THE COST INVOLVED!!!

"WHATEVER THEY PAY FOR THE USE OF THE FACILITY ..."

Can't blame the team, though. The Town of Greenburgh sets the facility rental rates.

When will the Fairview Fire dept get the $100,000 promised to them by Barnes? What happened?

To the very first anonymous poster pm this section -
I recently moved to an apartment in Edgemont to give my kids a really good education.
I'm not rich and wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I'm not concerned with material things as much as my neighbors seem to be and no one in the community really knows me.
I was really upset to find my kids weren't welcome at TDYCC - and I felt I wasn't either. I was scared by the behaviors I saw, and when I was referred to as "that white bitch" I knew it would be the last time either me or my children would think about using a "town-wide" facility.
I'm sick of hearing about how "bad" Edgemont is - about how "exclusive" some folks think it is. Did you ever think that YOU might be more open and welcoming?
The TDYCC pool isn't a "unifying" factor, it is a symbol of the ugliest and worst kind of racism.
Keep your pool, but learn to pay for it yourself.

km smith is right. the dirty deal is that fairview gets theodore young and the rest of the unincorporated gets veteran park. the dirtier deal is that theodore young is open to everyone in the town and even outside the town but only unincorporated is billed for it.

Anonymous said...

This blog has been very helpful for the residents of unincorporated area to see where their tax dollars go. This is not fair.I think there should be an overall revue of the tax system and where money is allocated. Why should monies go to a place that cannot be used by all.

Anonymous said...

" ... theodore young is open to everyone in the town and even outside the town but only unincorporated is billed for it"

and people in elmsford and along 119 and north are the primary users ... hartsdale and edgemont shouldn't even have to bear the costs of that place ... do the villages have to chip in too??? ... i hope that edgemont incorporates, and hartsdale too ... then maybe the community center can be charged appropriately just to fairview ... or maybe make it the elmsford-fairview community center ... too much middle management there anyway, so there's plenty of room to cut expenses, even if the pool is open seven days a week

Taxpayers should not be paying for a pool in the Fairview area of Greenburgh. If they are the sole users of the pool,[so it seems]they should be fitting the bill. Should we also investigate what is legal or not concerning tax money. The way they are paying school taxes they should pay for the center. They do hold classes of some sort, they also have a daycare .If this is all correct they should be taxed in Fairview for this building too.

Anonymous said...

Yea, I've never liked that the Community Center is billed to everyone when Fairview and Elmsford are clearly the primary market. It would be better if we were one town of nine villages (add Edgemont, Hartsdale and Fairview) so that financial matters could be allocated more fairly.

there is a lawsuit challenging what feiner is doing by billing only unincorporated for the theodore young center

Greenburgh Parks and Rec needs to focus more on limiting use of facilities to residents of unincorporated Greenburgh. Group usage of parks shoudl require a permit. Who is the council liason for parks and rec, because Feiner isnt the "problem solver" on parks and rec.

Anonymous said...

Yes, open the entire Center 7 days a week even if it is only open from 12-6 on Sunday. Not just for the kids, but for adults as well. People who work all week would be glad to be able to relax and swim on the weekends.

Anonymous said...

This is the same problem with opening Woodlands to the "public". If you're not the right race, you're not welcome.

Anonymous said...

Dear 7/23-4:59
the lawsuit is also against Bass, Barnes, Juettner and Sheehan.

Anonymous said...

sorry - you are mistaken - the lawsuit challenging the funding of theo young center is against feiner and the town - feiner is being sued because he is the town's chief financial officer among other things (of course he is really just a gadflt imitating a real supervisor)

"This is the same problem with opening Woodlands to the "public". If you're not the right race, you're not welcome."

Not true! Sadly, this may be the one and only facility in unincorporated GBH that all feel welcome! I attribute this to the wonderful man running it, Mr. Carl Tucker, as well as it patrons. Carl is devoted to ensuring that health & fitness is priority for all. He's invaluable. It's a shame that the GC board has decided to cut the hours there. It feels like retalation for the budget vote.

As a frequent past user of the gym I assure you that it is colorblind. Unusual here in Greenburgh, but true. Boo on the BOE!

I am glad that you are considering opening the pool on Sundays. This will help to solve the problem of lap swim times as well as giving children a chance to perfect their skills. Thank you for bringing back a good activity.
