Thruway facing $75,000 in daily fines for illegal toxic storage UNDER TZ BRIDGE

(ALBANY - More than 80 barrels of hazardous waste improperly stored under the Tappan Zee Bridge could cost the New York State Thruway $75,000 a day in fines.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Thruway met Tuesday to discuss the illegal storage, discovered in the fall of 2006, according to documents obtained by The Journal News.
Some of the 81 barrels, standing yards from the Hudson River, had been stored for years, one more than four years, despite state regulations that required that they not remain there more than 90 days, the DEC documents allege.
The environmental policing agency was alerted to the cache by an anonymous tipster, and sent a hazardous-waste inspector to the site Oct. 12 of last year.
The 55-gallon drums containing paint thinner, paint, asphalt and other hazardous materials were in "poor condition" and improperly stacked near the northbound side of the three-mile span on the Westchester side, the DEC said when the barrels were discovered.

spitzer and cousins campaign bs - everything starts on day one - what hogwash
What else is new,did we not pay for what ever toxic waste was found.
If it was to be used to maintain the bridge why was it left behind.
Well they are catching up to the ones that make deals concerning the bridges.
Two have already been arrested.
No one seems to care where the tax payers monies get spent.
This is a good example of what the residents of Greenburgh have been saying in regard to the tax Hike.
No one watched the spending and now we have to pay.
It is a crime to allow department heads do what they want and buy what they want.
Toxic waste under the bridge how much waste is there in the town of Greenburgh.
Has anyone taken steps to investigate thoroughly.I doubt it.
The waste in Greenburgh is poisoning our minds because we cannot make ends meet, thinking where our next dollars will be coming from.
.
Francis Sheehan wants to increase spending. Taxes keep going up. It's disgraceful.
If Sheehan and JUettner do not resign just remember if they run for reelection in two years we must defeat them big time.
HEY HAL
(IN RESPONSE TO YOUR 8:15 ON THE POLICE CUTS PAGE)
I THINK YOUR COMMENTS ARE ABOUT AS STUPID AS YOU LOOK ON BROADCASTS OF THE TOWN BOARD MEETINGS.
FOR YOU TO PUT FIREMEN AND BEER, AND COPS AND DOUGHNUTS IN THE SAME FOOLISH RESPONSE - YOU HAVE BALLS. MAYBE ONE DAY YOU OR A LOVED ONE (WELL, OK YOU) HOUSE WILL BE ON FIRE...MAYBE THE FD WILL BE "GETTING BEER" AS YOU PUT IT. MAYBE ONE DAY YOU (FORGET THE LOVED ONE) WILL NEED A POLICE OFFICER.....OH YEAH, THEY'LL BE AT "DUNKIN DOUNUTS" AS YOU PUT IT....
THESE MEN AND WOMEN ARE HERE TO SAVE YOUR LIFE.
WHEN YOU RUN AWAY FROM SOMETHING THAT SCARES YOU OR YOU JUST CANT HANDLE, MAKE SURE THE COP OR FIREMAN RUNNING IN YOUR DIRECTION TO HELP YOU DOES NOT TRIP YOU FOR YOUR FOOLISH COMMENTS...YOU FOOL!!!
WHAT DO WE NEED ANOTHER TERRORIST ATTACK BEFORE YOU APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE HERE IN POLICE AND FIRE.... YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE FOOL !! GET A LIFE
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING ? YOU SHOULD BE A CLOWN !!!!
Now thats good. Finally
Samis is only trying to tell the town where money can be saved.
He does not want to abolish the fire nor the police dept.
We have to save money.
We the residents have spoken and we want results.
If there are duplicate services do away with them .
If there is waste thow it down.
We cannot afford the hike.
One way or another something has to be done.
Too much money going out and not enough money coming in.
So don't say that Samis is against the two departments.
He took care of the library budget quite well in showing where money can be saved.
A judge said that the board has to learn how to say NO.
Well it's about time.

Parks and recs should be cut first.
They dont even bother to respond -- unlike Kapeca.
