CENSUS BUREAU JOBS
To Westchester organizations and community groups -please feel free to place this information in your newsletter or as an e-blast to your membership/contacts.
US CENSUS BUREAU CURRENTLY RECRUITING
The U.S. Census Bureau is now recruiting Westchester residents for temporary part-time census positions for the 2010 Census. The pay is good (field workers can earn $18-$20 per hour), the hours are flexible, and the work is close to home.
Census taker jobs are excellent for retirees, college students, persons who want to work part-time, persons who are between jobs, or just about anyone who wants to earn extra money while performing an important service for their community.
In order to apply, you must be 18 years old or over and pass a written test. US citizens are given preference. Tests are currently being offered in convenient locations all over Westchester County. To apply to take the test, please call (866) 861-2010. For more information, you may go to www.census.gov/2010censusjobs/index.php

This is nice, though I would like for the supervisor to focus more on managing Greenburgh operations.
you mustn't be unemployed
Why is the supervisor attempting to duplicate services already in place and run by employment professionals? We already pay county taxes for employment services available in White Plains.
This is actually the Supervisor's second posting for these jobs. The first occasion was several months ago.
Does he know of anyone actually hired?
Does he know of how many jobs are available locally?
Before false hopes are raised, maybe it would be a good thing to check it out.
Dear Mr. Samis: Since I started posting job opportunities I have encouraged residents to contact me- I have been successful in helping people find work. Some of the jobs have been good, others not that great.
I am very pleased that I have been able to be of help to the unemployed during these difficult economic times.

This is an e mail I just received from someone who is hiring. I enjoy helping people and find it surprising that some people find fault with helping a neighbor.

Thank you. I will give her a call. I touched base with everyone so far. As a matter of fact David is coming in to my office on Thursday for us to talk. Thank you.
"find fault with helping a neighbor"
It's certainly nice to help a neighbor, but it's not at all related to the job responsibilities that you're employed for - supervision of roadway maintenance, tax collection, code enforcement, personnel management, etc.
Despite the economy, tax collection of school tax bills (just completed) was very good.
westchester county is a big neighbor yet paul wants to bring them down while his own town is becoming a waist land.
Dear Mr. Feiner,
The issue I have raised is not that I believe that job placement is not a worthy mission or that it is not one that you should take on -- but a question relating specifically to this Census Testing.
Since you posted news of this testing some months ago on this blog and the tests were also given months ago, has anyone that you know actually been hired by the Census.
For example, the woman who works for us, her son a recent college graduate looking for work, took this test over three months ago, scored 100 and is still waiting to her from them.
All I asked in my posting was whether you, this second time around, knew any more than you did the first time. If these jobs are months and months from now, perhaps it would be useful for residents to know this before their hopes are raised.

Paul, what do you mean by this? The collection was performed well? The rate of payment was high? huh? Are you suggesting that paying school taxes is somehow voluntary? I don't understand what you are implying.
It means that the school district has been ripping us off as is evident in the recent audit findings
Hal maybe you can work on the census, with your knowledge of EVERYTHING you would be great at it. You spend so much time on the blog you probably are out of work
Hal Samis
How do you know the person scored 100 if he did not here from the census people
