p/t grant writer for federal stimulus fund applications sought....

The Greenburgh Town Board is interested in reviewing proposals from grant writers to assist the town in our efforts to take advantage of grant opportunities available via the federal stimulus funding that is available to local governments. The part time grant writer will assist the town in our efforts to obtain energy conservation stimulus funds available through the Department of Energy and other sources. We are interested in applying for other federal stimulus grants that we are eligible for. The grants writer will work with Winsome Gordon, our grants coordinator and appropriate department heads.
The grant writer should have a proven record in winning grant funds. In addition, he/she should have knowledge of the current stimulus funding available and experience dealing with state and federal agencies. The p/t writer should be available immediately to ensure that funding deadlines of May 26 and June 25 are met.
Contacts with federal/state agencies, officials could be a plus.
E mail townboard@greenburghny.com with a bio and proposal if you are interested in applying for the position.

Rather than adding a new position, shouldn't the grants coordinator be doing this?

If hiring a part time worker who knows federal grant writing will generate significant financial benefits for the town, go for it!

No better admission that the town has no "shovel ready" projects available for federal stimulus funding than Feiner's latest post. What's shocking is that it's been known for months that there would be a substantial federal stimulus package available and it's been known for years that Greenburgh's infrastructure has been sadly neglected. Even Feiner himself should be able to list all the projects that need to be done in Greenburgh. Yet, sadly, no one's put the list together. It seems no one in town government even knows where to begin.

Since the town has been working on a stimulus plan, why then is there a need for a grants writer? Relieve Mrs Gordan of the day to day work of coordinating and allow her the time as well as the that of Mr. Gamino (also working and paid in the philanthropy Dep't) to concentrate on the stimulus package proposal. She can do the writing and he can at least do the political stuff. Paul we do not need any more new employees or consultants for whom you held at arms lengths some years ago.

Greenburgh is not GM or a bank or
AIG. Nor is Westchester.

Under the trickle-down reality, rather than a bonanza, there might be a few hundred thou that might come our way...
IF the Town has been working on the stimulus incentive for months,

then it is already over and done with. No need to hire anyone.
And since the stimulus package is a new program, there are no "experts" in stimulus. It is catch as catch can, a free for all.

Instead of reacting by looking for someone from the outside, what should be the directive is instructing the "philanthropy department" that they better get cracking but then, whom else could it be if "We have been working on this for months" is true.

Some people will attack anything just to be on the negative side. What they don't realize is that it diminishes their opinions on what really does matter. Winsome Gordon and George Gumina do a great job...they have brought in millions of dollars for the Town during their tenure. Grant writers don't have to subsidized with tax dollars - they can incorporate their fees into the grants. They get paid if they get the grant and don't get paid if they don't get the grant.

You want applications for this job to include a bio (or, if you will, a resume) - but you are completely comfortable with not having the same information about 2 men working with our children in Xposure?
Something is dreadfully wrong here.
