Did Eliot Spitzer give back Caro's contributions?
Did Andrew Cuomo give back Caro's contributions?
Did Mark Green give back Caro's contributions?
Is Suzannne Berger giving back the contributions she received from Bryan Cave lawyers (the lawyers who received a no interview six figure town contract?
Is Steve Bass giving back contributions he is receiving indirectly from the Dem party?

Spitzer, Cuomo and Green routinly returned questionable contributions when they were running for office. All politicians do so because it's usually considered political suicide not to.

Feiner doesn't seem to unerstand that important political lesson.

Bass gave back the $125 from the credit union after Feiner made a fuss about it. Bass also gave back the $250 he got from Bennett Kielsen, the town's auditors, when questions were raised about political contributions affecting the auditor's duty of independence.

Feiner by contrast, continues to rake in lots of dough from Bennett Kielsen and, despite all the questions being raised about the town's misleading financial statements, Feiner sees nothing wrong ethically with his continuing to take their money.

Berger did not give back any of the money she received from her colleagues at the law firm where she works, nor should she. There's nothing wrong with her raising money from her colleagues at work. She did not vote on the Bryan Cave contract; the firm's fees are being paid not by taxpayers but by a developer; and the firm was recommended by Feiner's own staff -- the town attorney and the town's planning commissioner -- after considering two other firms that the town had done business with in the past.

There's a world of difference between, on one hand, Feiner's having taken tens of thousands of dollars from developers with applications pending, his refusing to return any of it, and his refusing to recuse himself from these decisions, and Berger's having raised funds from her friends at work who know her best.

the Greenburgh Democratic committee received money from Bennett Kielson. The Democratic party paid for a mailing for Berger/Bass/Barnes. Has the Greenburgh Democratic Committee returned this questionable contribution? Getting indirect ccntributions is worst than getting direct contributions.
Bass reports in his financial disclosure statement to the Board of Elections that his polling cost only $4000. No poll costs only $4000. Is someone else funding parts of the poll and not disclosing the contribution?

An unsolicited letter from Mr. Jerrold Cohen, a long-time resident of East Hartsdale Avenue. He was one of the hosts of the candidate's forum that took place next to 180 E. Hartsdale Avenue the other night. Note his perspective on the reality of who is "really" concerned with the plight of that street and the businesses and people who exist and live there. Note his opinion of Ms. Barnes, who has earned her retirement by the voters.

Isn't it time that we put to bed the lies promulgated by the Bernstein-Sheehan-Berger forces, who write 99% of the anti-Feiner claptrap that pollutes this site.

They need to slander Morgan and Brown! They need to defend Williams and her part-time effort at the clerk's office! They need to create a monster out of Paul Feiner. Isn't it ironic how Berger and Bernstein ride along with Sheehan and his politics of division. Only Sheehan could invent a intangled story for the need of a meeting on the Jewsih High Holy Days. Can you imagine if Paul Feiner had scheduled a meeting on Christmas Eve! No sane human would have done that. No sane human would have tried to force that down the public's throat. Then we were entertained by Sheehan's cancellation of the meeting. He must have gotten a message. Yes, he did! The message was from the front page of the Journal News and the indignation coming from all fair people representing all of our great religious belief. But this is what Paul is up against. Just see Berger's latest idiotic lambast. She states, "STOP HIM NOW," as if he was Typhoid Mary.

Has the town suffered over his 16 years as the Town Supervisor? No, and empathic no! Has the Town sufffered from his eight previous years as a County Legislator? No! But what do these people really want? Why do they doth protest so vigorously? They want something! Is it good government? Is it more parks? Is it fiscal responsibility? Is it an activist 24/7 Supervisor? Is it a man that stands up to the power of Andy Spano, the political bosses and Robert Bernstein? No they have all of that with Paul Feiner. No, they want unmitigated power! They want power to do what they wish. Greenburgh can be just as corrupt as Yonkers, or Mount Vernon or any other place. It is easy, just let down your guard.

When Paul Feiner warned us of the rush to judgement on the library, he was pilloried as a "book burner." When he asked for an independent project manager he was rebuffed. When he sought to deal fairly with the villages, he was litigated to death. When he held Greenburgh together, the Board met secretly, in a veiled attempt to engineer the withdrawal of Edgemont from unincorporated Greenburgh. But the Edgemont people had explored independence for decades, and in each era they saw the futility of that effort. Their tax burden is mostly from the schools they choose. Is that anything new? How about the tax burden in other exclusive areas, like Bronxville, Rye, Chappaqua and neighboring Scarsdale. We are all aware of the inequity in local funding, but that inequity builds exclusiveness. So one chooses to pay that price. But Robert Berstein is committed to the destruction of Paul Feiner, even if it means the destruction of Greenburgh. He has stated that he will spend an unlimited amount of his time in his effort to destroy, defame and defeat Paul Feiner.

Over the years, Paul's style of going directly to the people has irked the political insiders. As the primary has become more important than the general election, with the decline of the Republican Party, the bosses have decided to flex their muscles. Now they can fund their favorites in a party fight. For generations it was illegal for the party to take sides with their treasury, but now Suzanne Berger can fund her own campaign with monies from all sorts of Democrats. Many of these democrats support Paul Feiner and his team. She has the temerity of thinking of herself as a reformer! She is a party hack, who has raided the "collection" plate. She talks of reform, but she abuses her own college's alumnae list! The college has called her down on that action. She talks of being a uniter as chairperson, but in the Kerry Camapign she excluded the Supervisor from speaking in support of the Democratic Party's nominee. She ignored Sheehan's race-baiting thrust at Don Siegel at a Town Board meeting. She sat smiling like a Cheshire Cat at Board meeting after Board meeting while the Supervisor was harrangued and slandered. She backed his opponent in the last election cycle and her lack of fairness and prejudice drove the young poltical activist, Jason Gooljar, from the Democratic Party.

In the Fair Campaign Practice Hearings, during the last election cycle, she defended the slanderous lies that she states today. She served as the lawyer for Juettner and the noxious Sheehan in those hearings when they were censured. Her water-carrier at the WCLA, has used her venon against Andrea Stewart Cousins, when she backed Nick Spano. Oh how she was burned in that campaign. I note that Paul Feiner helped Stewart-Cousins greatly, and she therfore had the decency to stay neutral in the Supervisor's race. Now Berger hides behind the slimey anti-choice charges against the Paul Feiner slate. In Joseph Welsh's famous answer to Joe McCarthy, "..have you no shame."

She has a record of defending landlords in opposition to the NAACP and she calls herself a "real" Democrat. She is a political opportunist.

But you have a choice on the 18th of September. You can go with a man of the people, who has devoted his life to public service, in the public's interest, or an inexperienced opportunist, who has used her party position to ingratiate herself with the party bosses, and the ambitious designs of Bernstein-Bass-Sheehan!
The choice is clear!

Richard J. Garfunkel

LETTER FROM JERRY COHEN!

Jerrold Cohen
180 East Hartsdale Avenue.
Hartsdale, NY 10530
September 12, 2007

Dear Neighbor,

As a 35 year resident of East Hartsdale Ave, president of my Coop Board, and Chairman of the Hartsdale Parking Committee, I beseach you to support Paul Feiners bid for re-election, along with Sonja Brown, Kevin Morgan and Judy Beville.

Pauls opponent, Suzanne Berger, is right about one thing. We do need change in this town, but NOT by removing Paul Feiner. He is the only one in the town government that is responsive to Hartsdale.

We need to remove those in the town government that do not hear the voices of Hartsdale. This includes incumbents Eddie Mae Barnes and Steve Bass on the Town Council.

With the exception of Paul Feiner, the Town Council seems to let our concerns fall on deaf ears, regardless what the issue may be.

On September 10th, the Hartsdale Parking Committee sponsored an event for all the candidates to express their views on the lack of residential parking, the winter parking ban, administration of the Hartsdale Public Parking District, and improving storm drains to avert flooding.

Paul Feiner already supports our efforts to increase residential parking in East Hartsdale by sponsoring the Hartsdale Parking Committee. He committed himself to supporting our effort to change the Winter Emergency Parking Rules. Paul expressed his support for a Hartsdale Public Parking District administered by elected administrators. On the night of the April 15th flooding, Paul provided busses to shuttle residents to safety, and remained involved in the floods aftermath by coordinating efforts of the Building Department and facilitating work sessions with distressed residents at Town Council meetings.

Hartsdale cannot afford to lose this outstanding advocate who, alone on the Greenberg Town Council, has always been on call, available and responsive to Hartsdale residents.

On the contrary, incumbent Eddie Mae Barnes is out of touch with the needs of Hartsdale. Ironically she is the liaison to the Hartsdale Public Parking District, but is unaware of the 6-12 month wait list for 24 hour parking at the Site C lot (Central Ave and E Hartsdale Ave) and the short wait list for 24 hour parking at the Site A parking garage (behind Eckerd). She was quoted on September 10th as follows:

I know that because of the construction there was a decrease in the available space. But now there is no waiting list in parking lot A and a very short list in parking lot C.

Please help to keep Paul Feiner in office, and replace Eddie Mae Barnes.

Thank you

Jerrold Cohen

Oops, Garfunkel you forgot to mention that Jerry Cohen's coop thinks Feiner's done such a bang up job on East Hartsdale Avenue that it's filed a notice of claim against the town for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the ground that the town knew for years about the inadequately drainage infrastructure that caused so much damage on April 15, but did nothing to prevent the damage.

(Cohen's coop is not alone -- most of the businesses on East Hartsdale Avenue have filed negligence claims against the town seeking millions of dollars in damages owing to Feiner's negligence)

Cohen seems to forget that Feiner himself knew about the inadequate infrastructure, never warned the residents and merchants that they were at risk of a major flood, but Feiner nevertheless had plenty of time before the flood to issue a press release congratulating himself for getting the drains cleaned, when in fact they were not cleaned.

And five months later, Feiner has still not implemented any short-term emergency contingency plans for East Hartsdale Avenue. As a result, the apartments and the stores are just as vulnerable today as they were on April 15 when the nor'easter hit.

The rest of Cohen's letter shows that he's fallen for Feiner's BS. Sure, Feiner wants more residential parking for owners of coops on East Hartsdale Avenue who bought apartments without parking spaces -- easy for Feiner to say -- but who's going to pay for it Jerry? Did Feiner answer that?

You know Feiner won't let the villages pay for it, but do you seriously think he's going to get the rest of unincorporated Greenburgh to foot the bill just to make parking more convenient for your residents?

Feiner's evidently given you the impression that you're "entitled" to have the town spend millions to give your residents their own parking spaces.

Don't hold your breath.

You like the fact that Feiner wants parking district board members to be elected. But you forget the fact that the parking district, by law, serves only commuters, merchants and their customers. The parking district is therefore not authorized by law to deal with residential parking.

But Cohen doesn't want to hear that.

To be sure, there really are solutions to the problems on East Hartsdale Avenue, but Cohen should know better than to trust Feiner to come up with the answers. He's had 16 years to deal with these problems and all he's done is pander to the residents of East hartsdale avenue.

Dear anon 8:03

I personally met with Jerry Byrne, his staff & Dianna Juettner about 2 months ago regarding Presser Park, its current condition, the wall & future plans at the site.

At this meeting I asked about monies given to Edgemont rec for camp use & I was told that they paid them instead of having to lease additional space at GC to accommodate the the "possibility" of enrolled Edgemont children in the Greenburgh camps. And the problem with leasing from GC is.........what?

I am unsure why this transaction takes place as there was never an "overcrowding" and lack of facilities to accommodate the camp children because Edgemonts parents did not/would not enroll their kids into Greenburgh camp. Currently, Greenburgh allows non-residents into the camp program due to excess spots available.

This possibility is akin to GC contemplating the "possibility" of have the 1,100 or so Greenburgh students currently attended private school, enrolling into GC. How would GC handle this influx? First, how likely is this to happen? Unlikely. If it did, Would GC fund/lease/pay for additional exclusive space to accommodate these select children? Would they pay a private institution to accommodate them? No. The mere suggestion would bring cries of outrage.

My school taxes would go up, they would hire more teachers/staff and build more space.

The amount that is paid to Edgemont Rec, if I recall correctly, was around 13K per year. (don't hold me to that) I was not shown the budget, I have no idea on what line in the budget it is taken from but I confirmed that indeed money is given to Edgemont Rec. Unless of course, Byrne & Juettner are lying.

It's true that there is no money changing hands as Edgemont rec does not pay for exclusive use for it's camps at the pool. They have special, reserved, pool time for its camps as well as the school swim teams, for free.(what dollar value does this free leasing have?)

I asked, hypothetically, if any one select group could form its own rec within Greenburgh, with the possibility of getting the same considerations that Edgemont rec and SD receives from the town. The answer was, hypothetically, yes.

So, while I don't believe that to be true, nor practical and just, I do believe that this could be the only answer I could be given. Could they have said "no" ?

You can google the web and find information on Edgemonts Rec's donations to both the EDGMT SD & the Scarsdale Teen center.

Although posters believe that "there are bigger issues at hand" I believe that this to be a serious issue. Not only do I not want my tax dollars going to support these exclusive programs, I am very concerned at the precedent that has been set here.

Should I suggest to the parents of children attending Solomon Schechter , Maria Regina & Sacred Heart that they should demand they same considerations? Some of these schools do not have pools (therefore no swim teams) or facilities to conduct it's own camps, teen centers.........

If Edgemont wants a "private"club I have no problem with it but Edgemont should, at the very least, pay for it and conduct its activities at its own facilities. Edgemont is not yet a Village. It is a school district. They are residents of the Unincorporated Town of Greenburgh. It collects its own school taxes. Why am I paying them with tax dollars & free services not available to my children?

Edgemont has plenty to say about what they should & shouldn't be paying for or what they get or don't get. What would they be saying if the tables were turned?

Question of the Day for Steve Bass:

With all the rancor of the primary campaign, some members of the Town Board have spent a significant amount of time complaining about things that they feel are amiss. As you know, this is often a precursor to in-appropriate complaints and vitriolic language.

Today something great happened. For the first time in three days, the Journal News did not report on any of the alleged indiscretions of your running mate nor troublesome accusations about the current majority of the Town Board on the front page of the paper.

Even though they did report about the ill-advised and “ill-timed” meeting that was quite religiously intolerant on page 9, you must agree that the JN showed tremendous restraint. In their benevolence, they managed to keep your fellow majority members off the front page. That is something to celebrate.

Would you consider offering accommodations by way of a board resolution to the very same Journal News for actually keeping your friends off the front page of the papers for their alleged bad behaviors, even if it is just for one day?

PS – Does Eddie Mae know that her watch is only correct twice a day?

This is a 1st. HOLD THE PRESSES! Sheehan Backs Down!! Sheehan demonstrated his insensitivity toward members of the Jewish Faith by ordering that a Town Board Meeting be held on Rosh Hashanah and then showed his contempt by "excusing" Steve Bass from it. This blog and the comments contained therein forced Sheehan to reverse course. Without this blog, Sheehan's contempt for the public would have gone on without a forum to sound off in. Now, what we all need to do is get Kevin Morgan elected. Sheehan has now shown that he is not rock solid, he can be brought down. We need someone with Kevin's strength on the Board to hold him in check.

In a typical Francis Sheehan manuever, Sheehan pins the blame on the obomination of a meeting on a Jewish Holy Day on Tim Lewis. Sheehan is constantly deflecting blame away from himself. Does anyone recall the missive that he wrote to the State Comptroller stating how he was not on the Board at the time of the Westhelp deal? Sheehan is a coward.

Anonymous said...

Francis: You owe Tim Lewis an apology. Your nonsense caused Jim Heslop to step down. Town employees are praying that Morgan and Brown win.

Sheehan ,putting the blame on the town attorney, aint gonna work.
You are a yellow belly coward, for not taking the blame yourself.
The town attorney had nothing to do with your decision to hold the meeting on a jewish holyday.
And another thing, selecting the lawyer of yours and Sigel choice is also one of the biggest crime against the jews
You and Sigel have been working together for some time on this loopholed ethics but this is the icing on the cake, wanting a lawyer who defended terrorist dealing against the jews.
Sheehan and Sigel should step down ,because we of the jewish faith have no use for neither one.

Edgemont incorporating might make matters tough for the Hartsdale and Fairview, so wouldn't it be simpler if Greenburgh consisted solely of nine villages (the current six, plus Edgemont, Hartsdale and Fairview)? Split up Unincorporated Greenburgh's resources appropriately/fairly, and there'd be a lot more peace around here. If Edgemont wants to incorporate, I think this would be the wiser strategy in the big picture, no?

Anonymous said...

Sheehan needs to be investigated. To Date he has:

1. Ordered Gil Kaminer to abuse a women's 1st amendment rights.

2. Acted illegally in ordering the change of Greenburgh's Zoning Map without going through the proper procedures.

3. Particpated in a pay for play scheme with Suzanne Berger where Berger's financial contribution and political support of Sheehan were rewarded by getting a no bid contract worth potentially a million dollars to her law firm once Sheehan was elected.

4. Demonstrated a complete lack of concern for members of the Jewish Faith by ordering a Town Board meeting held on Rosh Hashanah.

Bass and Barnes caved in to SHeehan's demands and voted to hold this meeting on Rosh Hashanah. They need to be held accountable by voters in Greenburgh who care about religous freedom.

Anonymous said...

We need nine villages to get along? Seems a bit over the top to me.

I think it's foolish for Edgemont to not at least consider broadening it's boundaries to include part of Hartsdale. Edgemont has resorted to illegal tactics just to secure space for Town Hall? Edgemont can't exist in it's little bubble anymore. There just simply is not enough space, in schools, with land,or otherwise hence these desperate acts by its citizens.

The complete narrow-mindedness of those driving the Edgemont incorporation efforts are going to be responsible for an unsuccessful effort.

Anonymous said...

Sheehan you and your edgemont friends should call it quits.
Together you have committed enough troubles for a life time.
Sheehan by you leaving your edgemont seat on the board, will cut the rugs from under Bernstein, and McNallys legs.
THis is the only way all of Greenburgh will get back their government.

I dont know why this person keeps pushing for Hartsdale and Edgemont to combine. Even if they were to become a village togethor, they cant combine school districts, and G7 will never let them out.

All this talk about Edgemont incorporating -- If anyone here is against it, then they should vote for council/superivsor that will open a dialog with Edgemont, not just try to take advantage of them, like Feiner. The council/supervisor can not legally prevent an incorporation --

Feiner has a history of letting people think he can deliver things that he cant.

11:42 PM anon!

...so Swami, now one Jerry Cohen, a resident of E. Hartsdale Avenue, writes an endorsement letter! Lo and behold, he endorses the greatest hynotist of the 20th and 21st century, one Paul Feiner. It is said that only Messmer and maybe the great Dunniger had the power to not only read the minds of men (women too!) but bend their wills like a Uri Geller spoon. The poor Citizen Cohen was transfigmorated the other evening by that Svengali of all mentalists, the prince of darkness, Paul Feiner. Of course, this dark prince aka The Supervisor was never on East Hartsdale Avenue, of course Feiner had never tried to speed up the regulation process for merchants, of course Feiner never even heard of Hartsdale until the greatest deluge since the Johnstown Flood struck. It was all an illusion he had created over the years.

We now also know from anon 11:52 PM that it was Feiner and his gang who made sure the drains were clogged, just as the Son of the Shadow clogs men's minds! It was secret witness, now held in the castle at Zenda, who confessed while under the influence of the entreaties of the Princess Chee Chee Berger. He saw Feiner and his slate carrying bags of compost from Hart's Brook and then spreading them over the storm drains! The truth be told!

Now we come to one Jerry Cohen, a fierce foe of Feiner, who in a weak stage of grey cell meltdown, was deluded into an endorsement. The power of this Svengali must be immense! Even the power to cloud men's minds must take a back seat (maybe a rumble seat) to this new, modern day Merlin!

So while in a hypnotic stupor, worthy of Fu Manchu, Cohen was dragged semi-conscious to his trusty word processor, and slowly followed the orders of his "control," as the Queen of Diamonds was flashed before his limpid baby-blues!

"I, now in full and complete control of my faculties endorse Paul Feiner and his worthy team." Wasn't it just like Major Marko, telling, all who would listen, how heroic Sgt. Raymond Shaw was in action. In fact he loved Raymond Shaw!

"Paul Feiner is the greatest man I have ever know and the most dedicated public servant," echoed the poor delusional Jerry Cohen.

Of course for some reason, while under this blue miasmic mist of clouded thought, he made mention of the beloved Eddie Mae Barnes and her great service to the Parking Authority of Hartsdale. His last wish, before awakening back to reality, was to wish Ms. Barnes success in her retirement.

So we are back now into the early part of the first quarter of the 21st Century and Jerry Cohen is now fully awakened from his mystical trance. He remembers nothing, he has just left a black hole where time has ceased. He has some vague recollection of what has happened. But he has a sense of a profound change, and he now knows what that change was! He is voting for Paul Feiner and his slate.

The Son of the Shadow!

"this person" knows there are sound, rational, positive considerations for Edgemont to ponder if Edgemont REALLY wants to be fiscally and responsibly motivated.
"this person" would like to hear one logical reason why Edgemont would not consider changing its boundaries into Hartsdale or any other area.

"This person" doesn't buy into the "Greenburgh Central would never......(fill in the blanks)" as GC has as much say in the matter as Feiner has in Edgemonts matters. These are state matters.

So? What's causes your skin to blister at the thought of incorporating part of Hartsdale other than it's HARTSDALE?

If Feiner can have his "campaign" send out e-mails for him during the first night of Rosh Hashanah, which he says he did, then the Town Board can hold a pro forma meeting just as the secondday of Rosh Hashanah is coming to a close just to schedule a hearing on accepting grants for affordable housing.

Feiner is just pandering, and it's a desperate pander at that. Feiner's doing his best to end this campaign with the worst PR for himself anyone could imagine. He seems to be his own worst enemy in that dep't right now.

Anonymous said...

The entire Town Board is dysfunctional. If the voters really want change, then lets vote out Feiner, Bass and Barnes. Lets give Morgan, Brown and Berger a chance. Bass aad Barnes are useless. Bass has no integrity, and stands for nothing. Barnes is just there collecting a paycheck. Feiner is all about Feiner. If it benefits him, then he is all for it.

Dear Anon at 1:34,

I still dont know why you are linking having an Edgemont/Hartsdale Village, which all though theoretically possible, has issues, with having one school district.

In order to have one Village, there would have to be a vote of residents. Could happen.

In order to combine school districts, there would have to be be agreement by the Boards of Edgemont (wont happen), Greenburgh Central (wont happen, they dont want to lose tax money) and the State (wont happen, they have concerns about weakening school districts).

But if you want to pursue this, then what you have to do is first bring this before the two School Boards. No matter what Feiner promises you he cant help you. Even if you think he has influence with Greenburgh Central, see if he can and will help you.

All he wants to give you is his sympathetic nods, and say how outrageous Edgemont is. Go to GC and see what the Board says. Oh wait, Feiner doesnt want you to do that, because you will see then he cant or wont help you. Do you think he wants to upset the GC people?

Heah, but he does give you this blog.

This is about a Town that provides services -- from todays Journal News (sidewalks and preventive flood control)

In Chappaqua, a sidewalk changes lives

By ELIZABETH GANGA
THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: September 16, 2007)
CHAPPAQUA - You might not think it, but the new sidewalk on Quaker Street in Chappaqua can be a life-changing experience.

For one, it let the Vanderbilt family of Kipp Street buy a dog.

Because the Vanderbilts can now go out for daily walks, they were able to add a cockapoo named Biscuit to their family.

Kym Vanderbilt, her daughter, Ella, and son, Will, were walking - or scootering in Ella's case - into the hamlet with Biscuit on Friday on one of their excursions.

"It's unbelievable. It's fabulous. Really it's great," Kym Vanderbilt said. "We live on Kipp Street. It just has made a huge difference. We walk her to school. We got a dog."

The newly completed sidewalk, which runs from the bridge over the Saw Mill Parkway and the railroad tracks up to Marcourt Drive, promotes community, Vanderbilt said, because it allows children to walk to school together and has let her meet neighbors she never knew before. It also helps the children get more exercise.

"We moved up from the city, and that was one of the hardest things about living in the suburbs," Vanderbilt said.

The mile-long sidewalk on a previously dangerous stretch of road for pedestrians has been in the works for years. The finishing touches were put on over the past few months.

The final price tag was just under $2.5 million, up almost $1 million from earlier estimates in large part because of the need to build a pedestrian bridge by the Duck Pond and to do more drainage work than expected.

The town also folded in work to control the water level of a pond at Chappaqua Mountain Road that had caused flooding. A walk to dedicate the sidewalk is planned for October.

The sidewalk is part of a larger effort by New Castle to allow people to get out of their cars and walk around. In the late 1990s the town built a sidewalk connecting the two poles of Millwood and hopes in the future to connect the center of Millwood to Gedney Park along Route 120/133.

But the next sidewalk, already being designed, is planned for Route 117 from King Street south to Old Farm Road, at a cost of about $1.6 million. Later it could connect to a path through Greeley Woods back to the center of Chappaqua. The town plans to set up a meeting with residents soon.

"Loops and linkages, that's what we're trying to do," said Supervisor Janet Wells.

Wells said the Quaker Street sidewalk has been a big success, the kind of project people go out of their way to thank her for. And walkers and runners on Friday were all enthusiastic.

Therese Ciabattoni and her husband, Lou, had come over from their neighborhood with two out-of-town friends to try out the sidewalk.

"We live on the other side (of town) and we don't have one," said Ciabattoni, who lives near the Reader's Digest property on Route 117. She said she would advocate for a sidewalk in her area.

The town had planned a sidewalk for Route 117 north from King Street, but a few property owners wouldn't give easements, said Town Manager Gennaro Faiella.

Rich Patrick-Sternin was walking up from the hamlet with his 11-year-old son, Jackson, after dropping off his car to be inspected. It was Jackson's first time on the sidewalk, but Patrick-Sternin said he used it often as part of his running loop.

"I think it's really nice," Jackson said. "It's so much better than walking on the grass."

Patrick-Sternin, 38, who runs an employment agency for graphic artists and writers, said people drive like maniacs in the area.

"I wish they'd add a lot more sidewalk," he said.

Feiner and his supporters are desperately grasping at straws.

Berger had no reason to say anything. This was a pro forma meeting to set a hearing on whether to apply for a grant for affordable housing.

Bass said he had no objection to the meeting if that was its purpose.

The only person objecting was Feiner, who mistakenly thought the meeting was about something else -- the hiring of an Ethics Board lawyer to assist in the investigation of Feiner himself -- but Feiner never bothered even to ask his fellow board members what the meeting was really about.

But once Feiner objected, no matter what the reason, his fellow board members showed him the courtesy and respect that Feiner never shows them. They found a way to put the meeting off, and not risk losing the grant money.

One thing's for sure. If Feiner is re-elected, this sort of paranoid "issue a press release before talking to anyone" nonsense on Feiner's part is sure to continue. Meanwhile, Greenburgh's problems get worse and worse.

Dear anon 2:15,

Just for fun, If I were a betting man, I'd say my chances of getting the school district boundaries redefined are greater than getting Edgemont to incorporate.

What has it been now? 50+ years attempting to incorporate Edgemont? 20? 30? 10? eternal?

And why wouldn't Edgemont look to expand? You say Edgemont would never agree to it. Why? The chief complaint is that there is no more room for students. There are plenty of choice, build-able, properties in Edgemonts backyard. Also, G.Central has been talking about selling off property for years.

Do you think the state, not GC, wouldn't take a good hard look at the issue if the families paying 10's of millions of dollars to the GC SD, and not using it, complained of mismanagement? Do you think they do not have just cause?

Does anyone really believe that if Edgemont incorporates as it stands right now, space will just magically appear within it's boundaries? Do you really believe that despite all of the recent shenanigans, Edgemont citizens will continue their questionable land acquiring practices, to prevent any & all growth in student population?

If you had a thriving business and were looking to acquire office space, would you only acquire space enough for your current employees and sign a 20 year lease with no room for expansion? So, why would the good people of Edgemont sign on to incurring higher taxes with no room to add any expanded village services, parks, and admittedly, much needed classroom space.

This is really not my cause however, I bristle at the the "no way, no how" answers given to some valid questions posed here. Why hide behind these responses. If you mean to say "no way in hell are the people of Edgemont going to let outsiders in" then just say so.

I use GC as I am most familiar with it but I'm sure any surrounding area to Edgemont could and should be considered.

Dear Francis (aka 7:07 am)-

You're up early this morning.

Right here, right now enough with the foolishness.

Enough with the political garbage; save whatever opportunities for yourself and demonstrate whatever qualities I truly believe you may possibly have to add value to this community. You unfortunately have not been demonstrating them to date in many issues.

Tell us all now, that you disavow of the dirty politics and tactics being exhibited by Bass, Barnes & Berger.

We don't want to here "....well Paul does this and he did that, blah, blah, blah...."

After the general election, it is quite possible that you will be in the minority.

Show us who you can be, right now by disavowing the actions of the "True Democrats".

Thank you for the consideration.

The above blog comment is not accurate. On Wednesday I spoke to town officials who advised me that a meeting would be held on Rosh Hashanah, one of the most important Jewish holidays. I was also advised that the Ethics Bd lawyer could be hired during the special meeting. I sent two e mails to all the Town Board members requesting that the meeting be cancelled. At the end of the day I was told that the Board members had rejected my request and that the meeting would be held. I then sent out an e list advisory. After the Journal News ran a page one story (and after Bd members received complaints from the public) members of the Bd cancelled the meeting. The truth is this: There was never any need to hold this meeting. We were never in danger of losing grant funds. The neighborhood block parties were never in jeopardy of being cancelled.

Paul Feiner said...

One more comment--- It's very unfair for the Town Board to try to blame on Tim Lewis, our Town Attorney for the Rosh Hashanah meeting.

Anonymous said...

I believe Paul Feiner for two reason.

One, the Town Council makes it a practice to isolate him and to say NO to whatever he asks for.

Two, if their original reason was correct that last Friday was the last possible day, then they couldn't change the meeting date the moment the Journal News article appeared.

And it is cowardly, but typical, that Sheehan blames someone else, in this case the Town Attorney.

Anonymous said...

Sheehan's insensitivity toward Jews is obvious. His admission that Steve Bass was "excused" from the Roah Hashanah Meeting demonstrates his arrogance. Jews would not have been able to attend this supposed open/public hearing. Sheehan violated a two hundred and thirty one year old principle of this Country; namely. the ability to practice your religion with freedom. Sheehan disenfranchised Jews from attending this meeting. He VIOLATED their ability to practice their religion AND engage in our Town's Democratic Process. To add insult to injury, Sheehan's Ethics Board is set to hire an attorney who defended a client who calls for the destruction of Israel. The decision to hire this attorney COULD HAVE BEEN MADE at the Rosh Hashanah Meeting! I believe that people who care about religous freedoms in this Country need to come together and DEMAND THE RESIGNATION of Francis Sheehan. This insensitive despot has worn out his welcome in Greenburgh. His type of mentality should never be allowed on out Town Board or any Board ever again.

Anonymous said...

Sheehan whined like a baby when the Supervisor publicly called him disgraceful. Given the fallout from the Sheehan ordered Rosh Hashanah Meeting, the disgraceful monicker is not only warranted, it might not be enough to describe this horrible little man who wished he were king.

Question of the Day for Steve Bass:

We all know that a person should be judged more by their deeds, than by their words. It would be easy for us to imagine, that you, certainly among all politicos, truly in your heart believes that.

Candidate Berger has stated on multiple occasions, that should she lose the Democratic primary, she will run in the general election on the Independent line. That is certainly her right.

Unfortunately, as Chair of the Greenburgh Democratic Party, isn’t her responsibility to support the candidate chosen by the democratic taxpayers of Greenburgh in the primary election? Is this the type of leader that she will be if she were to become Supervisor of Greenburgh? I can see you personally having problems with a town and party official behaving like that (the deeds).

Your incumbent running mate for the town board campaign materials states frequent references to who are the true democrats. What are we the community to take to understand, if the actions of the head of the Greenburgh democratic party were to act in such an inappropriate manner? Is this an indication how she would represent our community? You, yourself, would likely say that it would indeed be dishonest.

Would you consider offering a resolution that Mrs. Berger should respect the wishes of the Greenburgh democratic taxpayers? She should either not run in the general election, should she not win the democratic nomination or resign her chairpersonship and allow someone at the helm of the Greenburgh Democratic organization who will support the general election democratic party candidates in a consistent fiscal manner as the candidates chosen by the district leaders for the primaries received?

PS – Does Eddie Mae know that it’s time to go?

Anonymous said...

Oh Paul how clever, you say that Town Officials stated that there would be a meeting. Then you go on to say that you were informed that an attorney "could be hired". Not would be. And you dont say who informed you. More half-truths.

Feiner's comments this morning are disingenuous and demonstrate more clearly than ever why town government is so dysfunctional.

He blew off Tuesday's work session, never once showing up or even calling to say he wouldn't be there. He's the only full-time elected official we have, but he's never bothered to tell us why he wasn't there either.

Here's the reason. So many Town Hall employees and residents saw the huge tantrum Feiner threw that day, it's hard to keep it a secret. Feiner was upset by the disclosure that Morgan was supporting an anti-choice Republican for county judge, and never told him. But instead of blaming Morgan, Feiner was so paranoid he blamed the town board, calling them all "scumbags" through the hallways, as if what Morgan did was somehow their fault.

Feiner then thought he'd make better use of his time if he went over to the Scarsdale Inquirer offices and did his bitching there. Like anyone cared. Certainly no one from the Inquirer cared.

When he received notice on Wednesday that a special meeting was scheduled for Friday, he never once picked up the phone and asked his fellow town board members what was up. Common courtesy isn't in his playbook. He's made that abundantly clear.

Instead, by his own admission, he sends out e-mails protesting the meeting. Someone should FOIL those e-mails and the responses Feiner got.

Feiner then makes matters worse. He says he was "advised" that the Ethics Board lawyer could be hired during the special meeting. But Feiner doesn't say who "advised" him of this. Was it his campaign manager Garfunkel, perhaps? Or maybe it was his campaign contributor Ethics Chair Mike Sigal? Regardless, it obviously wasn't any member of the town board who never discussed the matter at its session on Tuesday which Feiner blew off. It certainly couldn't have been anyone from the town board since it's clear Feiner's not talking to them.

So now, when Feiner's town board colleagues show him the respect and courtesy that he never shows them by finding a way to put off the meeting (and not jeopardizing the receipt of state grants for affordable housing), what does Feiner do?

He doesn't say thanks. Instead, Feiner says the town board unfairly blamed Tim Lewis for giving erroneous legal advice as to when the town board meeting had to be held.

Again, how would Feiner have known one way or the other? Feiner wouldn't have known what advice Lewis had given at the Tuesday work session because Feiner thought it was more important for him to throw a rant over in Scarsdale at the Inquirer's office.

This entire episode demonstrates why Feiner himself remains the problem that Greenburgh needs to get solved. He is the mess that needs to be cleaned up.

It is fascinating the stony silence we hear from Ms. Suzanne Berger Jones. Maybe she felt because her children are her husband's and their name is Jones, that the High Holidays are a thing to brush off. Well, because of recent Jewish history, most G-d fearing Jews don't like to see their Holidays abused or trashed. It is interesting that many school systems, with small or virtually no Jewish enrollment, have the High Holidays off because their faculty has an inordinate amount of Jewish teachers. So they understand that their fellow colleagues are due the respect of a day of prayer, introspection and family. In our Judeao-Christian traditions that have guided America, this is usually understood. But Berger-Jones is silent!

The Town Board seems to feel differently. Feiner just spelled out the meaningless and the offensiveness of this scheduled meeting. It was hastilly put on the calendar to embarrass Feiner. In fact, if the meeting were to be allowed, other proposals would have been brought up for votes. This action seems to any fair observer to be a cyncial and callous move.

The Board has often isolated Feiner and it seems that their only spokemsan is Francis Sheehan, who lurks over the town like a dark cloud.

Berger-Jones's literature only stresses the negative, She has hit Feiner at every opportunity. But her shallow record cannot be ignored. She is not a partner of her firm, she was defeated for Town Justice of Dobbs Ferry, where she served as the Party Chair up until 2002 and has manipulated the Greenburgh Party since 2002. In 2005 she allowed her buddies to harrass Feiner when he tried to speak in front of the Executive Committee, and her hand-maiden friend, Plaskett, had her husband physically threaten to assault Feiner. She talks of bringing unity to Greenburgh. Her election would only bring dictatorship to Town Hall, directed by her Prime Minister and eventual successor Francis Sheehan.

If you want this to happen then vote for her and her rubber stamps. If you want the people to reign and be heard, vote for Feiner-Morgan and Brown.

Bernstein has distinguished himnself, or rather undistinguished himself, by inventing trash stories that are so bizarre that many people believe them because they cannot imagine that such things can be made up. But that is Bernstein's cleverness. He plays people with such stuff.

It is hard to beieve that the poster who told the ludicrous story at 9:44 A.M. is not Bernstein, If it is not, it is one of his band of clones, it is so Bernstein.

Has anyone ever heard Feiner use cursewords, much less a word like "scumbag?" I doubt that Feiner ever used such a word. And that sounds as false as the rest of the tale.

We have seen lies told by the Bernstein-Berger-Bass-Barnes forces in their literature throughout this campaign, and especially in the last few days when there is no time to answer them. If for no other reason than to get rid of these political gangsters it is important to vote for Feiner and his running mates. There are other reasons as well, but I fear for Greenburgh if the bunch of political gangsters take over control of the town.

Berger needs to be called out on whether or not she supported the Rosh Hashanah Meeting. We already know that Steve Bass submitted to Sheehan's orders, thus guaranteeing that his fellow Jews would have no input whatsoever at this meeting. This meeting also allowed for the REAL POSSIBILITY that a defense attorney who defended a client committed to the death of Jews would be hired and paid by taxpayer money! Eddie Mae is, well, she's Eddie Mae. She has been clueless for years.

Given Sheehan's obvious insensitivity toward Jews, did Sheehan purposely desire the meeting held on Rosh Hashanah with the INTENT of hiring this despicable attorney KNOWING that NO members of the Jewish Faith would be there to protest?????

I don't know who wrote the blog entry at 9:44 about Feiner throwing a tantrum, calling his fellow town board members "scumbags," boycotting the work session, and then storming off to rant at the Inquirer. However, that letter from Ella Preiser sure makes it sound like that's exactly what happened.

She writes that Feiner "has resorted to name calling when he disagrees and walked out of work sessions. . . He then complains when decisions are made in his absence."

Sounds like what happened this week.

How could you accuse Feiner of using the words that a low life like you uses in your everyday life. Whether at work or at home.
In all the years that I have know Feiner I have never heard him utter a gutter word as you claim.
Another thing about him cursing Morgan ,come on ,could you not say something different, boy could you lie.
Let's face it,you're lacking the special qualities that are necessary to be a man.
Once you come from the gutter you could never change. To bad there's more to life, where you could get more accomplished with honey, but you will never understand this.
You don't like Feiner but saying that he was like a raving maniac walking up and down at town hall yelling gutter language.doesn't change the fact that he will be the winner in the November Election.
The next time come up with a better story, since the man is not one to use this type of language, his parents raised him in the right manner, not saying to much about you.

In case Mr. Feiner missed it on another topic - here's something which deserves his consideration - and an answer:
Anonymous says...
"If he is truly interested in conservation, the Supervisor could re-invigorate the initiative to include the requirement that commercial developments meet the EnergyStar standards.
A simple one sentence amendment to the Town's Building Code could make it happen - with only 3 votes necessary.
Mr. Feiner - take the pledge: "If my team and I are elected, we will amend the Town Building code to mandate EnergyStar compliance at our first meeting."
Simple, unequivocal and truly a first.
How about it?"
Why not Mr Feiner?

Some observations on recent postings.

Whew! Finally finished Mr. Sheehan's "explanation" of why the Town Board Special Meeting was scheduled for the Rosh, day 2.

Mr. Sheehan, Town Board meetings are not like "school" in which you need a note from your parents or doctor explaining why you were absent from class.

Just because your own religious beliefs allow you to support pro-choice, that does not mean that everyone else follows their choice of religion as casually. For the record, I am not a strict practioner of my own religious beliefs. However, as for Steve Bass, who well might be, I defend his right, or anyone's right, to observe their religious traditions especially on what are known to Jews as "the High Holy Days". Thus, there was no need for Mr. Bass to be "excused" from a meeting which never should have been scheduled in the first place or for any other member to be "excused" for their absence. His and all Town Board members meeting attendance records are available for voter scrutiny.

What it does point out is that if the Town Board does not deal with matters expeditiously, then Greenburgh will always be acting defensively, out of a need to rush. Therefore, if Feiner is to be accused of not attending meetings or working with the Town Council, then it follows that the Town Council learn to carry the ball better when knowing this. However I do not subscribe to the charges that Feiner doesn't care or doesn't attend.

It has long been known that the Town Board work sessions are scheduled at a time which is convenient to the members of the Town Council who hold daytime jobs elsewhere. The Town Supervisor and the heads of the Town Departments are available throughout the day for such a meeting(s) and it is only to accommodate the Town Council members that they are held in the late afternoon and early evening on Tuesdays causing those Town employees who are needed at these meetings to stay later than necessary. One (Mr. Sheehan) who professes such concern for the hard working staff members could alleviate both "problems" by having the meetings scheduled to start in the morning or early afternoon and thus the Town Supervisor and the staff would be able to leave without creating any difficulties.
Or, ignoring the plight of the Town staff, these meetings could be scheduled on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm and thereby causing no hardship for the Town Supervisor or the Public desirous of attending.
During the school year, it has been a decision/obligation of Feiner to pick up his daughter from school on Tuesdays. Thus he leaves the meeting early (still after normal business hours) for that purpose. It is known to all the members of the Town Council and they have from time to time taken advantage of his absence to discuss important Town business at a time when they know he will not be present. This is taking advantage of a situation that they themselves are partly to blame for: causing the meeting to be held when Feiner is going to be away. And even this would be tolerable if the Town Council did not try to profit from the situation by making a big deal out this, by using it as a part of their ongoing public relations program against Feiner.

The Town Board work sessions (Tuesdays) and the Special Town Board meetings (whenever) are not consistently scheduled at the same starting time. Nor do all of the Town Council members arrive promptly at the scheduled time. Perhaps if the meetings started as scheduled they would be further along or finished when Feiner has to leave.

However the point is that the public is told that the reason that the Agenda of the work session cannot be posted earlier than noon of the day of the work session (meetings have been scheduled for 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00 and later) is that the Agenda is not yet locked. Thus the public, including those that work in the City, has limited choices and time frame in deciding to attend. And there is the tag line "and any other business..." to contend with. Thus not even the Town Board knows until the "last minute" what is being scheduled. This I attribute to Mr.
Kaminer's lack of license to pull the elements together in a more timely manner. Finally, due to the decision not to televise these work sessions, the minutes of the meeting are taken by the Town Clerk and should be available on an archived basis.

With that Sheehan style background, let me now address the buzz that the Friday meeting was supposed to include the hiring of the outside Counsel for the Ethics Board. This was not mere rumor or idle electioneering by Feiner. At the previous Friday September 7 meeting of the Ethics Board, the Ethics Board backed off any serious discussion of matters because the Town Board had not already met to hire such Counsel. Mr. Kaminer attended this meeting as the representative of the Town Council. The message sent to the Town Board was that no deliberations without representation. You (Town Board) want us to go forward; you take the first step and hire our attorney. This confirmed my earlier suspicions that the Ethics Board and the Ethics laws were rushed solely to create news stories, not to judge cases. On the Feiner blog on the home page under the Ethics Board topic, see my comments 9/8/07 at 10:26 pm and you can see from my posting that there was clearly some discussion and consideration about urging the Town Board to commit to hiring an attorney and that it was a legitimate assumption that such would be included in the subsequent Special meeting proposed for this past Friday.
Thus Feiner did not create an issue where none existed.

Everything you need to know about
the "I'm not Feiner" campaign.

Ella Presider = Francis Sheehan = Ella Preiser + Carol Wielk + Madelon O'Shea = Grassroots for Greenburgh = Council of Greenburgh Civic Associations x the square root of Lorrin Brown.

175% Bob Bernstein + Michelle McNally + .25% Jim Lasser = Edgemont - 1,675 Edgemont residents.

Democratic Party endorsements =
Party Chair Berger controlling disposition of Party funds + Party support for accrued signature gathering, mailings, sign posting - support of future campaings + recommendation for job openings - postponed payback.

Party machinery = one hand washes the other.

Suzanne Berger = the number of issues she has taken a stand on, minus the number of solutions she has proposed x the number of unresolved ethics violations in her campaign. To this subtotal, subtract 100 for taking advantage of her position as Party Chair and subtract another 500 for her raping of the National Democratic Party platform.

Eddie Mae Barnes = .50% Steve Bass x .25% Suzanne Berger + 100%affordable housing Edgemont residents x the number of housing meetings she attended before the Primary.

Steve Bass = Catherine Plaskett + Suzanne Berger + Bob Bernstein + Michelle McNally - the number of offices he has sought and abandoned + the number of knives for stabbing he carries.

Alfreda Williams = full time Town Clerk position minus 50% for attendance, 35% for not following NYS FOIL laws, 15% for no cablevision renewal contract and another 15% for taking full credit for grant appropriations. If the result is a negative number, then this should be a clue to voters.

Francis Sheehan = Francis Sheehan (squared)

Real Democrats = the number of 100% Pro Choice candidates divided by the number of lies regarding who is and who is not; x the number of times this preference will concern the Town Board.

THE BANKRUPT CAMPAIGN OF THE BERGER=BERNSTEIN-BASS-BARNES AXIS! THE BIG LIE, REPEAT IT OFTEN AND LOUDLY!

Note their campaign lies and rhetoric!

The Democratic All-Star team piece (paid for by the contributions of Democrats, who had no choice regarding its publication.)

They are pro-choice-

So is Paul Feiner and his great slate! Is that a real issue?

They are for affordable health care-

But they oppose the Health Clinic for low- income people!

They are fiscally responsible!

But they gave a no-bid contract to the law firm of Town Democratic Party Head, Suzanne Berger.

They are focused on education!-

What has Bass and Barnes done about Central 7 in their time in office? Where is evidence of their actions? They were opposed to funding the Central 7's recreation center.

They are focused on safety and our quality of life!

But the Board met in a secret and illegal session to plan for the clandestine transfer of valuable land to Robert Bernstein, whos plan was to use it for a Village Hall in Edgemont. The consequences, de-funding much of the Young Center's budget! In other words, whose quality of life?

Stop Him Now! (Paid for by Friends of Suzanne Berger, mostly her colleagues at Bryan, Cave)

Unaccountable slush funds!

Where did that silliness come from? Another outright lie, every nickel and penny accounted for by the Board!

Costly unnecessary court battles!

Just ask Robert Bernstein, her ally, about suits against Greenburgh! He's basically responsible!

Short-sighted budgeting!

The insurance, which was carried, was in line with all the other comparable communities and approved by the whole Board, without dissent. No accident had happened like that in decades. One can always pay more and more for insurance, there is no limit on premiums.

Desperate to Hold Power!

Feiner is accountable to the people, under the law and stands for election every two years. Berger engineered her own nomination against Bill Greenawalt. Almost half the Democratic Town committee supported him, and many are not supporting her. Where is the Greenawalt endorsement?

Vote NO on Paul Feiner, he's been in office too long.

Edie Mae Barnes has been in office as long, and her record is pathetic. She has initiated little over the years. She has raised zero funds for her race, it has been completely financed by her benefactor Steve Bass, and he was appointed and never really elected. She(Berger)supported Diane Juettner, who has been in office for the same time as Feiner and she has been silent on the Board for the last two years! In fact, Berger has been Party Chair to long! Resign!

Vote NO on Morgan and Brown, (Paid for by Friends of Steve Bass)

They are not 100% pro-choice!

Another repeat of the 2005 lie crafted by Plaskett along with her constant abuse of her position. Polly Rothstein, founder of the WCLA twice, has rebuffed her twice, 2005 and 2007!! What else is new!

They are not 100% against Indian Point!

Another baseless lie, their positions were well known in 2005 and today.

They are not 100% committed to Democrats!

Suzanne Berger, Chairperson of the Greenburgh Democratic Party, said, "She will not support the winner of the Primary, and will run on other lines." One of those lines are of the notorious Independence Party, home of the virulent anti-Semite Lenora Fulani and Marxist Fred Newman. It is a party controlled and purchased by the highest bidder, lately billionaire Mike Bloomberg, who forked over millions for their empty line.

Sonja Brown tried to line her own pockets with $30,000 of our tax dollars!

Another fabrication by the "Dreamworks Team!" Sonja Brown came up with a great idea to help minority children compete for expensive college slots by building an SAT camp. Bass and Barnes didn't like her, so they quashed her proposal. It was a great idea and when Morgan and Brown are elected it will be enacted. It seems these so-called "real" Democrats don't want to help the people who most need a level playing field.

Kevin Morgan will give developers a blank check!

Kevin is called a developer (six houses re-habilitated in eleven years!) and is in the pocket of the "big bad wolf!" Another lie! Kevin has been a great watchdog on the Planning Board. Check his record! The libelous canard was addressed in the 2005 Fair Campaign Practices ruling. Read it and weep!

Greenburgh's Town Government is now cleaner than ever!

Bass and Barnes rushed through a "loophole ridden" Swiss Cheese bill, with no regards to how challengers' races are funded. In other words, an incumbant cannot take any money from a developer, or a lawyer who may represent developers, etc. But the Democratic Party can take unlimited funds from those same folks and funnel them to their favorite challengers. Note, Berger's campaign was highly funded by her friends and benefactors at Bryan, Cave, (her emplyer) the beneficiary of a no-bid sweetheart contract with the Town, engineered by her ally Francis Sheehan. Also note, that the Greenburgh Democratic Party is unethically funding her own abortive campaign. Talk about conflicts of interest and so-called clean government!

In other words, piece after piece, baseless and slanderous lies

I do not think this pastor knows too much about his parishoner Sheehan.

Typical Sheehan. Hiding behind the robes of his parish priest!!!! Sheehan is a coward.

"Why didn't Suzanne speak out against the Rosh Hashanah Meeting?"

Like most of us, I assume she saw that Feiner was over-reacting. She likely understood that it didn't matter if the meeting was held on Rosh Hashanah. The content of the meeting would have been quite simple, just requiring three signatures.

Garfunkel is lying about Polly Rothstein and Morgan. Rothstein was outraged when she found out that Morgan had carried petitions this summer to put a Republican anti-choice judge on the Democratic ballot.

In an email to Morgan that Rothstein sent on September 12, 2007 at 8:45 a.m., Rothstein said, "Now I find out that you carried petitions for Charles Devlin, who opposes Roe and abortion rights. I know as of last night that this was used against you in a brochure. Kevin, what were you thinking?? That's an over anti-abortion action you took, very unwisely I'd say, setting yourself up for your opponents' attack on the abortion issue."

"It also puts me in a bad position, looking foolish and used, having publicly supported you last year. I thought I could count on you in the future."

Polly

If Garfunkel lied about Rothstein's position on Morgan and choice, you can be sure he and Feiner are lying about everything else in this campaign too.

Is there more to Bernstein's silence re Berger than meets the ear?

We know he is feuding with Feiner. The problem is that voters dislke Bernstein too, but not nearly as much as they fear and mistrust Sheehan. So far Sheehan has given them just cause for this opinion.

So what holds Bernstein back? Is it his mistrust of Sheehan as well?
Is it his insider's view that a vote for Berger means a vote for Sheehan. Does he too recognize that she will not serve out her full term? And that Sheehan will inherit her title when she leaves for "unexpected" greener pastures.

We suspect that Bob can't be very happy about Bass either, would you lend your car to Steve? He has a tendency to drive too close to the drivers in the lead. And this is particularly dangerous when there is, as there is now, traffic in front all the way to his final destination.

It can't be that Bernstein has tired of the picador's role and has left the arena charging Berger to go for the kill. Isn't that how "bull"fights are won?

Does he think that being identified as supporting Berger will hurt her chances?

Or has he realized that just getting rid of Feiner doesn't make his life any better. Has he realized that replacing Feiner with
Berger is not going to help Edgemont and that Eddie Mae for another four years just isn't the
secret weapon that he needs.

Or is he on the sidelines because he has made some mistakes that are going to haunt him personally in the months ahead and that Berger, Sheehan and the rest of the Town Council won't be able to put Bernstein back together again after his fall.

Sending his aide de "kamp", Michelle McNally, to talk up Berger in the Inquirer, doesn't get the message much beyond the home team bench.

As for the rest of us, we have looked in vain to find what makes Suzanne Berger run. She just isn't there which is not unlikely for someone who has no idea of issues beyond her immediate part of town. In fact, the lingering reality of this campaign is that Berger has not found any stump stalking support from any of those famed Democrats, even including those assumed to be on her team, Barnes and Bass.

All of those great Democrats from elsewhere, including the County and the State, just haven't committed themselves beyond lending their name. Perhaps they fear Democrat Party backlash or just don't like the bill of goods that they initially bought into.
Perhaps they want to hedge their bet against the fallout coming in November, if September buys them even those extra months.

Certainly the Berger campaign has little to be proud of and has even blurred the opening gambit; that she's not Feiner. The little of Berger, that the Primary race exposed, turned out not to be a pretty picture.

But most of all, the realization that, given her lack of experience, she would have to rely on an all too willing Francis Sheehan is enough to give even her early backers pause.

Cutting to the chase and eliminating the middle woman: Is Sheehan the person that should be be filling the position of Town Supervisor? Whatever your opinion of Feiner, 16 years in the making, there is no sorrier alternative waiting in the wings than Sheehan. And a vote for Berger today makes this a nail-biting probability the day after.

Despite all the pre-Primary headlines and subsequent retrenchments. I'll wager that comparing Greenburgh today to Greenburgh 16 years ago, that things have measurably improved.
The only broken dreams remain in areas like construction of new sidewalks. And it was almost exactly a year ago that the Town Council rejected the Supervisor's plan; a year later they still haven't submitted their own. But the Town Council hasn't been idle; they have set up criteria for what may be sent out over the Town's email system and they have opposed an SAT camp.
Can't anyone see what is holding Greenburgh back?
The Town needs Feiner and he, in turn, needs two more votes on the Town Board. Three votes gets things done not debated to death.
Elect Feiner, Brown and Morgan and for good measure, let's get rid of tired Alfreda and bring in Judy.

Vote to send the opposing four B's back to minding their own beeswax.

Bewitched, bothersome, bewildered and begone.

And separately this observation.
Under the new Ethics laws, not only can contributions by, say developers, to a political party be used to launder money to individual candidates but it is also my conclusion that the same developer could make a contribution to the campaign of say, a State legislator, who then in turn could draw upon these "washed" funds by passing them back to a local candidate.

Possible?
Edorsable?
Certainly not the death of pay to play. Check it out, Mr. Bass.
Is it 100% the Democratic way?

Poor Samis. He's so self-absorbed he hasn't figured out that Edgemont Democrats who vote in the primary don't need to read a letter from Bernstein in the Scarsdale Inquirer to know whom Bernstein is supporting.

For one thing, Feiner's been telling Edgemont residents for months in print and in those televised debates that Bernstein supports Berger, Bass and Barnes. Edgemont Dems who already don't think much of Feiner would find that message very helpful.

Edgemont Democrats also know that the Feiner slate's campaign manager is the same Edgemont resident who worked with Feiner two years ago to try to defeat Edgemont's school budget. Edgemont Dems came out in droves when they found out that Feiner and his operatives were behind the effort to defeat the Edgemont budget -- and the budget was passed by well over a thousand votes.

So it was a terrific move on Feiner's part to identify Don Siegel as "campaign manager" on one of his mailers. Edgemont Dems don't soon forget those who tried so hard to destroy their school district.

Could someone state where and when did Greenburgh town officials go into the abortion business.
What difference does it make if someone get petitions for some one who is for abortion.
How many of you say that you support abortion but yet when you have to talk about it one has to think about it.
Most of the people in office who attack others on this topic are hipocrites.
They speak one way and vote in another.
Abortion has no position for this town board.
The Berger slate and their inside workers have not one leg to stand on,so they choose the abortion way to try to win votes.
Please the true domcrates have brains, and I feel insulted by the garbage that the Berger team is sending out.I will make it known that no one from that party call me on the phone asking for my vote.
I have a choice to choose without coaching or reading the garbage that I have received that contains all lies.
The Berger team has lost big time. Please do not try again because you are not fit for the job of supervisor or the town council.
HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY.

Wait a minute EdgemontYou speak of the democrates in your area who voted against Feiner when it came to the school budget.
Well now you have a person at the head of the line who has disrupted the whole Greenburgh town.
The residents of Greenburgh have been telling you about your crooked civic leaders for a few months, and they endorse someone who will be in office a short time, and the reigns will be given over to Sheehan.
Do you think that you would be better off with Sheenan, and Bernstein pulling all the punches. I don't think so.
Give the slate of Feiner, morgan and Brown a chance.Let's see if they make the change to give us back town hall and open government..

Since the person who offered up the email from Polly Rothstein refused to sign the statement, it is hard to take it seriously. I am not a supporter of Judge Devlin, and our campaign has not endorsed him. Kevin Morgan carried his petitions, did not know his stance on choice, and Devlin himself, has not articulated that position. Devlin is a life-long Democrat and has the backing of many good Democrats. Catheriner Lederer-Plaskett has abused her position time and again. She did it with many other candidates other than Morgan, Dengler, and Brown. She plays her little game and none of these candidates is interviewed or vetted. She is just a political power-broker who endorsed Spano over Cousins because she went with who she felt would win and add to her power base.

For better or worse, both Devlin and Dengler in 2005 didn't buy into her strategy. I cannot speak or testify about Devlin, but his position was articulated by a Democratic DL in this email below

I just spoke to Charlie Devlin on the telephone. What Catherine Plaskett did to him is reprehensible. He told her that he would not be interviewed on the subject and that he would not accept WCLA's endorsement because he would not accept the endorsement of any organization that takes a position on any public policy. He believes such activity compromises his integrity and independence as a judge. Most importantly, he also told her that he refused to be interviewed and accept the endorsement of the Right to Life Party as well.

In fact, in 2005 and 2006, the Right to Life Party ran someone against Judge Devlin - and they have nominated someone to run against him again, this time as well.

Catherine Plaskett took that answer and published that he was "anti-choice" in the WCLA brochure. Her defense of this position? That he never refuted it publicly. He said that he had never even seen their brochure - clearly they did not send him a copy and ask him to proof it for accuracy - and if he did see it, where exactly would a judge make such a refutation?

So the accusations in the Bass/Barnes flyer that Judge Devlin wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and whatever other claptrap it stated - is a gross distortion of a bald faced lie. Frankly, I think this is libel - but at a minimum, it is unethical and very very disturbing.

(I cannot reveal her name w/o her permission!)

Below is a letter from Allegra Dengler- regarding this entrapment by PLaskett.

Fellow Democrats and neighbors-

RE: Greenburgh Town Council race

I was very dismayed to see a virtual copy of the mailing the Greenburgh Town council candidates ran two years ago when they used the issue of choice to defeat me and my running mate Kevin Morgan, despite the fact that both of us are pro-choice. After the campaign, too late to undo the damage, our complaint was heard by the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Board and their literature was found to be unfair.

This year Steve Bass and Eddie Mae Barnes have used virtually the same copy over again in an ad against Kevin Morgan and Sonja Brown, both of whom are prochoice. It was unfair two years ago and it's still unfair.

I didn*t appreciate being *swift-boated* by my own party, and I am dismayed that the people that did that to Kevin and me two years ago are at it again. This type of campaigning doesn*t belong in our
party or our country.

What good does it do to have a Fair Campaign Practices Board if candidates ignore it and go on and do the same thing again? Two years ago I introduced to the Greenburgh Democratic Committee ideas for the party to put sanctions on any of its candidates that violate the standards of fair campaigns. That idea was killed by Suzanne Berger and Steve Bass and Francis Sheehan and the people who are behind this new ad.

If they lie to you during an election, what chance is there that they will be ethical in dealing with the public once they are in office? I hope you will all join me in voting for Paul Feiner, Kevin Morgan, Sonja Brown and Judith Beville so that we can defeat this unethical element of local politics that will say and do anything to get elected. We need to move on with people dedicated to public service, not politics.

Allegra

Opponents assail Greenburgh incumbents' flier as 'lies'
By REBECCA BAKER
THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: September 13, 2007)

GREENBURGH - A controversial campaign flier from two Town Board members running in Tuesday's Democratic primary is being decried as an unfair, unethical and untrue smear tactic.

The flier, sent by Steve Bass and Eddie Mae Barnes this week, accuses opponents Kevin Morgan and Sonja Brown of not being "real Democrats," saying they do not support abortion rights or oppose closing the Indian Point nuclear power plant "100 percent."

Morgan said the accusations are "outright lies," and that he and Brown fully support abortion rights as well as the closing of Indian Point.

"Don't you just love politics in Greenburgh?" he asked. "I'm disgusted."

The four candidates are running for two Town Board seats. Morgan and Brown are on a slate with eight-term Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner. Bass and Barnes, however, are running with Feiner's challenger, Suzanne Berger, the chairwoman of the Greenburgh Democratic Committee.

The flier features a close-up of a woman's face on one side of the
mailing with the words, "If you care about a woman's right to choose, vote NO on Kevin Morgan and Sonja Brown."

Bass stands behind the flier, saying Morgan put his position on
abortion in question when he passed around a petition for Charles Devlin, who has run for office previously as a Republican but who is running in the Democratic primary for Westchester County Family Court
judge this year.

"A Democratic candidate for public office helped put an anti-choice,
conservative judge on the Democratic line," Bass said. "I think it's something voters would want to know."

Morgan said he had no idea that Devlin was a Republican when Devlin asked him to collect signatures to help him get on the Democratic ballot.

"I knew him to be a fair judge," he said. "I believed him to be a
Democrat. I didn't think to ask him about his views on abortion."

Devlin said he has refused endorsements from abortion rights groups and abortion opponents and has never stated his position on abortion publicly or privately.

"If anyone says otherwise - I hate to be blunt - they are lying," he
said.

Bass and Barnes attributed Devlin's positions to a voters guide published by the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion.

The guide said that Devlin was "anti-choice" but the flier contended Devlin wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade and activate total abortion bans - positions not mentioned in the WCLA voters guide.

WCLA President Catherine Lederer-Plaskett said Devlin told her his
position on abortion in 2005 - which Devlin denies.

She said Devlin never refuted WCLA's description of his stance until now, when he's running as a Democrat.

WCLA founder Polly Rothstein said Morgan made a "major mistake" by
not checking Devlin's political history before supporting him, but also said Bass and Barnes are abusing the abortion rights issue for political gain.

"I totally deplore a flier like this," she said. "This is outrageous. It's nonsense. Kevin is very pro-choice."

In addition to questioning their stances on abortion and Indian
Point, the incumbents' flier also questioned whether Brown was a
"real Democrat" because she has not voted in a Democratic primary in at least 10 years. Brown could not be reached for comment yesterday.

But an outraged Feiner sent a mass e-mail yesterday blasting the
"disturbing and false mailing" about his running mates.

"This is political sleeze (sic) - dirty politics at its worst," he said.

THAT IS THE FULL STORY! nOT THE PIECE OUR ANONYMOUS FRIEND SNIPPED OOUT! BY THE WAY, DEVLIN IS A LIFE-LONG REGISTERED DEMOCRAT!

I sign my name to these pieces not like the slime-balls that attack me and whom I support.

You asked whether Feiner and I lie? Well the proof is in the pudding. Polly Rothstein understood the situation and also understood Plaskett's penchant for distortion for her own prejudicial gain. She has abused her position time and again. The support for WCLA will certainly suffer the longer she abuses its message and worthy goals. No one I know and support challenges the right of "choice," but they challenge the authenticity of a political operative who will stoop to sleaze and lies to gain her personal objectives.

If Edgemont is coming out in droves, it is a fitting term for a flock or herd being driven in a body by their very own marlboro man.
Bernstein has never appeared so tall as when he sits on his own high horse, even if it is only a wooden one.

However, when the trojan brand (for all you 100% choicers) of horse pulls up to the Edgemont polls, the horse will arrive empty. This is an election for Town Supervisor, not a matter concerning the School system.

And Bernstein did start out preaching the gospel of Bernstein including Berger but at some point, he pulled back. I'm not saying that when he gets into the booth that he is not going to pull the Berger lever, just that he has been absent, of late, from
trumpeting his support for her.
It is my opinion that he now recognizes that his plan was the classic junta denouement, from the frying pan into the fire.

And without Feiner around to kick, what would become of Bernstein?

It may look from afar that he has the stomach to take on Sheehan but I doubt that he has the _ _ _ _ _.

Women especially are outraged.

Never again will we let Feiner and his cronies lie to us like they have.

And would someone please tell the soon-to-retired from politics Garfunkel that Devlin is a life-long REPUBLICAN. Greenburgh Dems all received a flier last week from Reggie Lafayette, the county's DEM party chair, telling us that Devlin is indeed an anti-choice REPUBLICAN who is trying to get the Democratic nomination too this year.

POLLY ROTHSTEIN has written a letter confirming the fact that Kevin Morgan is pro choice. The letter is being circulated and was written today. If Kevin Morgan, Sonja Brown, Judith Beville and Paul Feiner win the primary a major reason will be because of the nasty, ugly campaign being run by Berger/Bass/Barnes. Many Democrats are voting for the entire Feiner team. That includes people who previously had planned to vote for Feiner, Bass & Barnes. We understand how ugly the anti Feiner-ites have been getting. SONJA BROWN & KEVIN MORGAN can help Paul Feiner do some great things for the town. JUDITH BEVILLE seems to have the support of Feiner and the Bass/Barnes campaign. No one is promoting Williams.

Dear Anon 7:39,

How offensive!

What are you suggesting when you say "Does Sacred Heart have any petitions pending before the town?
That a whole religious community be held accountable for its naive leader (a good man) and be punished because of of the ignorant actions of one of its fellow members?

You are a DOLT. The whole point is that we should respect others religious beliefs.

And for the record.....That good man has forgiven many of the towns transgressions. Perfect example:

That monstrous new MULTIPLE dwelling being erected on Wilson St., next to the school yard.

Despite numerous complaints to the town by members of the community the pastor doesnt want to make waves because "the owner seems like a very nice man"

Now....EVERYONE at town hall is aware that the house is not in compliance with any approved plans and the TOWN has taken advantage of the good Pastors attitude to want to be a peaceful man.

I assure you that the Town is very happy with the Pastor. I however, am outraged.

The structure, not in compliance on so many levels, is available for all to see from Central Ave. It is flagrantly displayed. Take a look next time your on Central. You can't miss it. The elevator tower is interesting!

This is a perfect example at corruption at it's best and Sheehan & the entire gang are WELL aware of it.

I just hope that Bernstein has been taken aback by the fact that Sheehan ordered a meeting held on Rosh Hashanah and then had the audacity to excuse Steve Bass from it. I also hope he speaks out AGAINST the hiring of an attorney who defended a client who is committed to the destruction of Israel and the death of Jews.

The priest should stay out of Town politics, plain and simple. The priest should not call for you parisheners to support Sheehan when Sheehan has demonstrated a clear cut insensitivity toward members of the Jewish faith. As a parishiner, you should ask your priest if it is a good thing to support Sheehan when he ordered Gil Kaminer to threaten a women and interefere with her first amendment rights. You should ask your priest if it is a good thing to support Sheehan when he broke the law by ordering a change in the Zoning Map without following stated Town procedures. You should ask your priest if it is a good thing to support Sheehan when he violated New York State's Open Meetings Law by meeting with the Troy's in Harrison. Just because Sheehan is a parishener of Sacred Heart Church, that should not give him a free pass to threaten people and break laws. This is why your priest needs to stay out of politics.

Since you now clearly indicate that you believe that the priest should stay out of Town politics, there obviously is no need to ask him those questions. However, if I were a parishiner of Sacred Heart Church, I would make the priest very aware of the evil things that Francis Sheehan has done in a relatively short period of time.

Has the Feiner sign thief been arrested yet????

The only thing I've tried to make the Pastor aware of is the danger the school children are possibly subject to, as the school yard appears to me in eminent collapse due to the illegal excavation for the offending, illegal, structure next door as well as the costs to repair or sure-up the site to prevent it. I advised him to be aware as all evidence suggests an illegal, multiple family dwelling and the possible impact on the school and its students, in general. I told him that the TOWN is very aware and since it has continued to allow this to happen, this action suggests complete disregard to the parish and its children's safety. I advised him to both seek out an attorney & have a chat with his "friend" on the TB.

This was about 2 years ago. I have no intentions to advise him of anything more and its apparent that neither the Town nor the parish is concerned.

So, they way I see it is that Mr. Sheehan, Monsignor, & the Town board will have to live with themselves on this one.

I have no intentions to impose my personal opinion on anyone. All information is readily available and the grownups can form their own opinions and pass their own judgements.

I hope that those who have turned a blind eye to this situation don't regret doing so.

Question for Bass and Barnes:

Why did you participate in Francis Sheehan's ill conceived Rosh Hashanah Meeting? Especially you Steve? Does Sheehan have that much control over you? This is why the Feiner Team must be voted into office. Sheehan's domination of Steve and Edie makes it imperative that we elect Feiner's Team in order to preserve our democracy. l'affaire Bryan Cave redux.

In some respects, this issue was a godsend to Suzanne Berger.

Whether or not this is an example of influence peddling is not to me the issue. The active players did not include Berger, but rather the members of the Town Council (Bass excepted) who determined that holding interviews was unnecessary
because it was, after all, Bryan Cave, the firm that Ms. Berger worked for. Appearances of impropriety notwithstanding, the culprits were the three Town Council members, Barnes, Juettner and Sheehan who saw no problems in voting for the firm's employment without conducting interviews of all applicants.

That said, how did Ms Berger react.
In my opinion, with gratitude! It gave her something to talk about at all her whistle stops.

First of all, she did not vote to hire her firm so she cannot be blamed. Secondly, unless she becomes the Town Supervisor, she cannot vote to rescind their contract. It is the best of all popular worlds because she didn't do anything wrong and she can't do anything to make it legitimate.

What she can do, as she has, is talk it up on her public appearances. And this afforded her the opportunity to have something to say while disguising that she was clueless about all else in Greenburgh other than to acknowledge the "divisiveness" that's tearing Greenburgh apart theme.

So we have Ms. Berger doing the circuit defending the hiring of her firm which isn't her firm because she is not a partner and apparently quite willing to leave if she could only assume her life quest, the role of Town Supervisor.

So, seizing upon this non-issue for her, personally, she did not have to discuss any troubelesome Greenburgh operating issues which would require some knowledge; she did not have to understand the differences between nuts and bolts and she did not have to visit issues that might prove equally embarrassing to the Town Council.

As for divisiveness and the uncivil war that Greenburgh is embroiled within, here Berger could say that she alone can negotiate the troubled waters if only because the source of the turbulence is none other than her sponsors, Sheehan and Bernstein. Vote for Berger and perhaps the A and B squabbles will subside and the lawsuits will become distant memories?

Yes, Ms Berger has a lot to be grateful for, a campaign in which she didn't have to know anything more than "there's trouble, right here in River City" and, very, very important, who is 100% pro-choice.

You, the voters, must determine what exactly did Ms. Berger say about any issues? I'm saying that the answer to that conjecture is zip. All we know is that it was ok to hire Bryan Cave and that she has friends in high places.

That's the entire lowdown.

Don't let the Town Supervisor position become the go-to spot for those who seek to benefit from $130,000 worth of on the job training. Don't let the Town really be run by Francis Sheehan. Remember, in any other venue, he would properly be referred to as the "junior" Councilman. In Greenburgh with 20 months under his belt, HE has "excused" Bass from attending a special Town Board meeting (that HE called) on the Jewish New Year. I'm not as certain that he even extended the same courtesy to Supervisor Feiner. But the point to be remembered at the polling booths tomorrow is that a vote for Berger is really a vote for the shadow Supervisor, Town Supervisor Francis Sheehan.

Perhaps as a consolation prize, Ms. Berger could carry home the vacant judgeship that the Democratic Party has chosen to hold in abeyeance. Perhaps for this very reason.

Disgusting remarks. Should I say that all the leaders in Edgemont are fighting to the death to keep non-jews out of Edgemont? Well, I wouldn't but some people seem to think this is true. Is it? Should I check with Bernstein's Rabbi?

My statement is just as disgusting. Are you getting the picture yet?

Horrible.
