ANNUAL DOG SWIM ON 9/7..DOG PARK TO OPEN IN FALL, CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY

Dear Dog lover!

Some good news.

DOG SWIM-- Our annual dog swim will take place on Sunday, September 7th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Anthony F. Veteran Park day camp pools. This is one of the most popular events the town sponsors each year --hundreds of dogs, dog owners attend the event and enjoy each other's company. This event is free but this year (to help offset costs of the new dog park) we're going to be asking for voluntary donations.

DOG PARK GRAND OPENING-- Our new dog park is almost ready to be opened. The park will be located at East Rumbrook Park at the end of the parking lot. This one acre dog run will have a fenced in area for small dogs and a fenced in area for all dogs. In addition to the dog run, dog owners will be allowed to walk their dogs on a leash on a wood trail. The grand opening will take place on Sunday, October 5th at 2 PM. Please join us and bring your dog.

DOG PARADE--the 2nd annual Hartsdale Rotary dog parade will be held on Sunday, October 12th at 1 PM . It's a fundraiser for Student Advocacy. Dress your dog in an appropriate outfit. Have your dog win prizes.

WANT TO HELP MAKE OUR DOG PARK BETTER -- We need to raise funds for amenities in our dog park, to make it better and better. Want to help out? Want to be part of the fundraising committee? Let us know.

amenities in our dog park ... such as?

Anonymous said...

Are they limited to TOV dog owners?

And yest another use of Veterans by non- TOVers.

FANTASTIC! I can't wait to go to the park. Thank you!

Mr. Feiner: Voluntary donations and fundraising for what kinds of extra stuff? Please reply.

This is another wonderful amenity that Unincorporated Greenburgh is providing free of charge to the town's village residents, thanks to Feiner and his "villages first" campaign.
How much is this freebie for the villages costing us Unincorporated Greenburgh taxpayers? Wasn't that 21% tax hike for us a warning sign that these expenses maybe shouldn't be incurred?
Not to Feiner and his "team." They announce a hiring freeze one minutes and then hire so many new employees over at the Community Center (another town-wide facility which we also pay for exclusively) it's hard to keep track of which Feiner and Sonya Brown-friendly family member is related to whom. Maybe the amount we're paying for the dog park will be posted next time Feiner hosts office hours at the Dobbs Ferry Stop-in-Shop. You won't read it here, that's for sure.

My friends and I are eagerly awaiting the dog park opening. Finally, a place to take our dogs!

Why cant we restrict to only TOV like the courts said we are supposed to? I hope Bernstein puts this in another lawsuit.

Anonymous said...

If the Court of Appeals rules that Finneran is unconstitutional, like Bernstein is asking it to do, he won't have to put the dog park issue in another lawsuit. Parks open townwide will have to be paid for townwide.

Anonymous said...

"Parks open townwide will have to be paid for townwide ..." which would be just the extra push the villages would need to secede from Greenburgh and form their own township.

Anonymous said...

Not to worry, the villages can't afford to "secede." They have to pay off Greenburgh first and that's not going to happen in anybody's lifetime.

Is Bernstein a contributing writer to this blog?

Anonymous said...

What about amenities for PEOPLE? What happened to Float Night at Veteran Park?

Bernstein is a contributer to Greenburgh. He is unincorporated Gburgh's only hope. Further, if the villages were smart, they would try to talk to him. He is actually looking for solutions. Rather than complain about how the NYS town/village law is antiquated (even though it seems to work for evry else, including nearby Eastchester), he is looking for a fair and legal solution.

I don't have a dog WHY should my tax dollars go for a dog park.

Anonymous said...

I don't have any kids why should I pay school tax

Anonymous said...

Im not a senior y should I pay for meals on wheels.

Anonymous said...

I live in unincorporated Greenburgh -- Feiner thinks I should pay for everything.

Anonymous said...

Feiner doesn't think that we should pay for everything he demands that we do .

Anonymous said...

What ever the town puts into motion you can be assured that the unincorporated area pays.
The problem is that the money goes to the Fairview section all the time.
Tell me Paul has the Housing Authority paid back the money that they owed for private protection from the town police.
Don't forget the amount it is close to a half million dollars.

Feiner is stingy. He does not like to spend tax dollars. He was against library building. He was against community center building and he does not pay dept heads what commissioners in other cities receive.

Anonymous said...

You are talking about apples and oranges.
This is a town not a city and our men get paid more than the other .
Feiner pays his personnel according to union contracts.
There is nothing holding a commissioner here to work .They must like what they get if not there are other towns or cities where they could try to get more.

And to think that Al Regula comes all the way from New Jersey, tolls and gas, just to hang out with the boys.

Anonymous said...

Regula has his own reasons to stay employed at a position for thirty or more years.
There must be a lot of compensation that goes with that position.
Think about it.

Thank the CSEA Union. Instead of giving them a raise in 2008, the Town gave it to your dogs. Woof.

To answer the original question, I believe that Paul is referring to amenities that other dog parks in the area have such as a water fountain for dogs & people, earth-friendly waste stations with biodegradable bags to pick up and dispose of feces, tunnels, agility equipment, etc. These are all things that are not necessary, but are a nice addition to a dog park. They are things that those who intend to use the dog park can raise money to purchase.

Why not do something about the people that are using the lawns at Hartsbrook Park as a picnic area.
Have you forgotten there is a religious group that has property in that area.
Why are dogs permitted to roam loose . These religious all passed 75 years old are always walking arround the grounds some using walkers and some in wheel chairs..
Why do you permit men riding bikes on this property .
If they have to ride bikes you should build a bike path where they can cycle.
I think that this is a disgrace.
You should have your engineering department look at the whole picture and figure out a way that the people that use the park stay within the town boundries plus you should figure out another way of entering and exiting the park..

I love going into this park but I am afraid of the dogs plus the property is vast with no security.
I enjoy the greenery and the varity of trees but I am always mindful of my surroundings.
The dogs should be leashed and not made to run all over the place and poop all over.
I was in there when someone came in with three dogs running all over the place.
Many have used Ridge park for this reason but now they are using this magnificent parkland.
Is this the reason why this parkland was purchased.
I don't think so.
The place is too big and sometimes there are people coming out of the woods who have found some sort of a trail to walk through.
Security is badly need in a park like this.
You never know who is in the woods or with their dogs when one tries to enjoy nature.

Dear 11:13,

"you never know who is in the woods or with their dogs when one tries to enjoy nature"

IDIOT!

The thing about nature is that it is unplanned, unattended and left in its "natural" state.

Apparently what you seek is some homogenized view of nature as presented by the Disney organization.

Hal,

There is a vast difference between a well maintained accessable park, like the Central Park Feiner promised us, or many other local parks. Taxter Ridge is not accessable and not safe. I live in Greenburgh, but am not aware of any Greenburgh parks that have access and are safe. I use county parks. So the question is why do I have to pay Town taxes? Oh wait, so Danny Gold can have a nice backyard.

Samis you are the idiot. Have you walked through this park with dogs running all over the place. Tell me what kind of nature is that.
I'm concerned that these dogs will bite me or some others that walk to enjoy the fresh clean air.
I'm not looking for Disney land I just want to feel safe in walking arround.
There are no set rules in full view as to the do's and dont's .
Bike riding is another thing that should be prohibited.
If there were a bike trail it would be great I would be the first to use it but they ride all along the roads and at times because of the curves in the road you can't see them
Samis have you ever heard of safety. That's my first concern.

Before there were leashes, dogs roamed freely.
I don't have a dog, I don't want to walk in the park and I agree that I probably wouldn't feel safe with lots of dogs running loose.

What I was reacting to was my usual demands upon bloggers that they get real. This is a bedroom, suburban community 20 miles from NYC and the year is 2008.

If you want to enjoy "nature" get thee to a wilderness, don't expect that parks in Greenburgh are or can be a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Dogs are required to be on leashes in Hart's Brook and you can't ride bikes on the trails. I know this because a park employee told me to put my dog on a leash and asked me to keep my child from riding his bike on the trails. I wasn't aware of the rules until he pointed out a huge sign at the entrance of the main trail by the barn. I still use the park but now I play by their rules.

I dont want a "disney land" park but I would like useable parks. I cant go for walks in Harts because the trails are desolated, and a woman could easily be attacked. I went once and it was spooky. Paul doesnt care -- all he wants is green space, he doesnt care about useable parks. Look how well designed the Irvington Scenic Park is -- and how much the walking paths are used. It is not disney land, it is good, get away from the TV activity.

indeed - we need a place to get away from sheehanigans while enjoying a delicious klondike bar, all the while contemplating the end of juettner's 20 reign of error on the town board.

oops - 20 year reign of error.
rejoice - 2009 is coming soon - end of the juettner era (error)

Today at the Hartsbrook there were motor cyclist riding on the roadways.
This should not be happening in this park. Bicycles and motor cycles shoud not be permitted.
Paul you seem to forget that that there is a private institution on those grounds which does not need these goings on.
Please do something real soon before one or two of the elderly in wheel chairs or getting along with a walker finds herself in trouble because there is no one minding this parkland
You have to set up some rules as to what one can and cannot do.
Don't wait for an accident to happen.
You have many elderly people enjoying the trees and parkland as I love to do,but we too are in danger because you have blind spots where one driving or biking has a tough time seeing arround corners and may hit someone .
Please take some action as to the loose dogs pooping all over the place.
I do not think that this parkland was purchased for dogs, and lately used for picnics by some famlies.

Anoyn 9/01/2008 4:13 PM,
relax it is a park people may picnic walk, bring their dogs ride bikes what ever float their boat, just because you dont like what they do dont be mean!

Anonymous said...

Do you want another Webb field???????

Anonymous said...

The person that wrote the comment on the blog concerning the park is just stating that rules and regulations should be placed at the entrance of this parkland since there is a private institution on the site that is not part of the town operation.
If bike riding or motor cycling is permitted there should be paths fixed by the town .
If dogs are permitted they should be leashed and the owners should pick up the poop .
Is that too much to ask .
