Entering Greenburgh can be pretty embarrassing:

1) Central Park Avenue northbound between the Yonkers line and Ardsley Road (including the median strips)

2) Ardsley Road between the Scarsdale line and Central Park Avenue

This has been an issue for at least two years. I feel that the Greenburgh DPW needs to take the initiative to get these roadways cleaned, even though they're state and county roads. A powerful weedwacker and raking a few times a year, weekly litter pickup, and a weekly driveby of a street cleaner would make a world of difference.

As is, these two roadways actually encourage litter accumulation. Additionally, some storm drains are covered by debris.

Even if the Greenburgh DPW won't do it, someone in that department needs to make some noise to the county and state. With such little snowfall and no vegetation growth, now would be a ideal time to tackle this issue.

1)Ditto on Central Ave. Yonkers takes care of their medians on Central ave and it looks great in the summer.

2) Can DPW have a town Dump or garbage drop off area so we can get rid of our garbage when there is only 1 day a week pick up?
Or go back to the 2 day garbage pick up and no recycle pick up on holiday weeks.

CHECK ALL THE AREAS ,GREENBURGH is a mess. Household garbage should not be left uncovered at curbside. On windy days garbage is all over the place. At night time animals take over looking for food.GREENBURGH has good laws concerning garbage and recycling, which are not enforced.I have not seen one case where summonses were issued .

Feiner Juettner Bass and Barnes all gave us that hideous wall on central avenue in front of webb field. So dont count on these four dolts to be sensitive to the hideous appearance of much of greenburgh. You want to improve greenburgh? Throw these incompetents out of office.

Regarding the 9/11 wall- please be advised that Congresswoman Lowey secured a $97,000 grant from the federal government to landscape the area around the wall and to make other enhancements around the park.

No one's complaining about Congresswoman Lowey or landscaping or park enhancements - just the existance of that tacky wall itself and its random placement.

"sensitive to the hideous appearance"

I don't think it's a matter of sensitivity or even the town council. Basic road maintenance is a baseline service that a resident of any municipality should expect.

Granted, we all know that Greenburgh DPW's current management isn't as capable as those in Yonkers and our other neighbors, but someone around here needs to be the boss and enforce that employees at least do the most elementary functions of their jobs.

That wall is an eyesore. Paddle ball anyone ???

Whats worse? THE WALL or the Old Jack la Lane ???

ERIK WARD ???????????????

What does the wall have to do with the cleaning of roadways.HAVE ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS,look into all the complaints that they received, whether its, roads, garbage, construction, etc.then we could see which is at fault in not doing their job.RIGHT NOW EVERY DEPARTMENT SHARES SOME BLAME.

Our public works dept might be criticized by an anonymous blogger, but most Greenburgh residents appreciate the good work performed by the employees who work for sanitation and highway depts.

I don't criticize the entire DPW; just the fact that roadway maintenance in the town is overall below standards. No one can deny that there are many sections of Greenburgh that have been neglected for years (see first post above).

We need more people like Mr.Samis who lets the people know what different cover ups in the town government are taken place. We need more people like him rather than, some people on civic associations. Samis does his homework. Thank You.

I wish that Steve Bass would have half the smarts that Samis has.

Anonymous said...

I wish that Steve Bass had one-quarter the smarts that Samis has and one-quarter of the ethics and principle that Samis has. We'd be a helluva better town.

MR, SAMIS, HOW ABOUT RUNNING FOR ONE OF THE SEATS IN THE NEXT ELECTION.YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD SAVE THIS TOWN.

Anonymous said...

Hey Paul, how about hiring Mr.Samis as your advisor since Sheenan has one I would think you are entiled to one.I'm quite sure Samis would do the advising pro bono ,making this town a better place to live. We do need someone with his inteligence to save us .

Samis is very surprised to see that there are still some residents I haven't offended.

Thanks for your kind words.

The HPPD is the most unresponsive agency.

Why do they have all their meetings at 4:30.

Their mission is to serve commuters. Most are in NYC at that hour.

They dont post agendas.

The snow removal in Greenburgh was AWESOME.

Greenburgh has excellent services. Glad we live here. Snow removal is second to none.
