NY STATE SLOWLY PHASING OUT STAR EXEMPTIONS

The NY State Legislature is slowly phasing out the STAR exemption programs. This is information that the assessor provided Town Board members with. If your school tax bills have increased - this is one of the reasons.

Paul,

Please spend your time with Town finances -- leave the county and state to those who are paid to deal with them. We need you to work on town taxes.

Greenburgh residents need relief from all levels of government--the state, county, town, schools, fire districts. Everyone has been raising taxes. The private sector has been increasing costs of living too--from food to utilities to clothes and other essentials.

If the state phasing out the Star Program is "one of the reasons why our school taxes are going up," could nother reason be the assessor screwed up $2,400,000 which will have to be paid back.

Your intro iscute, Paul, but half truths are as good as lies. And, you are proficient at that.

Yes, Ed is right. Not only did my mortgage institution require me to pay the short fall of over $800. , they have now overestimated my escrow moving forward to cover this and any other shortfall "mistake" that might be made in the future.

Not cool. Not my fault. I have to pay it.

The Center is closed for evening programs during September.
Whitehead authorized these hires and their excessive hours without the knowledge of the Town Board.

HAL SAMIS IS RIGHT, THE PUBLIC DESERVES ANSWERS.
PAUL WE ARE WAITING.

This business of the state "phasing out STAR exemptions" is pure Feiner malarkey.

STAR exemptions are calculated based on a fixed dollar amount off the market value of a property's home. Here in Greenburgh, before the recent economic downturn, property values have been accelerating. As a result, the exemption in Greenburgh becomes worth less and less.

The only way out of this mess is for the town to reassess. The STAR exemptions get readjusted if the town were to do that. But Feiner is afraid to do that because he doesn't want to spend the money and because he tells people that the elderly will see their assessments climb.

So, the bottom line is that Feiner did not tell the truth when he said the state was slowly phasing out STAR exemptions. Isn't it time we had a town supervisor who was candid with the people of Greenburgh?

This post is meaningless. What do the numbers relate to? Do they show anything important. What does it mean that the second number in the 1999-2000 column is higher than in the 2006-2007 column? Please note that the numbers trend the other direction in all the other places on the chart.
How about an explanation rather than the slipshod effort you've produced? Kolesar could probably make it understandable - but then your continuing financial illiteracy would show through.
Paul, this is yet another example of your lazy, haphazard way of doing things. You've done a "cut and paste" and you probably haven't a clue what it means either.
SHAME ON YOU!

Hey Paul join the club. Are you any different than the state politicos.
NO.
You are trying to take away our way of life because of your no hands on policy which allowed your department heads to spend and keep spending.

You have taken our mony and spent it in the parks, center .daycare.and the library so are you not the same as the state.
If you do have a conference please don't open your mouth because you will do the public more harm than good.

INVOICE FOR GAY SILVERMAN

Whereas you have entered into an agreement to rent space at the Theodore D. Young Community Center, and as a good responsible taxpayer, conscientious of the financial burden placed on our valued town residents, this letter serves to remind you that you owe $20,000.00 in rental fees which was duly noted from last January. Simply put, we taxpayers don’t know where you get the chutzpa from, to go to a town board meeting and play victim while shamelessly pandering to temporary commissioner, Valerie Whitehead. Add to the fact that you put down the efforts of the entire staff, who work hard every day to put out the best programs possible plus contrary to your comment, do indeed welcome everyone who enters through the center’s doors.

Now let’s figure this out:

A Valerie desperately needs money.
+ B You haven’t paid your bill.
= C: More shady wrongdoings!

Can you smell kickback?

It’s highly suspect when the department head praises the efforts of a space renter who is ten months behind in her rental fees. The temp lady should have initiated some efforts to collect money that was due to the town!

Paul, please investigate this.

PS. Gay, I’m sending you some kneepads. They should be useful at your next town board meeting.

was this posted prior to the meeting so the dope that screwed up on collecting taxes could ease his 2 million dollar mistake. Big screw up, what will be done about this Paul. I man working for the town for 20 years and it took him this long to figure out his mistake. Uh I miss calculated the star rebate so everybody paid to little especially the seniors. I guess in the land of bozo vill a 2 million dollar mistake is nothing. Maybe someone should go back and review all the years the star program has been in existence to see how much more money is owed that was never collected.

Sorry to burst your bubble 11:36 the person who made the mistake was a she the assessor.
She should be fired.
No one has ever investigated this department books .
Boe the comptroller of NEw york would have a field day.
This should have never happened and she should be let go.
Samis asked her to tell the public how this oversight happened but she refuse.
What other mistakes has she made????????

10:41 although you may be rite it is to my understanding that the man that made the report of the 2+ million dollar screw up was a supervisor of said employee. If nobody is watching the sheep they may be out wandering. And if this happens in town hall what goes on Town wide.

I heard a rumor 2 months ago about this said star mistake, and come to find out at last nights meeting it was no rumor.

To the no ball, gutless who blame the assessor, place it where it belongs with the sneak Brodsky. Cut the rate slip it in so one will see. The town was not the only munucipality who suffered see Harrison, Mamaroneck to name a few. It is a joke that BOB, Hal and others would blame the assessor when they know well it is the states fault.

go back to boston 3:19

Ok, duh of course the mistake was the Assessor, since she is never there, she probably passed the job onto her employees and they made the error, when she should be there to do her job as opposed to "passing the buck" or working other jobs!
Duh Samis asked her at the meeting to speak on it and she refused, the lady is a lot of talk and when confronted she "cowers!"
Nice this is what our tax dollars are going to, a 2 million dollar error, an Assessor who works, but is never around and a Supervisor that covers for her!

Anonymous said...

Do you know why the supervisor covers up for her. Well let him explain who's going with who. This who is his fair hair boy.
She should be fired for making a 2 million plus error .
But Feiner is just looking to get rid of the small fish.
