One thing that really gets me angry is how the Town Supervisor, either through naivete or intention CONTINUES to exploit his position to promote his friends of the friends of Town employees.

Here we have what was sent on the Town's email system what should have been a simple and reasonable news release -- a reminder about the concert series tacked on to the coming Town Board work session.

What it becomes is an outrageous endorsement for someone looking for work and hoping to get it by being vetted by the Town Supervisor.

What music he plays and how he plays it is fine by me. Reporting what his musical background is is also fine by me. Those who attend and listen will make their own judgement regarding his musicianship. What I strenuosly object to however is the additional flacking for Mr. Flaks.
What his business credentials are is not only irrelevant to his performance but by what criteria does Mr. Feiner salute him as a business success? How does Mr. Feiner know whether he has guided others to make twice the income? Does Mr. Feiner know whether or not Mr, Flaks is paying to have his book published through some vanity press imprint? Whereas my purpose here is not to scrutinize Mr. Flaks' credentials, a Google search clearly shows that he, like the Supervisor, makes a great effort to get himself attached to those "open-to-all" internet promotional portals.
These so-called networking sites don't discriminate and being on one is the new millennium equivalent of "as advertised on television" which is supposed to make the ignorant masses think that this means something special.

And what does a veteran of the music industry mean? A performer? Or an executive?

I'm assuming that Mr. Feiner has copied his comments from Mr. Flaks' press release which, if so, was written to cast a rose-colored patina over the mundane.

Yes, this is Mr. Feiner's blog but this posting was also a Town distributed official email. And yes, this being the Feiner blog one cannot ignore that the blog home page clearly references that Mr. Feiner is the Town Supervisor of Greenburgh...a connection which invokes that his comments are those of the municipality.

We now live in a networking age. And these are harsh economic times.
Ignorant people believe that if it appears on the internet or in print; that it must be true. The Bernie Madoffs of the world exist because it is now possible to fool many of the people most of the time. We do not the Town Supervisor to use his name or the Town's name and resources to promote the business plans of others. Cultivate the garden of the Town which pays you; let others cultivate their own garden.
Let this strike you as a voltaire of lightning.

And De Santis Plaza is a Town Park.
Hopefully you are not allowing Soliciting to occur there as well.

What makes me REALLY sick is reading the callous remarks of a lunatic such as Hal Samis......

He should kiss the grown he walks on that he has the priviledge to express his sick and callous thoughts to the public.

I wonder how many drugs must have to take in order to work with the public.

Kudos to Scarsdale for placing their farmers market away from the Village Business District. Feiner doesn't seem to understand the economics of our Town or in general. These vendors are paying $50 per Saturday to sell their goods. The mom & pop shops on EHA are paying thousands of dollars per month. Some of the merchants enjoy the market as it doesn't compete with them. Our produce store, flower shop and bakery are being forced to compete on what should be their busiest retail day. There was no police presence this past Saturday - cars were parked illegally in front of Starbucks and double parked across the street near DeSanti Plaza - it was difficult to drive through the area let alone navigate it on foot. Someone is going to get killed as there is absolutely no traffic control whatsoever. The "market manager" is a joke...she was clueless about what was going on around her and quite honestly is not trained to control traffic. The GPD has auxiliary police - there should be a car and officer at the market during the full hours of operation. The market is supposed to operate from 10 AM to 2 PM - Westchester View started setting up at 7:00 AM and didn't leave until after 4 PM. That's 9 hours of competition with our existing small businesses at a cost of $50 to Westchester View - are you kidding me? The local rents probably exceed $250 per day. The Farmers Market doesn't belong on East Hartsdale Avenue in the middle of an existing business zone.

Agreed, the farmers market doesnt belong at the station.

Also, is the Yonkers Philarmontic getting paid?

Hartsdale Home Owner said...

I have to admit, I starting going to the much more appealing and accessible Scarsdale farmer's market, which has a wide variety of vendors. Our market is merely the same produce we can get any day of the week at the farm up on the hill on W. Hartsdale Ave. plus the (excellant!) pie guy and, sometimes, the bread table. I felt really embarassed for the performer on Saturday, strumming away on the guitar trying to be heard on the lonely island amid the noise from the trains and ceaseless traffic. It really is an insult to a musician to ask them to perform in such a setting. in the past, Paul has proudly affirmed that the Sat. market brings foot traffic to the village, however, I'm still waiting to see some confirmation from the storeowners (other than perhaps the trainstation Starbucks) that the farmer's market increases their business.

Dear "really sick" at 8:05,

Rx from Dr. Scholl,

Stop reading blog comments which begin: hal samis said...

As for kissing the ground, it seems that I should be grateful for the privilege that I can make comments to everyone but you.
However, an little known chapter of the law, which makes it illegal to drive and talk on a cellphone at the same time, also includes a prohibition against walking and kissing the ground.

Paul why dont you move The Farmers Market to 177 Hillside Ave parking lot ?

Anonymous said...

Why don't you move it to Boulder Ridge?

Anonymous said...

*perks up*

Boulder Ridge? Is that the very same place the has neatly manicured lawns free of weeds due to the use of weed killer?

The very same weed killer that Paul refuses to allow be sprayed onto the fields of our weed infested parks?

haha!

Anonymous said...

Why cant they use weed killer? I have seen it being used.

Anonymous said...

I wish they'd use weed killer it on the Central Ave median strips; such an embarrassment.

Anonymous said...

The town budgeted less than $5,000 this year to remove weeds from Central Avenue. There's a reason Central Avenue looks like the mess it is. Money that would ordinarily be budgeted for such necessary maintenance was diverted to such non-essentials as an after school program for Greenburgh Central 7 kids, including door to door bus service from their elementary schools to the Young Community Center. The town also maintains two departments of recreation -- one by the Parks and Rec Department and the other run by the Department of Community Resources, each with its own set of highly paid commissioners. Removing weeds from Central Avenue? C'mon. There's no votes in that.

Anonymous said...

Using weed killer isn't the "green" thing to do. Right Paul?

Anonymous said...

Central Avenue is not a town road. It is a state road. The town cannot spend taxpayer dollars on weed killers on state property. Bloggers are spreading false info.

Anonymous said...

Yep, Central's a state road, all right, that's why the Cities of Yonkers and White Plains maintain their sections of that state road, because they know that it's in the best interests of their taxpaying commercial property owners to make sure their portions of state roads look as attractive as possible. You see, not only do these property owners pay property taxes, but their businesses generate sales taxes, and that brings in extra money for these municipalities. It's too bad Greenburgh has short-sighted town officials that always look for excuses why they haven't done their jobs -- instead of just doing them.

Anonymous said...

weeds are on central avenue because residents in the town don't want weed killer used. But it will look crappier than past years because Paul has cut the overtime from most departments. Even know the tax dollars were already budgeted for maintaining the basics of the town. Is this a political ploy to stop departments from doing basic road maintenance. What will be done with all of the overtime money that isn't used well i'll tell you it is going to be used during an election year to make it look like taxes didn't go up much, but truth is taxpayers are paying more than ever before for services, and receiving less services than ever before.

3:21, wow, exactly what I was thinking.

No weed killer on any town property. Have you seen our parks? Where there was once grass, WEEDS. Veterans-weeds and dirt, Webb- mostly dirt now and WEEDS.

Anonymous said...

The Parks in this town are terrible. Do we need to hire private contrators to main these parks. It might save us taxpayers money.

Anonymous said...

It's an outrage that the vendors at the Hartsdale station pay only $50 for space, when taxes are raised substantially, program fees are increased to the point that many programs are out of reach for many Greenburgh residents ie:camp fees. Increase the fees for space just as you have increase fees to use Veteran Park pool and day camp program to name a few.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with 8:23.

How many pies does Enricos have to sell to break even on thier daily rent? I doubt their rent is $50 a day.

So, the farmers market takes their business away and the town charges them next to nothing to turn a tidy profit.

Even Paul should be able to figure out that this is hurting the shop owners on EHA.

Did anyone notice that the Teen Travel camp program at Parks and Recreation has doubled since last year? Are they crazy?

Anonymous said...

boycott E HARTSDALE AVE

Anonymous said...

The only way to save money is to audit all of the departments and find the garbage and clean up shop.

Anonymous said...

How many other ways does our supervisor want to hurt the business people.

You had a commissioner who did nothing from the first day of flooding on E. Hartsdale Ave. now you allow the farmers market to open up for the summer months.

This must be some sort of a joke as to how you are governing Greenburgh.

Anonymous said...

Yes the fees for Travel camp have increased to the point that now countless numbers of teens will no longer be able to take advantage of this wonderful summer experience. It is open to only the financially well positioned Greenburgh children. The person who came up with these outrageous fees for travel camp is guilty of promoting de facto segregation. Residents of this town must not tolerate any program that promotes separating the haves from the have nots. Greenburgh has always had a policy that no resident would be denied participation in any program because of the inability to pay. There are so many children who would benefit from the experience of the travel camp who otherwise would not have an opportunity to travel beyond the boundaries of Greenburgh due to economics etc.Now Greenburgh is saying that there is no room for those who do not have deep pockets. How can the town board, supervisor Feiner and Commissioner of the Parks Dep't not see that by raising these fees without offering financial assistance eliminates a whole segment of the population. Remember the pole tax in the South. This is the equivalent, except that it now includes others who have been impacted by he economic down turn. Open this program to all youth regardless of ability to pay or close it. Travel camp, as most programs is not totally self sufficient....and besides that, the concept of a teen travel camp for a select group defies town policy.

Anonymous said...

Sweet Mother of God! I just looked at the brochure and saw that the Teen Travel Camp has doubled AND the notation of "no financial assistance available for this program."

What nerve! SPEECHLESS

PORT CHESTER - Former elected officials from the village who served 10 or more years will no longer be receiving lifetime health benefits. The village board has eliminated health insurance for eight former trustees, a move that will save the village $70,000 a year and up to $1.8 million in future payments, the board said.

The best place for the farmers market is the parking lot at town hall.
As far as Hartsbrook park goes there is not enough parking for the public.
Have you forgotten that there is another property owner on that estate that houses retired religious .
The users of this park should be careful when they are driving thru that there is no one walking on the roadway.
What the town should do it make a seperate entrance and exit on this land to safeguard the safety of these senior religious citizens who are seen everyday walking along the roadside.
Another thing the town is guilty of having water on this property which harbors mosquitos.
The supervisor should take a drive on Ridge rd. to check this out.
This is almost at the beginning of the property right after the county park.
In the winter one can ice skate on this strip.

Yeah raise the teen travel camp fee. Pay the counselors at the TDYCC top dollar but freeze the salaries at the Greenburgh Day camps. That sounds real fair. NOT

Anonymous said...

yes so are the mosquitos that carry diseases. This is something that should be corected asap.

can't we have one park for what How come all the parklands are going to the dogs?
When was Hartsbrook park made into a dog park.
I guess it is true that all the parks are really going to the dogs.

Is this park supposed to have dogs all over the place.

Why can't we have one park for the people to enjoy?
These dog owners refuse to pick up after their dogs.
How about giving this park back to the people with a sign stating no dogs allowed.
Why

Anonymous said...

doesn't the deputy commissioneer of parks live at hartsbrook (for free) maybe he can shed some light,as if there are dogs at hartsbrook or not

Anonymous said...

Dogs should be welcome at our parks provided they are leashed. Don't punish the dogs, punish the owners. Raise the fine for not picking up after your dog to $500 - that will teach them a lesson.

Anonymous said...

We should at least have one park for humans.
We pay enough.

These people take advantage of all the parks .They even go into the county park when it is not being used by groups.

Was this park purchased for the dogs also??
Has the town forgotten that there is another property owner on this property that houses retired people.

Anonymous said...

I went in to check this park and I almost hit a small dog that was unleashed running from one side of the road to another.
Yes many had leashes but in one moment they were unleashed and made to run arround .
Not good supervisor. I do hope that you have a good amount of insurance to cover someone that is bitten by a dog.

Why are candidates for boards & commissions being interviewed in Executive Session? They are not employees, they are volunteers. They represent our communities on these various boards. Shouldn't the public know who is being considered and whether or not they qualify? Are they being appointed because they are supporters of local elected officials? Is anyone checking their qualifications in terms of residency? Do any have applications before the Town? Have they contributed to campaign funds of local officials? Do they pending litigation against the Town? If the Town is going to spend their time doing these interviews they should do in public so that we have a chance to ask questions.

Anonymous said...

I believe it was under Feiners adminstration that Town Board members started receiving health benefits and NYS Pension as "full-time" employees. They are not full-time employees. Someone should be checking their time sheets or don't they have to provide that info like every other civil servant? Are they padding their hours. How dare they collect $2,000 buy-out for health insurance. That's a bogus way of giving a $2,000 salary increase. If they don't need the coverage they should just decline it and give back the $2,000 to their taxpaying citizens. Shame on all of them!

Anonymous said...

Speaking of interview,Why not interview candidates, whether volunteer or paid, just as was done when looking for the commissioner of the community center. Let anyone who wishes serve on a search committee evaluate resumes' then interview candidates first then recommend three candidates to get the prized final interview with the town board. The initial interview committee should include employees who may work in a subordinate position and have to answer to the applicant. Also include people who live outside of Greenburgh, as Paul feels, anyone who wants to serve whether it's a conflict or not or whether they live in our town or not. For example, one of those who interviewed the candidates for TDYCC commissioner was rewarded a transfer, to the department that the candidate was interviewing for, a promotion and substantial increase in salary. Included in the interviewing process was a disgruntled employee who had serious issues with one of the candidates. So if there is equity and justice, with respect to hiring practices and procedures, the town board should include all who desire to participate just as was done when looking for the commissioner of the TDYCC. As a point of information there were more than 20 people who were part of the committee and about 18 in the initial interview. (Unheard of in this town). But of course anything goes wen it comes to the Center. Why was this not done when hiring comptrollers, Tax assessor, and commissioner of DPW. There is truly a double standard. Since the Town Board introduced this committee for the hiring process, it should follow that it should be carried through out the town. Open up the process and the doors to include more residents, non residents employees and just any person who wants to take part in the process. It's about being fair and not having a double standard as happens all the time in this town.
