HASTINGS FIRE CONTRACT APPROVED--HAD EXPIRED IN 2005

The Town Board finally approved the contract with Hastings for fire protection--serving the Donald Park fire district at last nights Town Board meeting. Hastings had been providing the town with fire protection services, without reimbursement or a contract, since the end of December, 2005.
We now have to work on approving a contract with Irvington. They have also been serving parts of unincorporated Greenburgh without a contract since the end of December, 2005.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have one fire department for Unincorporated Greenburgh just as we have one police department for Unincorporated Greenburgh?

In the meantime, if the Irvington contract proves difficult, then perhaps Elmsford FD might like the option to expand a bit to serve the East Irvington neighborhood since the districts are contiguous.

Actually, if Greenburgh doesn't feel like serving its own residents' fire safety in outlying sections, then shouldn't fire service be put up to bid for any other contiguous district?

Really, though, there should just be one merged fire district called Greenburgh just as we have one Greenburgh police district for the unincorporated region.

All of the above are worth consideration, especaially if it would save taxpayers money.

Kevin, Sonja, Paul kept their promise. Much gracias!

Huh? Kept their promise?

Why aren't the Towns professional departments, Fairview, Greenville and Hartsdale allowed to bid on the fire protection contracts? This is another way the Town "Rewards" the villages. No bid contracts are illegal!

Is the Town allowed to put out contracts without competitive bidding? Is this legal?

Paul, you have really messed up this town, now were going to have the Fire dept. fighting with each other within unincorporated.

Nice Job! I hope everybody watching for the next election!
