PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF 7 DAY A WEEK PROGRAMS AT THEODORE YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER

I will be proposing a resolution at Wednesday nights Town Board meeting (Aug 15) directing the Commissioner of the Dept of Community Resources to prepare a budget for a 7 day a week operation at the Theodore Young Community Center.
The center, which also has a great indoor pool, is currently open six days a week. I want the center to expand programs for our youth and to open its pool to residents seven days a week.
Many lower income residents and young people with single parents live off of Manhattan Ave, where the center is located. There is a need to address the needs of our community - with a seven day a week center.

This may be a terrific idea - but in order to determine whether it is as good as it looks at first glance, have you prepared even a rudimentary cost/benefit analysis? A simple listing of the direct costs involved - things like supervisory salaries, overtime for maintenance staff, additional insurance coverage, wear and tear on the facility - and the anticipated benefits would establish credibility and deflect charges that you are once again reacting to election year pressures from a small constituency.

Does this get charged to the A/B budget???

young center is paid out of B (unincorporated budget) - another feiner sop to the villages

And it is paid from the "B" budget despite the requirement of law that it be paid from the Town-wide budget unless the Town adheres to the rules for adopting in toto, Suburban Town Law.
You cannot pick and choose sections of the law ot follow - it's all or nothing. (One would think an attorney like Mr. Feiner could grasp the simple truth.)

So, if a small portion of the community needs something - and they are not white, it's OK - but if the Town perceives their locale to be predominently white, they are whiners, complainers or worse. Harry Lawson's OK -Bob Bernstein's a trouble maker. Nice place to live.

" ... directing the Commissioner of the Dept of Community Resources to prepare a budget ..." is a fine idea. Then, with proposed budget in hand, the matter can be discussed, analyzed, etc.

The center should be opened 7 days a week, It's not a political ploy on Feiner's part, but something needed to keep our children safe.

The advisary committee for TY center, was out of line saying that pushing ahead the resolution to keep the center opened seven days a week was a political ploy by Feiner, He had said from the beginning that the center should be opened seven days a week.Could it be possible that every advisorary group answers to Sheehan ,and only Sheehan.
We must look at all avenues to save our children, this is what Feiner believes in whole heartedly. If another day makes a difference in one childs life it's worth spending the money. As Feiner said there may be some grants that would help the center also.We have to make this a reality.

I respectfully disagree with the sentiment expressed by the poster at 10:26PM.
It is OUR duty as parents to keep our children safe. I do not want government, at any level, telling me how to raise my children - or, more importantly, substituting their values for mine.
Remember, for a very, very long time it was a governmental value that black people were property and inherently inferior. The wisdom of the masses as embodied in government is a dangerous form of ignorance.

More from the Son of the Shadow

Last night all of us were privileged to see and witness the “where as master”, Sir Francis the Duck, aka The Talking Mule, dedicate himself to not only the saving of the Dobbs Ferry Hospital, but having it named after himself. He justified that bold action by reminding the select audience at Town Hall and all of us in telly-land, that his long hours in the electro-shock therapy unit, entitled him to first dibs on naming rights. He felt that his long-association with those electric cattle prods would stimulate him beyond his almost legendary verbosity, which hallmarks his role as the “Shadow Supervisor.” Who should know more about this action, than the Son of the Shadow?

But of course, along with Sir Francis, the surviving members of the CABAL, want the naming rights to the commissary. It has been suggested by their august committee that it be open seven days, and that the varying culinary delights offered at the Francis the Duck Memorial Hospital, be named after the fine folk who put him power!

Some suggestions range from:

1) The Double Whopper and Cheese “Berger” for her many big whoppers!
2) The King Zog II- baloney and cheese with English mustard- for his hot faux exposes!
3) The Edgemont- roast beef on white bread with mayo, because they want to be like Bronxville
4) The Francis “Peking” Duck- served with feathers intact and still quacking!
5) The Krauss - Pigs Knuckles for his days at Stalag 17!
6) The Ella Kate Smith – finishing dessert apple strudel with schmaltz!

More from the Son of the Shadow!

Ah, you've forgotten the Shadow Roll - baloney with mayo wrapped in a delicate tissue of lies.

It seems to me that the residents in the Fairview area are not taking a stand to keep the center open 7 days a week. How come?
They too should voice their opinion, for or against.

The blog concept is inherently unfair - it assumes you can express yourself through the written word - a culturally imperialistic notion.
