GREENBURGH LIBRARY MOVING--TOWN HALL LIBRARY CLOSED

The Greenburgh Library is in the process of moving. As a result there will be some inconvenience to library patrons. The adult library at Town Hall closed today and the children's library will close tomorrow AM. Books are being moved from the Greenburgh Town Hall to the new library. We anticipate that the new library will open in mid December

The Library Director has indicated via the Town Clerk that the Library is to open December 15. There is CONSIDERABLE inconvenience, not "some" Mr. Feiner, because the Library wants to fill the store up when the public arrives to ooh and aah and not to notice that all the pants on display are several sizes too large.

Not having a library functioning for a month's time is beyond "some" inconvenience, Mr. Feiner. Especially when there are alternatives. In "The Journal News", Library Director Contrata was quoted as saying "Not everything has to be there on opening day". Of course, she was talking about the items that the public thought would be there because they had paid for them. In these circumstances, not all the books and the dvds have to be there on opening day either.

In esssence, by the Director's reckoning, Greenburgh patrons will be without library service for a whole month. Could the library have cranked up the cybermobile for this month? Yes.
They certainly had enough money at year end to do so.

They could have left behind a thousand or so of the most popular books and dvds so as not to leave their patrons experiencing withdrawal pains for a month's time. But they aren't.

Residents can still use the WLS for reserves but that is not a fast process and without the use of the Greenburgh collection, patrons will be in second, third or fiftieth place after the needs of the patrons of the library owning the requested item are fulfilled.

Yes, the Library has certainly taken pains to service its patrons; a observation which no doubt has been recognized by the absence of any sizeable donations to the library expansion project.

However, who cares?

I like the idea of using the cybermobile. I will contact the library. PAUL FEINER

Paul,

Whereas the Library would have ended the year with some $200,000 surplus, be aware that when the Town Board recently voted to allow the Library to establish a capital budget; this was done expressly so that the Library could spend down its surplus on capital items for the expansion project. This was another way that the Town Board could hide the fact that the project ran out of money. And the Library Trustees subsequently voted to approve the expenditure of at least $100,000 for capital items. I don't believe that they have spent the whole $200,000 yet but they certainly have enough to operate it for a month.

What the Town also needs to do is check on the status of the money supposedly coming in from grants. You will recall that the Town Board did vote to increase the project budget by some $400,000 even though the reciprocal grant funds were not in hand. If the grants don't materialize (State has its problems too) how is the Town going to fund the shortfall?

Paul take heart at what Samis is saying.
HE HAS NEVER BEEN WRONG ON THE LIBRARY.

Has there been much circulation over the past year? I can't imagine that closing for a month would have much of an impact. Just go to another nearby library.

What are people going to do without their free DVD"s for a month?

Dear 6:26,

Pay their portion of the debt service on the library bonds.

How can you say that the library will open when it is not fully equiped to serve the public.

Stop the BS Paul you have ruined this town nwith all that you say and do.

CHANGE =CHANGE= cannot wait.

It looks like the Library will be open seven days a week. Haven't heard anything different. I guess the reduction in their budget didn't hurt them that much. I wonder if they miss the Million dollars yet for the recent three year period that was lost to Ardsley because of wanting to raise Elmsford 35%. I believe they do. Paul, that could have really helped. Don't you think.

Paul,
Since the library has moved from the Town Hall, can that space be utilized for the recreation of town hall employees. Can we have some exercise bikes, treadmills, tennis table etc. It does not cost much. If every department contributes $5oo from its equipment budget, we can have these equipment which in turn will improve the health of employees and bring in more productivity/services for town residents. A wellwisher.

The space should be used by the courts to cut down on trailer rental.

The employees already live the life of riley. No show jobs. Tah Mahal town center. Gerry Byrnes says the only ones using the fitness center at Veterans - or wherever -- are employees.

So employees are using a fitness center at the park.. Is this on company time or after work....
If it's on company time that would be the reason for all the overtime.Over and over again it has been said that no one is watching the ship .
All can do what they want until the S--t hits the fan.

Great town Paul ,and you keep boasting that we are number eighty on the charts.
With what we pay in taxes we should have been in the top ten.
So you have failed big time.

RETIRE PLEASE.

WHITEHEAD STILL MAKING THE BIG BUCKS AND DOING NOTHING!

Finally a qualified, educated Commissioner with an established track record has been hired for the TDYCC, However in a total waste of taxpayer dollars, Whitehead who is under police investigation is still getting the double salary raise, not punching in, leaving the work place, and doing absolutely NOTHING! Why is Sonya so determined to champion this misfit!?!?!? Whitehead must have the goods on someone. What a rotten message to honest town employees who are working hard every working day. Worse still is the public sees the ENTIRE Center as being under investigation when it is ONLY VALERIE WHITEHEAD who committed thief of services crimes. But the whole Department's reputation is being made to suffer because of her selfishness, greed, and need for power. A blind person could see that she accomplished NOTHING during her time as Interim Commissioner. She gave away the farm to no show staff, including her nephew. So now as a result of her overspending, legitimate services will need to be cut. She is an affront to any person who is decent. Yet she dares calls herself "blessed". Actually she is indeed blessed...

Blessed by Greenburgh taxpayers who AREN'T calling for her termination.
