this death by a thousand cuts or want ads is pathetic

Here (if you really need it) is another example of really bad management.
Using the resources of a "general circulation" the blog to post a single job opening which clearly has not be vetted is WASTEFUL.
"Iterim VP of Marketing" turns out what they want is someone to make sales calls and there is nothing wrong or shameful in making sales calls. What is artfully concealed is that the position dead ends when the current holder returns from maternity leave. Again, nothing wrong or shameful in that, but it ought to be disclosed up front. Also not necessarily obvious to an elected public official who has NEVER held a job in the private sector, the job doesn't pay a salary or offer any benefits - the magic word in the posting is "CONSULTANT". It means that one is self-employed and offering one's services for a fee to be negotiated. Well, actually the only negotiation involved is whether the "employer" offers terms which are acceptable...

There are many people out of work. Any job information, no matter how good it is, is helpful. Let's see if anonymous comes up with something better. I doubt it. Will he or she even try?

Sorry, bad information is USELESS and wastes one's most precious resource, time.

In this case coming up with a real, usable suggestion for a job hunter which is better than what Supervisor offers isn't even a challenge -
Anyone who has a computer and can access this blog can also access www.monster.com which is an enormous resource for jobhunters.
As most adults learn, one ought to concentrate on one's strengths and let oneself use the strength and experience of others - sadly our Supervisor is still working out his infantile issues by trying to be all things to all people.

As long as we're speaking about professionalism, isn't it about time to get some professional management for the Town? The Mr. Feiner will be able to garner some real-world experience with employment issues...

Some people have found jobs as a result of these posts. IT ain't a waste of time!

Disgruntled Greenburgher said...

Exactly how many people have found jobs?
Exactly how many people have clicked onto the blog?
The inability to match the results to the resource investment is precisely the problem the Town faces at almost every level.
The indiscriminate application of resources will eventually bankrupt the Town.
Sure, you can kill a fly with a howitzer, but a fly swatter is a better choice - and for more than just the reason that the collateral damage is greatly reduced.

If people are unhappy with Paul's blog, what stops them from creating their own blog? It's free and takes about 2 minutes.

Disgruntled Greenburgher said...

A completely unresponsive response - what a surprise!
Ostensibly the Supervisor provides this blog to solicit input, starting another blog does not provide him with input.
Please now address the resource question.

Input? Most of what I read on this blog is pure unadulterated output, courtesy of Samis & Krauss.
