cablevision & cable box charges...

Have been receiving lots of calls from residents who are angry that customers are being charged by cablevision for cable boxes to watch programs that previously didn't require boxes (and the associated $6 box fee). This is for TCM service.
I asked the Town Attorney if the town can take any legal action. He provided me with an opinion which said that "Federal law preempts state and local governments from regulating rates for services above basic. Therefore, the town cannot regulate this rate in any way."
Glad we now will be getting cable TV competition with Verizon ( Greenburgh was the first locality in Westchester to approve competition)!

Years ago, when Paul Feiner and I were younger - a young Paul Feiner knocked on my door. He asked me to vote for him and promised that if I did he would work to get cable TV competition in Greenburgh. At that point in time there was another company serving Greenburgh. I gave Paul my vote and am pleased that he never gave up the cause. Now, we have competition finally. I appreciate the fact that Paul Feiner kept his promise and worked so hard for competition.

These cable box charges are absurd. I'm switching to Verizon When will the competition begin?

If Verizon rates are lower than cablevision rates - bye bye cablevision!

An effort by cablevision to make a few more dollars per subscriber by limiting a previouosly available channle,TCM,to those with cable boxes is arrogant.Itis also an effort to capture more profits in the future through the special fee driven services available only with a cable box. Yes, it is time to consider Verizon's FIOS-TV. Let's see if competition will really lower prices.

cablevision states they need to free up air access for emergency and aviation use. this may be true, but surely they could have started with one of the underutilized/unused channels. i feel they chose a popular channel as a way of wrangling old customers to a more expensive service that many to dont even have the electronic capabilities to enjoy
