LOTS OF INTEREST IN SEVEN DAY A WEEK POOL/COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS

A number of people expressed interest in having the indoor pool at the Theodore Young Community Center open 7 days a week. Residents also want the community center open 7 days a week.
A number of people spoke out at the Town Board meeting on Wednesday night in favor of both proposals. The Town Board will vote on a resolution asking the Community Center (and Advisory Board) to prepare a proposed budget.
We need more programs at the center and more hours...

What is the due date for the budget proposal?

The point at last night's meeting was not so much that there was "lots of interest" but where it was coming from.

How's this for chutzpah? One speaker from the Village of Scarsdale, asked Greenburgh to increase its spending so that the indoor pool facility can be open on Sunday, so that he and his family in Scarsdale can take advantage of it.

If the need for Sunday hours is that there are too many people using the facility, how come it didn't occur to anyone that maybe people from Scarsdale shouldn't be using it and that maybe the town should instead be limiting use of the facility to the residents who reside in the area that pays property taxes to support it?

Also up for the chutzpah award was the woman from the Village of Hastings who also wants to use the pool. Obviously, if the pool is available for use by village residents, which it is, and village residents want the town to spend more money to keep it open longer, then why shouldn't village residents be required to pay their fair share of property taxes to pay for it?

Is this what Bernstein's lawsuits are about? Making sure parks and recreational facilities that are available for use by all town residents, are paid for by all town residents. I sure hope so. That sounds fair, especially now that the unincorporated area's being asking to spend more money to help alleviate the overcrowding caused by, among other things, use by village residents.

This will just be another lawsuit the town loses. Becuz Feiner wont listen.

Let's focus on quality of life. Not on Bernstein. We want to use the pool 7 days a week.

So why not ask the rest of the town to pay for it? Isn't that the fair thing to do?

I think we should ask the rest of the Town to pay -- if they dont want to, then they should not be allowed to use it during even regular hours.

Why should only the pool be subject to residency restrictions? Webb/Preeser field is overrun/destroyed by groups of people and no one cares.

"Webb/Preeser field is overrun/destroyed by groups of people and no one cares."

Two separate matters here:

1. The field is being used a lot, and that's great!

2. The Town doesn't maintain it well, which is unfortunately typical. I've never understood why Greenburgh town management chooses not to meet routine maintenance standards for parks and roadways. There's certainly not a lack of staff. Maybe someone could check into how and why Yonkers' parks and roadways are so well maintained, and bring back some lessons for Greenburgh town management. (I grew up in Yonkers as a kid when parks and roadways were even worse than Greenburgh's, but they're doing something right nowadays; not sure what, but it would sure be worth investigating.)

Since Webb field is such an eyesore, how about selling it to a developer to construct homes. Not only will the property be well kept but it will also bring in some tax money. Really we have too many parks.

How much will the developer pay Feiner???

Thank you Supervisor Feiner for working to enhance our programming needs at the center.

the community center needs to be open every day of the week.

"the community center needs to be open every day of the week"

IF the budget proposal is reasonable

To help with the expenses of having the pool opened 7 days a week, how about charging a small fee,for usage.
In Ardsley the middleschool has a pool and the charge was per family.Maybe we could do the same.

the community center does charge

While I understand people wanting the pool/community center open 7 days, this is just another attempt to favor one group. And in the end of the day will end up in litigation as to A/B budget, which will hurt everyone in the Town. We cant afford Feiner.

Since the pool is causing so many problems close the dam thing. It seems that residents want all or nothing regardless of the problems that will follow. Enough is enough.

We do not need this tax burden anymore .As time goes on repairs have to be made over and over again, and the facility is not used to it's fullest.
If the people in the Fairview part of town want the pool ,they should fit the bill, and make it as a private business this way they could charge the fees that will make this a good running business.
It's not fair that people throughout the town have to pay taxes on their own pool plus keep this pool running.
Does this pool make enough money to run itself or do the tax payers have to contribute every year as part of the yearly town budget?

Try budgetting for maintenance BEFORE you add extra hours.
It ain't sexy but the facility will last a lot longer.
