TOWN BD MEETING CANCELLED--SCHOOL TAXES DUE MONDAY NIGHT

Due to the inclement weather (and possible freezing conditions in the evening) the Town Board meeting scheduled for tonight will be cancelled. The Town Board had previously scheduled a community outreach meeting next Tuesday, February 3rd at 7:30 PM at the Theodore Young Community Center. We will conduct some Town Board business after our community outreach session. I apologize for the inconvenience but your safety and the safety of department heads (some who reside upstate) is important. Enjoy the night off!

REMINDER: The 2nd half of your school taxes are due on Monday February 2nd -by midnight. Usually, school taxes are due the last day of January. However-- the last day of January falls on a weekend so you are being given a short extension. The Receiver of Taxes office will be open at Town Hall on Monday evening till 7 PM. You can pay online (www.greenburghny.com) till 11:59 PM on Monday evening.

Dear Mr. Feiner,

You may recall that the Town Board some years ago passed a Resolution to hold Town Board meetings in Town Hall (not in neighborhoods) where among other benefits, the meetings could be broadcast live.

Whereas I do not quarrel with the idea of cancelling the meeting due to inclement weather but you need have ended it with that statement.
When you added "and the safety of department heads (some who reside upstate) is important." you only bring up the observation that Greenburgh would be better served if more Department heads lived near-by (are you singling out the Chief of Police?) AND perhaps the meeting could continue absent these Department heads whose presence at the meeting is never essential to conducting Town business. Worse case: hold over the business requiring the Department head. As usual, the more you try to win hearts and minds, the more you end up behind the 8-ball when logic conspires to defeat your fairy tale.

And this brings me back to:

"We will conduct some Town Board business after our community outreach session."

According to the Town Board Resolution, the Town Board meeting (and all of its business) shall be conducted at Town Hall. You are welcome to end the meeting at the TDYCC and start the meeting at Town Hall or you can hold over all business until you reschedule an appropriate date. Don't confuse the dates of your re-election tour with those for conducting proper Town business.

Recycling was cancelled what did all of the sanitation workers do? Did they go out and shovel snow like in other municipalities or did they just watch tv all day on our dime?

Anonymous said...

9:46 you said it rite. On your dime it was. If you think that is bad pass by the sanitation yard any day after 12. This could be one way to cut saturday leaf pickup in the fall, by having the guys doing nothing go out with their new trucks and pick up bagged up leaves.

gee - i thought they were doing inventory on what broken damaged or defaced signage needed to be replaced.

To Mr. Samis' point, why not conduct whatever business is needed, FIRST, and then let the Department Heads go home. They don't need to be a part of the re-election road show. (Or maybe they do, because the full time CEO doesn't know what the heck is going on in the various departments.)

what happened to the comments on the the open forum for the week?

The blog should not be used for false accusations. Stay focused on the issues and there will be no deletions.

Mr.Feiner,
Do you answer the questions addressed to you on "Town Time ",If you do we the tax payers of this town are paying for this Blog and as I see you enter comments and post comments at different times of the day again stating my claim that this Blog is payed by town tax payer and is answered on tax payer time by the town supervisor who is paid by town tax payer money. Then I come to the conclusion that removal of any comments is cencorship.Thank you again for you time. Mr Cinque

hey cinque - weren't you killed in that sla operation involving patty hearst a while back?

where have you been?

The S.L.A. formed after the escape from prison by Donald DeFreeze, a.k.a. "Field Marshal Cinque." He had been serving 5-15 years for robbing a prostitute. DeFreeze took the name Cinque from the leader of the slave rebellion who took over the slave ship Amistad in 1839. DeFreeze escaped from the Soledad State Prison on 5 March 1973 by simply walking away while on work duty in a boiler room located outside of the perimeter fence.

Hi: I have received many complaints over the past few years about the tone of the blog. I haven't taken any action up till now because I want your input. In fact -- I have benefitted from your criticisms and statements. I have even modified some of my views, based on your comments.
Bloggers should feel free to comment freely about issues. Just don't personalize the attacks. You can criticize elected officials for voting one way or another but don't defame someone, make false accusations or focus on personalities. FOCUS on town issues. If we can exchange opinions about town issues-- and avoid mean spirited attacks this blog will be helpful to all sides.

Paul, personalizing attacks is part of political dialogue. This is not a tea party. You should not remove those comments.

It is OK to remove comments that slander people or go after their private lives, whether true or not. Private lives and slander are not part of the political dialogue

The town does not sand or clear private driveways.

Deleting blog comments is entirely consistent with the kind of open government which has effectively deleted public comment from Town Board meetings.
It is entirely consistent with the Town policy of requiring FOIL requests for virtually any public document.
It is entirely consistent with the implicit threat that any member of the public who files a complaint with the Ethics Board will subject the complainant to criminal charges if the allegations are unproved.
All are symptomatic of leadership which feels itself to be under attack and so ego-centric it cannot admit that it has made mistakes.
Suggestions, comments, or rational critiques which even suggest that the Town Board and its Supervisor are pathetically inept political wannabes are not welcome in Greenburgh. One may not point out that the Emperor is naked. Friends of various officials have repeatedly told us to mind our tongues or they will be torn out.
So, why is anyone surprised that censorship has been extended to even this sparsely read corner of Greenburgh?

Proof of censorship--the above blog comment was not deleted. The blog should be a forum to discuss issues, not personalize attacks.

Paul,

It is DISGRACEFUL that you are conducting Town Business OUTSIDE of Town Hall. NO Town Board business should be conducted at these outreach meetings. Outreach meetings are a good idea to do just that, outreach to the community. They are not the place for Town Wide business!!!!

Will this meeting be televised????

Lookie! I'm a good guy! I didn't delete this comment! See! I don't censor!

I just paid my school taxes and I am sick! What a joke- I would never send my children there. LOOK OUT- I HEAR rumblings of a hartsdale school district..signed the petiton last week.the process has started!!!!

Anonymous said...

a hartsdale school district?

hartsdale had one decades ago.

perhaps for those of us not in hartsdale, could you explain what the rumblings are all about?

or is this just further evidence that hartsdale keeps sinking further and further in the political black hole its in?

Anonymous said...

Mind your own P's & Q's Ardsley guy @10:38.

dear anon - i would be more concerned with the rumblings as well as the fate of the new hartsdale school district.

What is the Town Board going to do?
Let's not continue the charade that they are unaware of the problems. Maybe Fairview residents would want to ask.

Just sent to the Town Board.

"Attached is the forward from the Town Clerk's office -- the response to my FOIL request for the Library Punch List (WHAT REMAINS TO BE DONE).
As you can see after opening, (THE RETURNED FOIL REQUEST) Library Director Contrata says there is no such list. Without such a list, what is the basis for her statements that "this is on order", "that is going to be done" etc.?

How can it be that no one, the Town as owner or the Library as operator, has any idea of what work remains to be done on the Library expansion project. I would recommend that no further funds be approved (including change orders) for this project until some one can step forward and represent some accountability -- this especially references the Architect and the now disengaged Construction Manager. Just by signing purchase orders and signing off on work in no manner suggests that anyone is checking the work done or not done against the obligations as outlined in the awarded contracts. As for utilizing the consulting services of Mr. Regula, not only was he unsuited from the beginning, at this point whom would he talk to and his skill sets in this particular area do not justify his hourly rate.

Nevertheless, there are many items left undone and someone with some talent in this area needs to be brought on board.

Paul, what about Pete Federman or Vic Weinstein?"

And this is how your money is spent. Don't be fooled by the new Library; they have already spent well over $20 million and it is not finished. With $20 million, and an already existing shell (the former building) for half of the total space -- did taxpayers not expect to see some proof of the money spent? My continuing argument is that taxpayers could have gotten a lot more Library for the same dollars.

And, taxpayers have not yet seen the final bill.

Anonymous said...

hal - didnt you forget that the town board liaison to the library is village resident diana juettner?

juettner has been on the town board since 1991.

four more years of juettner is like four more years of bush.

juettner should resign immediately as her handling of the library has been a complete fiasco.

Hal, there is a punch list!!!! You are just not going to get it because it is very long and embarrassing.

Here we go! I wish someone would keep a detailed accounting of this BS. 8% cuts my arse.
Black History Month Swim? Why is the town paying for this? What the hellis going on here?

What is the Center for Human Options?

Anonymous said...

Forest for the trees department.

Transportation costs $2,975.

The Resolution just before discusses authorizing the visit at no cost to the Town.

Apparently the TDYCC staff accompanying the three day trip are donating their time, right? No comp time, no regular pay, no overtime?

But by the time that they voted for the first, the Town Board expects residents to forget the first -- at no cost to the Town.
Who, then, is paying for the bus?

And residents are incensed over HOW the Valhalla School District spent their funds...

Anonymous said...

And the CSEA still can't get a raise. Nice job Paul. You really care about us. Keep giving it to other people.

Speak Freely said...

Feel free to discuss this new TDYCC development at http://freegreenburgh.blogspot.com/

The Center for Human Options is a company with an office on Central Avenue in Hartsdale. It provides outpatient drug rehabilition, birth control and abortion counseling. This is part of Greenburgh's social services program that is offered to all town residents who need it, including residents of the villages. It is paid for, however, only by the generous taxpayers of unincorporated Greenburgh. And the reason the resolution is being voted on at a meeting held at the community center is to make sure that this information is confined only to those attending the meeting at TDYCC, and to no one else. That's open government in Greenburgh, for ya.

WHAT?! Isn't there a drug & alcohol rehabilitation next to Lois Bronze that we subsidize? Isn't there a Planned Parenthood on Tarrytown Rd in TOV? What?!
