GREENVILLE FIRE DEPT TO SEEK ANTENNA AT FIRE HOUSE---REVENUE TO FIRE DISTRICT RATHER THAN TO BUSINESS LANDLORDS

Representatives of the Greenville Fire Department (located in Edgemont) appeared before the Greenburgh Town Board. They are planning to seek permission (and a possible zoning change or variance) so they can place an antenna pole at the fire house. The pole could be rented to phone companies -to enhance service to Edgemont residents.
Everytime I drive on Ardsley Road my NEXTEL cell phone stops working. It's frustrating. Cell phone service in Edgemont is horrible.
Everytime a proposal is initiated to place a cell tower in a neighborhood there is opposition. Federal laws limit the ability of governments to say no to cell towers.
The benefit of this proposal -which is in its early stage- is that the rent and revenues will go to the fire district, not a landlord. If we have to have cell towers somewhere doesn't it make sense for local governments to get some revenue from it?

It's on Central Ave, so I doubt there'd be opposition. Plus it's true that cell service isn't great down there.

Have you ever traveled on the Hutch by exit 25. The gas station has a cell phone tower hidden in a fake pine tree . What are the chance that somekind of cover could be used to disguise the tower. Looks good and is useful.

shouldn't the revenue go to the town.

Yea, lets give all this money to the fire commissioners who are nothing but yes men! They will buy another fire truck that they dont need or cant afford (they asked the town for money last year after they bought it). Or make more positions that they dont need!

The cell companies will be renting space from the fire house which is independent of the town. PAUL FEINER

"Revenue to the Fire District..."

How much?

"Rather than to business landlords"

Fire Districts pay no taxes, landlords do.

But what is this Feiner post about? Doesn't the Town already have an independent Antenna Review Board?
Why is Mr. Feiner jumping in? Readers would be quick to slap him down when he trespasses onto School Board, Zoning and Planning Board territory. What makes this matter different?

Oh, Mr. Feiner is on his cell phone when he is driving. Tsk Tsk.

And, not everyone has a cell phone but everyone must view a cell tower. Scarsdale has lousy cell phone service too but they don't have Feiner:
"Everytime a proposal is initiated to place a cell tower in a neighborhood there is opposition".
Interesting too that most of the opposition comes from residents who have cellphones.

Maybe the Greenville Fire Department would be happier if it too were getting $100,000 from WESTHELP like the Fairview Fire District.
Alternatively, stop the $100,000 to the Fairview Fire District and help them with a cell tower.

GREAT IDEA////////

IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT SOMEONE THOUGHT OF BRINGING IN SOME REVENUE TO HELP EDGEMONT.

WHOMEVER CAME UP WITH THIS PROPOSAL SHOULD BE THANKED BY THE RESIDENTS.
yES THIS WILL LOWER OUR FIRE TAX .
WE WILL ACCEPT ALL THE HELP THAT WE CAN GET.

FIRE COMMISSIONERS THANK YOU.

Hal the fire house pays no taxes but the residents do. This will be a great help to all of us.

Please keep your thoughts to yourself on this one.

Don't you think that we too need some sort of a tax break?

Dear bubbling over with enthusiasm,

How much revenue?

Anonymous said...

And how much to build the tower.

This may be a good idea, but again Mr. Feiner is involving himself not related to town management.

antennas were installed on the building i live in. They caused the roof to leak causing a big project. Make sure the owner of the building is protected from the water damage after it start to leak around the antenna

I believe that a cell provider will negotiate rent erect the tower and pay the costs to do so. Once erected, cell provider #1 sub leases some of thier tower space to cell provider #2 and #3. #'s 2 & 3 pay rent to the landlord and the the lessor( cell provider #1) but the landlords portion is usually much less than cell provider #1 pays as a their rent is split between #1 & the landlord.

In terms of dollar amounts? Could be 1-3 thousand a month in income depending on negotiations and how need the tower is in the area.

At least Greenville Dept. is looking at a way to save money for the residents not like Fairview .
Fairview took an illegal handout by Feiner from Westhelp.

Good job Greenville lets hope this proposal goes thru with no problems.

If you watched the meeting as I did the commissioners of Greenville FD wanted to present to town board then they will have to file a building application as they STATED and the atenna board will review. So what is the beef with Feiner. More BS from physco Hal

This is the way to go.

Good planning to help with the fire tax.
Wish you the best but watch out for Sheehan

Dear disturbed,

The beef with Feiner is that when he posts (right, it is his blog) one expects that he would do more than just rush to pass on information while at the same time putting forth his unreasoned viewpoint.

He is for the cable tower which by itself is not necessarily a bad thing.

However, the tower is the business of the Fire District (independent) and the Greenburgh Boards that take the matter under their wings are also (independent).

What is irksome is that he is the Town Supervisor and he is using this blog as another way to speak before these entities; not as a citizen but as the Supervisor.

And just like he handles Town business, he does no more than shoot from the hip. Here the story is that this is a clever way to reduce taxes yet he puts this out with no knowledge that this is true.

If the income is as one poster writes around $36,000 a year or less, this is not such a big deal, barely making a dent in the fire district budget.
And just because it is on Central Avenue does not mean that it is a project that will not elicit concern from those residents that live nearby.

The real point is that this is another issue far off in time and oen which must travel considerably before the Town Board will see it.

Meanwhile there are immediate problems facing the Town Board on issues which they have direct control over and while these are still unresolved, perhaps the Supervisor would do well to play being the problem solver over them.

Town government is not a restaurant where you can keep ordering even though you haven't eaten what's on the plate in front of you. Mr. Feiner's approach is to not only let the food in front of him get cold but also to keep looking at what those around him are ordering too.

Since the taxpayers get the check, this "night and day and night and day and night and day... gets very expensive.

Just for my curiousity, does anyone know the location of the nearest cell tower?

And try the word psycho for a change.

280 Dobbs Ferry Rd and 333 Old Tarrytown Rd. next to Town Hall, on the hill. They are disguised as really big Flag poles. They blend into the community very nice

I was thinking more of nearest as on Central Park Avenue.

Hal maybe it is the one by old Manieros.
