RESPONSE FROM COMMISSIONER OF TDYCC IN RESPONSE TO INACCURATE BLOG COMMENTS ABOUT FAST TEAM

STATEMENT FROM BILL CARTER, COMMISSIONER OF THE THEODORE YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER IN RESPONSE TO INACCURATE BLOG COMMENTS ABOUT FAST TEAM TRIP TO DC

The FAST swim team generated $24,376.12 in revenue for the year 2008-09. The coachs’ salaries for the team is $12,000. The cost for the bus is $2,975.00. Therefore, the FAST swim team generated a total of $9,201 in revenue for the year. The parents signed their kids up for the program expecting the team would attend the swim meet in Washington. This was factored into the fee when the parents paid. As you can see, the team has generated a significant amount of revenue over costs of operation of the team and the trip. Please be advised that the FAST swim team is more than paying for itself and generating a significant amount of revenue.

*SCREAMS*

What kind of crazy math is this??????

I know that every family pays their free to TDYCC for team membership. I know that every family pays their dues to the teams Parents Association.

I know that those funds pay not only for the coaches salaries but they pay for all associated costs for meets, scheduling, and any other elated costs to the team except for that bus.

The team DOES NOT generate 9,201 for TDYCC. Who pays the life guards? Team shirts, pool time……

What is this new math that crops up here and at meetings?

This is typical Xposure math. “Less than last years program, only costs 172K, blah, blah”

Either we have the stupidest people running every department in this town or they are the worst liars on the face of the earth.

whoops. "pays their FEE"

Michael Phelps did the math, after he finished his extra-curriculars.

While it is true that the families signed up expecting to participate in this meet and it was understood that thier dues covered all costs related to attending this meet
EXCEPT TRANSPORTATION.

Every, single year the team request the bus fees. Every single year the town has granted their requests. This is WRONG!

The bus is not necessary. It's "fun". Go and check out how many people are driving. Go find out why they can't car pool.

I sick to death of the bold face lies throw around here. What's Carters best attribute? His ability to BS?

The FAST Swim Teams children pay to use the TDYCC Pool.

Where is the $20,000 owed the Town from Silver Streaks private rental? She (Gay Silverman) made two payments ($3000) and that's been it! She owes 23,400.

Let's collect that money first before we criticize a team that has 90 members. Over ninety children are off the streets growing up with structure, exercising and developing character.

In 2007-2008 the FAST Team generated over $24,000 in program fees. The fees for the DC trip are paid for by the Parents-hotel, food, coach's rooms, travel etc... The only thing the Town pays for is the bus which is included in the fee paid by parents.
The Town pays for the football and the basketball teams. They are all town sponsored programs.
NOT The Silver Streaks - a private rental that wants to put up advertisement for their team on town property. Silver Streaks swimmers pay Gay Silverman $1,795 per swimmer and she has yet to pay her bill.
Get real and stop the pork barrel politics Paul on the Town residents and make the private rentals pay. Residents of the Town deserve this.............

The only thing the Town pays for is the bus which is included in the fee paid by parents.

According to the Greenburgh Guide to programs and Services, The FAST swim fee states $240 and then an additional $55 check payable to The Town of Greenburgh.

Is this this money for the bus? Is so, why is this handled this way. what is this all about. More importantly, how is it the bloggers know more about expenditures, revenues, fess.....than those in charge.

Carter does not sound like he knows how to handle a 4 million dollar budget. No how. No way.

Bah. "fees"

show us the MONEY

WHY IN THE HELL IS THE COMMUNITY CENTER PUTTING UP A BULLETIN BOARD FOR A PRIVATE SWIM TEAM -

WHY DOES SILVER STREAKS GET SPECIAL TREATMENT WHEN THEY HAVE NOT PAID THEIR MONEY ??????????????????????

NO BULLETING BOARD - JUST PAY YOUR MONEY

all of this proves that the tdycc should be closed or transferred to a not for profit Y or possibly be put under the wing of the county department of recreation.

carter has no business running a 4 million dollar operation

What is truly sad about this is that there is no report from the Town Comptroller. Once again a unit of the Town issues its own numbers, which may or may not be correct, but lacks the professional oversight of the Town Comptroller.

Welcome to Greenburgh.

Dear Mr. Carter,
(Commissioner)

When responding publicly to correct inaccurate comments it is always the smart thing to do, checking your own math.

Last fall at budget time, Ms. Whitehead had a similar problem when operating a calculator.

By next year's budget, the public will be throughly versed in the math of the TDYCC.

But right now, be advised that when doing an income/expense proforma, there are more expenses against revenues than just the coachs' salaries and the cost of the bus. Revenue is not the whole story; there would be no revenue without, first, a swimming pool. And I suspect that given five minutes, the Comptroller can show you that the program is losing money.

It is easy to see how you got the job; you talk the Feiner/Brown jive.

"when doing an income/expense proforma"

Such an embarrassing response from the commissioner. This is pretty basic stuff that any manager should know. Hopefully at least three members of the town council know high-school level accounting well enough to not approve this request.

Why would we expect Cater to say or know anything different then what the supervisor knows, or pretends to know, about simple accounting.

I seen and heard too many answers to questions answered in this Cateresque fashion. "It's a revenue generator! We make money from this program! Grant money pays for the costs involved!"

Simple words such as gross profit, net profit, overhead, operating costs.......are not only not part of the vocabulary, they are words not understood.

I don't know what's worse. Knowing that our managers are this incompetent or that they think we are dumber than a pile of rocks.

Did you know that I generate 50K per year in personal revenue? It costs me 5 K per year for food. I amazingly turn a 45K profit for myself each year! Aren't I amazing?

Signed, Naked, homeless, toothless.

Pardon "Carter"

The pool that everyone swims in doesn't cost anything to maintain so you don't have to figure in the employees that are cleaning the pool. You also don't need to factor in the chemicals that are used in the pool because that doesn't count. Oh and forget about the electricity that it takes to run the pumps for the pool. Because I am sure all of this was factored into the commissioners calculations.

Anonymous said...

Let's not forget the potential revenues lost because when the FAST team has pool time it prevents other possible higher income generating aquatic programs, from being formed.

On the other hand, when FAST uses the pool it prevents the other non-paying Silver Streaks from using it more often therefore causing TDYCC to lose less revenue.

Actually, now that I look at the above scenario I think it’s safe to say that when Silver Streaks are not on TDYCC premises, TDYCC has made substantial budget cuts.

I'm really getting the hang on this new math.

The fact that Paul had Carter respond demonstrates that Paul is on the run on this issue. Keep up the good work everyone. This should be story in the Jounal News. Unfortunately, the Journal News ALWAYS supports Paul because he feeds them stories.

how would you there's a party going on and you're not invited

so here we have "response from commissioner of tdycc in response to inaccurate blog comments about fast team"...

Anyone remember Carter's Little Liar Pills?

They're now available in the jumbo size.

The journal news should be boycotted.
Let's not have the paper delivered or purchased until the truth is printed about what illegal things have been going on in this town.

We will not get justice in this town until Feiner gets out of the picture.
He has the journal news writter in his hip pocket this too has got to go.
Have you noticed all the articles are written favoring the town board.
This newspaper knows how the public feels but the articles never are written to the fullest .
The writter of the government affairs here in Greenburgh doesn't need to attend the meetings because whatever is written is written to please the decisions of the board and not the people.

There is the Scarsdale Inquirer that covers the Greenburgh government news one hundred percent. It is available on Fridays only but it will tell you the truth of the goings on.
This writter is on the ball and their format of comments is terrific.

STOP THE PURCHASE OF THE JOURNAL NEWS AND YOU WILL SEE HOW THE TRUTH WILL BE TOLD.

No matter what the center wants Paul will grant it to them.
Yes the state and federal governments should be called in to see why this happens and if it is legal for this part of town to receive everything free while the other parts receive nadda.

we need someone who cares for the whole town and not just Fairview.
Get Feiner,Sheehan and Juettner out now before we all loose our homes and rights to live as human beings here in Greenburgh.

The fact of the matter is that the TDYCenter is open and available to all people residing in Greenburgh. If you choose not to make use of the available activities and services, so be it. What is all the meaness directed towards the Fairview community? The use of the Center is not limited to the Fairview communnity. Just as with Parks and Recreation, the Center is available to all Greenburgh residents. If you take the time to visit, there is racial, cultural and economic diversity.

I couldn't agree more. People complain about the different prices but they won't send their children to the TDYCC camp and take advantage of the discount. Why not??? I think we all know why.
