AMAZING AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FEATURED TOMORROW

The town of Greenburgh recently recently a $167,550 grant from the Lanza Family Foundation so we can provide students with a state of the art after school program that is second to none. Check the web site:
http://www.xposureschools.com/greenburgh/ to learn more about this incredible opportunity and program. This program (which has been featured on major NY TV stations) is coming to Greenburgh and will provide students with opportunities for advancement in the fields of science and technology. It’s a world class program.
Registration will start soon. Xposure is also planning to conduct interviews so they can hire the best teachers, assistant teachers and youth aides. They are also looking for volunteers.
Because of the importance of this program – the Town Board will have a special presentation for the public tomorrow –Thursday, September 4th at 7:30 PM at Greenburgh Town Hall. Please attend the meeting or watch the meeting on public access TV. Town Board meetings are also streamed live on the internet: www.greenburghny.com.
The program will be run at the Theodore Young Community Center.

The Xposure Foundation Inc. Science, Technology, Finance and Employment Institute for Youth exists to expose children and adolescents in economically disadvantaged areas to the worlds of Science, Technology, Finance, Work Ethic, Nutrition, Community Service, and stronger Parent/Child Relationships/Partnerships.

sounds perfect for greenburgh - teetering on bankruptcy

Good grief. Enough already.
How much money are we paying to match these Lanza funds?

What are you doing for the middle class children of Greenburgh? Huh?
Their parents are killing themselves trying to keep up. YOU DO NOTHING FOR THESE FAMILIES! NOTHING!

Thanks to Anonymous at 6:45!

Is the #80 best city/town in the
United States home to economically disadvantaged areas? Are our children and adolescents not exposed to the worlds of Science, technology, Finance, Work Ethic, Nutrition, Community Service, and stronger Parent/Child Relationships/Partnerships?

And we have school systems, a Theodore Young Community Center, a Lois Bronz center, and a fabulous Library -- all of which apparently don't count for very much

That is the "amazing" part.

The Lanza Foundation needs to rethink their mission.

Extra programs can be nice, but what about baseline services expectations - police (fine), sanitation (okay) and STREET CLEANING (yikes). These are the areas that should be of primary focus for a township and its supervisor before any other optional services.

hey - when did a missing street sign ever cast a vote?

better to use children as props - greenburgh isnt so different from pailnville after all.

meanwhile the great sucking sound of taxes for less and less grinds on.

Cutting essential services and refocusing public awareness on frills isn't a better idea - its a Feiner one.

Are white children included in this program or is it only the Fairview children.
Boy the center is dividing this town in two ,the black and the white.
Thanks Feiner you're doing a fine job in taking out tax dollars to keep a center opened for your chosen few.

White kids? Does anyone think that Feiner gives a hoot about the white kids?

Greenburgh is one hot mess of a racist town & Feiner is to blame. Middle class whites are discriminated against here over & over again.

For whatever the reason Feiner perpetuates this (votes?) he can no longer hide behind his "wow lookie at me! I'm such a do-gooder for the disadvantage kids of Greenburgh! " BS any longer.

It's wrong. Morally wrong.

It's a shame that white children cannot get the same services that are received in Fairview.
Thos present at the work session were only fighting for their own.
Paul this town is getting more and more divided because of your throwing aside our children.
Come election time I do hope that Fairview will carry you to be a winner.
I've voted for you in the past but this time arround it will be different.
I'm sure others will follow because we have had your favoritism up the kazoo.

Paul takes care of 2 groups, the villagers who pay for nothing, and fairview who get whatever they want. He will continue riding them to another victory. Our only hope is the courts.

Hey Paul ,the two programs that were shown at town hall tonight were a disgrace.
Not one white face was in either one or the other.
Are you trying to shove these programs down our throat just to help the Fairview children.
Not one white teacher. What the hell is happening with your brain.
Are we only good to shell out money to make these programs exist in Fairview
It's a dam shame that we the white residents of Greenburgh can't and will not get the same treatment as Fairview.
Paul you too have got to go.
Three of you will be voted out the next time arround.

This after school program is open to anyone who lives in town. One can be black, white, asian, hispanic, etc... to participate.

Dear 12:48:

Let me enlighten you:

I have a friend that lives in a mixed town yet his neighborhood is all white. The people who live there never sell their homes to blacks, Hispanics or Asians. These folks live in homes outside of this small neighborhood yet “anyone can live within it” Why? Because they know they are not welcome & unwanted. The town keeps these streets clean, trees are trimmed, garbage free because these people demand that the town take care of them. Outside of this neighborhood, not so much.

THIS IS WRONG! RACIST & UNLAWFULL.

Here in Greenburgh we have schools (GC) a large community center with special camps , after-school programs, daycare, affordable housing………. Yes, ANYONE can take advantage of these services! Why don’t the white people in Greenburgh use these services? Because they are unwelcome and unwanted and almost every program, school curriculum, and event is built around appealing to the needs and wants of black community in Greenburgh. They demand it.

This is just as wrong as the scenario above. Racist, unlawful, discriminatory yet we continue to fund this type of horrendous behavior.

Well that's Paul Feiner's way of getting back a white folk.
He meets all the demands put forth by the black community and the hell with us.
Well I'm sure that you should look for employment elsewhere before the next election.
I don't think the black community alone can put you back in office.

There's a function at the junction.

Last night Francis Sheehan, probably because he thought that there might still be a glimmer of a hope for holding public comment, did his part to waste more precious minutes at the beginning of the Town Board meeting. Note that "business" did not commence until 9:00 (meetings are supposed to start at 7:30 to end by 11:00) and with two controversial public hearings scheduled, no real Town Board meeting since the beginning of July, no 5 minute public comment since early April and lots of problems (don't be misled that just because the Supervisor doesn't post these topics on his blog that there aren't any issues in Greenburgh), it is easy enough to understand why Mr. Sheehan thought it necessary to identify by name all the school district administrators and school board members that had been invited to attend. Because not only would this use up meeting minutes and give him some more face time, he probably wanted to publicly humiliate them in a manner in which they would have no opportunity to respond.

In short, what this is about is using the this vendor's presentation to try and "show up" those who administer education to Greenburgh's young. Thus, placidly sitting there for the promotion's 40 minute length, the administrators had no opportunity to criticize the Xposure methodology, cost, or whether it duplicates existing programs within the schools. That the schools DO provide much of the same content was not noted, certainly not by those selling the program ($3000 per student) and no opportunity for the school's administation to defend their own programs.

So, they were invited to be embarrassed. Now, one could argue that the Town government should not be involved in the education process but that would be "mean spirited" because this is an "after school" program and thus not something that would be otherwise enjoined. And it's free because of the generosity of the Lanza's who don't seem to really understand how their foundation's assets are being raided. Earlier this year they were sold a bill of goods by the Library that they didn't have enough money to operate the cybermobile or open on Sundays. Of course that turned out to be a lie; confirmed as such by the Trustees' recent vote to transfer about $119,000 of 2008 operating funds to the purchase of capital equipment for the new Library (needed because the project, always, is still on budget).

Yes, I think the Lanzas got taken again. It is a shame, too, because they are very generous.
Even were I to believe this program was worthy (which I do not), I don't think that beyond the fun and games approach that there is much that Greenburgh children are lacking (cetainly not from spending per pupil) or that Greenburgh kids are from "an economically disadvantaged area".
What this really is when the disguise is removed is providing after school daycare at $3000+ (get parents involved) per head.

One might ask for more details regarding the fabulous opportunity for children to sell logo embossed Xposure Foundation knick knacks.
Then see how it compares to other pyramid sales organizations.

Finally, I am not taken in by the serial not-for-profit nomenclature.
This is just another business scheme which eliminates profits by paying generous salaries.

I add that I have a friend (former teacher) who hustled for a similar enterprise "Hands-on-Science" which sold its wares through the NYC school system and a wife (former) who runs a non-profit which brings authors into NYC schools. There are hundreds of such programs in existence, all scurrying around, vying for publicity and calling on the various foundations for their life support. Don't be fooled into thinking that Xposure is unique and don't get fooled by the video scrapbooks of "involved" kids.

However, this post was not to discuss the merits or absence thereof of this program. It was merely to remind readers that this is another one of the Town Board's confections to use up time at the Town Board meeting so that the Public will not have an opportunity to discuss relevant issues.

And, of course, last night had 15 minutes of an intern telling us what a good time she had this summer in the Town's legal department; hopefully she won't remember anything and penalize her chances of getting into a good law school.

While what Town Board meeting would be complete without Police Promotions? Two promotions, witnessed by the Chief and a Captain and, of course, mandatory photo ops, afterward. I wonder if anyone earned any overtime for their appearances. We'll see...

I was at the meeting last night, and I was outraged. Number one: this program will fail! The Center is not even in favor of it, who will pay for it next year?

Will the "new" commissioner of the CC be in charge of the program??
This program is a joke...the "founder" should sell used cars.. maybe the Town Board could buy a new fleet.

Second: Mr. Feiner, think before you speak! Your comment after the 40 minute Xposure demonstration (by the way, this learning tool had numerous misspelled words...what a joke)getting back to your comment: " maybe a kid from greenburgh can be an obama ?? what did you mean by that? If you were pitching this in edgemont or your neck of the woods, would you have used a different person. You are an idiot.

My 14 year old child could make that program we sat thru last night on his computer. Why does this BS program cost so much...I wonder what the "CEO" drives !!!! I saw him pull out of the lot !!! Not for profit my rear end.

And my last point, on this divided Town. Woodlands HS sings the "black" national anthem before basketball games. Last night you made your residents sit trough a video (produced very well) but did any of you idiots listen to the words in that song? Watch it on the internet and listen to the words. I dont live in fairview. Nor should I be subjected to a video at a town board meeting that says that the Town is a ghetto, or a video that says girls dont have to be "Hoes".

By any chance did you see the majority of the rear of the room exit. It was sickening!!!

This Town is a joke, we are a laughing stock in the County and the State.

P.S. Judy, we are tired of you thanking everyone, you are the Town Clerk....just do your job!!

Why is the Town in the education business anyway? Isn't that the responsibility of the local school
districts? Didn't the Town learn its lesson with the Westhelp/Valhalla debacle?

Paul

This is for the schools not TDYCC. Let the schools have the program, as it is right now they have no after school programs, this would be good for the younger kids.

Listen to the replay of the Town Board work session on this -- what a joke. Its a program to employ adults. Plain and simple thats what they want.

Anonymous said...

We have enough people teaching in the after school program. WHY are you spending more money even if it is a grant.
Boy is the town of Greenburgh taking this Lanza Foundation over a barrel.

Anonymous said...

I hope this blog about the anthem at games is just a rumor because if this is true it is a disgrace to our community and it is not what we should be teaching our children.

Dear 1:17,
Someone should inquire about this with the GC BOE. I would recommend asking to speak with someone other than Ms. Carey, if you're white...and you're not in the mood for a smack down.

ONCE AGAIN I ASK THE QUESTION...
